Stay Classy Patrick Kane

Recommended Posts

Who said anything about getting sick? Looks like the only thing he was sick of was Versteeg's singing! As for his behavior, isn't really shocking, I mean what did you expect a 21 year old with his history would do after winning the cup?

Professional athlete or not, he's 21. Are you guys forgetting college, I see that 5 nights out of the week, (and resemble it from time to time too.) ;) The main point is that he may have goofed around a little, but he didn't do anything really stupid, he didn't chuck a champagne bottle in the crowd or say something horrible. Maybe it's just me but I get the feeling Kane would still be just as much as a ham and a "showman" if he was stone sober. And it flew under the radar but Jiri Hudler was doing pretty close to the exact same thing at the '08 parade, dancing on top of a moving Chevy Avalanche and drinking several beers.

Most folks in this thread think Kane did nothing wrong. Agreed!

My simple point, based off other videos and interviews I have seen of him, he comes of as a d-bag sober and drunk.

That's OK too. His choice.

What did he do wrong... what would you do if you just won the Stanley Cup?

It's a bit more understandable if he was that drunk on the night of the Stanley Cup win, but the parade is is in front of millions. My guess is the kid probably has had other episodes of drinking more than he should, so someone on the team should have pulled him aside and said, "Hey, Kaner, I know you can be a lot of fun when you're out drinking, but there will be families and children out there today. Just try to stay in control today and we'll go out partying afterward."

Exactly! Last time I checked Sharp, Versteeg, Toews, Keith and the rest are pretty young guys and won the cup too. They looked like they had a pretty damn good time and didnt come across as being tools.

I have no problem with that at all. Reminds me of the Canadian women after they won the gold and took to the ice with drinks and cigars. He's of age, can drink legally, and is riding the highest wave of his life. I might celebrate differently, but to each his own.

That statement about keeping his shirt on and loving cabbies was pretty good. Not as good as Pronger's green jacket joke, but good.

Don't let sour grapes lead you down the path towards prohibition, burkas, the PMRC, and Saudi style morality police.

My little brother was at the parade and has pics of Toews shot-gunning a beer, the AHL-call ups guzzling champagne, and pretty much everyone else getting shit faced. If you watched the the part of the vid where Kane chugged a bottle of bubbly - that's exactly where lil bro was.

Hockey players (and LAX players) know how to party. It's as if it is some sort of sacred birth right.

Here's how I look at it; You've just scored the OT cup clinching goal, the biggest goal in franchise history, and you're surrounded by 2 million+ celebrating your team's victory. Since that goal, you've been mostly surrounded by drunken Canadians that spilled blood beside you...now you're spilling beer out of the most useless but most glorious piece of silverware in human history. You have two choices;

Live up every moment w/o any regrets as you may not have another experience like this.

or

Act like it is no big deal as you worry about what people might think of you.

Kane made the right choice: it was a party for his team and he partied w/his team. No shame in that or his mullet. Win as a team, lose as a team, get drunk as a team...this is usually standard procedure in hockey culture.

Kane might have still been drunk from the night before, just keep the party rolling. That's what happens when just about the entire team is so young. The organization shouldn't have let them have the booze during the parade/celebration, but they don't have as much experience with victory parades as a team like Detroit. Mistakes were made, Kane proved he shouldn't be considered a role model (again) but nobody was hurt and it seems like everyone involved had a good time. Hopefully lessons were learned and they behave better at the parade next year.

I'm not too fond of Kane, he's always seemed like a prick. I really only support him during the Olympics... but I see nothing wrong with what he did. It's a parade, everyone drinks at a parade. If he was publicly drinking while underage it would be a different story.

I believe Toews dropped a "f'ing right on" (or something like that) on live TV after Olympic Gold.

You didn't see Crosby, Staal, Talbot, Fleury etc. acting like dumbasses in the Pens parade either. I'm sure the night of Gm7 they all partied pretty hard or some of them stayed sober so they can remember winning it. But you didn't see the booze get dumped out til Geno/Sid poured some bubbly for their parents.

I feel like that might be a team culture type of thing. I wouldn't consider the Pens a "young" team when they won last year anyway, but some teams have different philosophies on how to conduct themselves. One of the biggest advantages IMO was how loose the Hawks were during the playoffs, even in pivotal moments. They interviewed John Madden (the hockey player, not the football commentator) after the game and he said the way the younger guys acted was a huge boost to him. The way some guys acted at the Hawks parade is just another manifestation of what made them so successful.

I don't see anything wrong in the video but he's still a world class malaka.

Trying to keep up with you "younger" lads. Malaka is like tool ... no?

Here is the deal with me. Again, yes very normal and I acted like a "malaka" more than once in my day when I was drunk. Difference was I was with my buddies and 2 million people were not watching me with cameras.

OK. It sounds like Toews had his moments too. What can I tell you I just dont like what I have seen of Kane outside of this event.

This thread is a joke lol. Some people need to get off their pedestal. Whose posting on message boards and who won the Stanley cup? If Kane was at the point where he can't stand, throwing up, whatever, then yea sure people have a right to complain. The kid is 21 and just reached the possible pinnacle of his life outside of marriage/kids/Olympic gold and had a whole city out in the streets to see him and his team. As long as anyone is doing anything, someone will find something to complain about.

I'm very curious -- how many of you posting negative comments actually watched the parade and rally first?

I watched TV the whole time it was on. I saw Kane doing a lot of things besides the clips in that video. Mostly what I saw him doing was hoisting the cup for fans along the parade route. I saw him drink a bit of beer and champagne, but did not see him hang onto a bottle or can afterward. The only beverage I saw him hang on to for more than a few seconds was a bottle of water he carried around at the rally.

Lots of the kids passed around some of the champagne bottles. Kane spent almost all his time raising the cup, talking to the fans along the route, taking pictures, etc. He was very friendly, and did not appear to do or say anything particularly objectionable or wild. They all showed their heartfelt appreciation to the fans. These kids were partying, which is no surprise -- so were a lot of fans -- and probably hadn't slept much since the game. Let 'em have a good time, after busting their asses to get the Cup.

I was at the parade front row, Kane was absolutely hammered really made a fool of himself not that I see anything wrong with it but, seriously at least get it together for an hour or 2 then go back out and party.

Thursday after they won they had video of Seabrook and some of the others at a bar in the morning on the news and Seabrook couldn't even talk, he threw up before getting on the bus at the parade and was standing on the railing the whole time.

Met John Madden at the local University Of Wisconsin bar outside of the city after the parade and all I can say is, that man is in a league of his own and there was no chance I could keep up drinking with him. Real down to earth guy, my buddy was working the door and when he walk in and said "I'll let you in as long as you keep your shirt on and don't bring any overweight canadian girls around."

Kane was drinking, yeah, but "made a fool of himself"? Did he do anything other than maybe drinking too much? I didn't see it, and I would think that the video would be out there if he did. He was on the bus with Rocky, and McDonough, and I haven't seen or heard anything about them taking issue with his behavior. I'd be interested in knowing if they did.

I can't claim he was the most mature individual out there, but it's known and accepted that athletes drink and party on winning championships, and he was the youngest one there.

BTW, where were you? Along the route, or at Wacker and Michigan?

This thread has got me wondering what stories/pictures/video may surface, regarding these guys partying. So far, haven't heard of any DWIs, accidents, fights, etc., so it's all pretty tame, IMO.
