Bob Probert Dead at 45

Recommended Posts

OPP has now confirmed per TSN that former NHL enforcer Bob Probert is dead at 45.

Very sad, I hope it didn't have anything to do with his former issues, although they likely played a part

terrible news. every time I saw him on tv you could tell in his eyes he was still fighting his inner demons, hopefully tgey didn't get the better of him. what a legend.

This is Probert's ultimate fight. Pat Dapuzzo has told me that multiple times during this fight both players told him to step away, that they weren't done fighting yet. Starts at center ice and ends up at the goal line.

Don't recall seeing that one before, great fight.

You'll never see another season like this in the NHL

I criticize Mitch Albom a lot for mailing it in most of the time, but this is brilliant.

Thanks for posting the link to this. It is absolutely a wonderful piece. Lived in Michigan from 91-94 and saw a lot of Wings games. What a fun guy he was to watch! Such a shame he is gone too soon!!!

The Probert-McSorley fight was my first NHL game.

I'll never forget it... it went on FOREVER.

The Joe was going nuts.

I'm pretty bummed out about Probie dying.

I keep reading all these stories about what a fantastic guy he was, despite all of his troubles.

It's too bad.

Sad, sad news.

I liked the Albom article, always a shame when someone dies so young - you've got to feel for his kids. I also hope that it wasn't his demons that caused the tragedy.

One of my first experiences that brought attention to his name was NHLPA Hockey 93 on the super nintendo! I grew up on the coast in California so there really was no hockey exposure for us. I remember beating the living shit out of everyone with Probie in that game and just like that I was a fan for life. I always loved it when I got a chance to watch a Wings game on a Tuesday or Friday on ESPN. The man was a beast and due to me always being a big kid one of the guys I could look up to. I hope he truly gets to Rest In PEACE. He gave us a good show, he deserves it.

that was the best! around that time, i was a 6 year old kid living in Manhattan. Domi was our guy, we was an entertainer and the best show he ever put on was when he teamed up with Probert to put on some mayhem. Domi vs Probert bouts will always be some of my most favorite memories as a kid. and although Probert was the "bad guy" to me, ive always had and always will have the utmost respect for that man and everything he did for the sport

They should make Domi, probert, mcsorely, shultz, williams and o'rielly unlockable characters on NHL '12!!
