Eh, other than the Braves, they're really the only exciting team to watch in the NL East.

If Morgan's suspension gets Maxwell more major league at bats then it's a positive for the team.

I'm not sure if you have any metrics to measure excitement, but I would disagree with that statement. A game in Colorado last night really put me to sleep.

So who does everyone got winning this thing. I am really hoping the Twins can get the Yankee monkey off there back. Don't see that happening without Morneau and the way there pitching has tanked the last couple weeks. Will be interesting to watch either way.

Roy Halladay wins, no matter what.

Brooks Conrad, thank you for that walk-off grand slam in May but you can now go fuck your mother and then hang yourself like the old Brooks in Shawshank.

No, that would mean someone is trying to prevent him from doing it. Cox also LaRussa'd himself into that mess with all the switching around, too.

Right you are. haha. Best thing would be for him to just sit on the bench. Between the series with the Phils, and now...damn.

As if missing Prado wasn't felt enough, all this happens. I just hope Hinske's in RF instead of Heyward tomorrow.

In terms of spirit, maybe, but they've been coming back all year. On the field they've just been outhit, got one (important) call against them and made their own mistakes. If the Rays can knot their series up, these guys can, too.

True. Is Prado out for the year? I forgot he was even injured, to be honest. Too worried with my own favorite teams' injuries I guess.

Bias aside, but I agree. There isn't a top three in the league, playoffs or not that competes with Halladay, Hamels and Oswalt. I still wish they would start Valdez over Rollins. He just doesn't look comfortable enough out there to be playing in the playoffs.

As much as I hate the Giants I think they can go toe to toe with the Phils with Lincecum, Cain and Sanchez. Bumgarner aint to shabby either. I still think the Phillies will take the NL but if the Giants make it to the LCS they wont just roll over.

Sabathia, Pettite and Hughes seem to be doing allright.

I'd take the Phils three over those three, especially because Hughes is really inexperienced in this roll in the playoffs. They are a good top 3, but if you want to look at the best top 3 in the playoffs and possibly in baseball, it has to be in either San Fran or Philly.

Thats debateable. In that sense although we all know how good doc is it is still his first playoff experience, all be it he threw a no hitter in his first game who knows how he will do in the world series. Cole hamels was far from great this season and oswalt missed a lot of games i believe he only started 15 or so. Pettite is the most winning pitcher in post season history , CC had a cy young season and won the series last year , and then on top of that hughes got a lot of much needed experience, Then throw in the set up men of joba , aj ( had a bad season but out of the pen he will be valuable) , kerry wood , then mo. I think i will take the yankees

CC won the series last year. That means nothing. Take Cole Hamels in 09 for example. Won the series, and MVP, and had a subpar 09. Oswalt was 8-1 with like a 1.75 ERA with the Phillies. His only loss was the first game, which the Phillies sucked in. The Yanks bullpen might take the Phillies, but no one is competing with the Phillies top 3. Being the winningest pitcher in postseason history doesn't mean anything to Doc. He never had his chance to pitch in the postseason. Who's to say he wouldn't be the winningest?

The Reds won the triple crown in team standings this year. Highest team batting average, most home runs and RBI's. The Phillies just held them to 11 hits and a .124 BA in three games...

.113* BA.

As for saying Doc is inexperienced, it's not the same as Hughes. Doc is a cy young winning, potential HoF pitcher. While he may not have pitched in the hottest spotlight yet, he is a flat out thoroughbred. Hughes is a new comer and still has a lot to learn about dealing with everything, not only off the field, but from pitch to pitch. Doc is the kind of guy who is completely emotionless. When he's on the mound, he is more a machine than man. I don't think the two are comparable.

Hamels has won a WS, was a CS and WS MVP, and has been an assassin since mid-April. Oswalt, while having one bad start, has done it all but win one and has an unbelievable record from August on.

I'd wager that rotation before any other right now, unless St. Louis got another pitcher.

I'll give you Pettitte just because he dominates every and any Game 2.

Cole Hamels was both the NLCS and WS MVP in '08, but I guess that's moot because CC had a quasi Cy Young season this year and won the WS last year, alright. Hamels started 33 games with a 3.06 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and a 3.46:1 BB to K ratio. Oswalt started 32 games with a 2.76 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 3.51 BB:K ratio. I would take both of those guys over CC, not even accounting for the way they played over the past month plus. Now you're left with Halladay vs. Hughes, you may take that argument.

With SP like the Phillies have gotten, the occasional Romero and Contreras and Durbin with Madson and Lidge will more than suffice.

EDIT: maybe mik3 will come in at some point and drop some knowledge on us.
