i normally lace my laces on the skates inside-outside. Any of you guys who normally do the same lacing going to try the MLX suggestion of ouside-inside lacing?

I'm wondering if i should do this during the baking process or keep it to the way I normally have it.

@ HattrickSwayze - thx for the pics. Did you find that your heel moved back when you heated the skate? I only ask because according to the MLX size chart I am a size 8, but when I initally placed my foot in, it felt I would have troubles in the length department...

I did outside in lacing. The laces were really long so I changed to shorter waxed laces. I went inside out with those because getting them on and off would have taken forever. They did just fine with the new laces.

Cranking down the laces made the boots too stiff for my taste. I leave the top couple of eyelets pretty loose.

Make sure you check the screws every time you skate until they no longer loosen up. I ended up using locktite.

My skates are NOT wide enough. They feel good everywhere else though. Very good heel lock too, great moldabilty, but not wide enough. I emailed asking for advice. Ill see what they say!

I've noticed that the tendon guard on my right skate, the two upper screws won't fasten in properly. Also the adhesive glue used on the back portion of the tendon guard has finally cooled down. It seems it peels fairly easily when warm :S

I got a response for MLX. He asked me to trace my feet and they would make extra wide shell skates for me! He said production time would be two weeks and they would take the old skates back of course!

I'm very impressed, and hopefully the new skates will fit me perfectly.

Sounds like these guys have some amazing customer service. I too decided to pick a pair up as well. Have heard only good things about them and my old skates were hand me downs and had a killer hot spot on my right foot that would leave me limping for an hour after the game. So...why not, right?

So it all worked out after all then. Cool, glad to hear it. Now if only my skates would get here sooner.

The heels a bit ugly, but so long as it's assembled right it should be pretty much bulletproof. If I had paid $800 I'd be a little miffed about that, but since I got them for half off and they fit so well, it's a minor issue for me. First ice time is tonight with them, so I'm anxious to see how they perform. I didn't realize until I sat them next to my One75s how big the blades are on these. They have to be atleast a half inch longer. Hopefully that won't be a negative thing for me.

As far as drilling patterns in them, I'm not sure how well it'd work with the way the skates are now. But if they're willing to make wide versions of the skate for someone, I'm sure they'd be willing to leave them undrilled for you.

I went on the ice for 2hrs today. At first I was worried about the MLX skate’s weight, but once on my foot it is unnoticeable. However, I am coming from a G-series Graf skate :S

Anyways, I was amazed how well the skate molded to my foot. I had soreness on my arches for literally the first 20min. that’s it! I didn’t get the runner contoured and I felt perfectly fine when skating. It did take an adjustment when I would make a quick stop, but I was fine for the rest of the way.

I know there’s a lot of skating left before I finalize my thoughts, but for the first ice session it has been great. This is by far my best experience skating for the first time on a brand new pair of skates.

I would love to hear from the others who are trying the skate for the first time and any tweaks, if any, they had to make.

What do you do for hot spots for players w/ heal bumps?

If the skate doesn't form itself around those bumps the first time around, heat it up, punch it out with your thumb/pressure and refit the skate around that bump. Hattrick has a small bit of Haglunds of sorts (I think, I might be crazy)and I don't believe he's had any problems with the fit.

Krev is right. I have a decent sized Haglunds bump on my left heel and I didn't have any problems with rubbing or hot spots. When I baked the boot I just made sure to kick my heel back to form around it. That spot feels fine and the heel lock is really good.

I got to use the skates for a few hours last night and they felt great. I also had pain in my arches for the first 20 minutes or so, but it went away and I had no other problems. The insoles in these really fill up your arches. It feels weird to actually "feel" something in my arch, as I have pretty high ones. There was no foot pain anywhere else, and the weight was not noticeable at all. Its weird because I could feel that my Reeboks were heavier than my One75s, but I can't feel the weight difference with the MLX. Maybe its where the weight is at?

The skating experience was great as well. I tried lacing them to the top eyelet, but they were too stiff for my liking. I skipped the top eyelet like I do with my One75s and Reeboks, and I felt comfortable there. There was really no adjustment period from my One75s. I've heard people say they feel more centered on these and I see what they mean. I don't know if its the longer runners or what, but I just felt more comfortable, like I was right in the center of my blades. I never felt off balance or too far on my toes or heels. The boot forming so well to my foot gave me a little more support against pronating I felt.

So far I'm really happy with these. I should be able to get on the ice again Monday to play around a bit more, but like puckhoggy said, this has been the best first skate on new skates I've done. My Reeboks killed my feet badly, and these weren't even noticeable.

Went on the ice again (2nd time total), felt even better. Arches were sore for the first several minutes, but then went away. Skating backwards took a few attempts for me before I felt confident again. Other than that, I do not feel the skates whatsoever.I also noticed I have so much energy to spare and love to skate laps and handle the puck along the way. Mind you, the extra energy and effort just might be from my excitement wearing a pair of skates that finally accomodate my feet :) lol

My only probelm thus far is drying out the skates properly. I find it pretty difficult trying to put the insoles back into the skates due to the snug fit of the skate.

Mine had the same issue. After 7 or 8 games they loosened up enough to get in and out reasonably easily. I can't say the same about my feet! I have to unlace 5 eyelets to get them on or off. Putting them on is like sliding my foot through a vise to get into a slipper.

Sounds like your blades need no adjustment. I'd recommend making some reference lines with a sharpie on both front and back in case they slip a bit if they get loose.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that the Bauer Vapor XX's when they came out were 825 grams in a size 8, these are 850 I think? Sure, it's not the less than 700 that the Total Ones are, but still not bad. Interested in hearing how their durability holds up.

Good call. I'll mark it soon. I would tweak the holder a bit, if I wasn't so comfortable at the moment. I just hope the sharpie mark does't rub off or anything lol

So what do all of you guys think of the MLX Skates and their customer service?

Read through the past 5 or so pages and you'll get a good idea.
