My wife busted me on the store security camera "stealing" a new set of pads at 5:30am. Seems I forgot the security system tells her when there is an alert outside of store hours.

LOL

Instead of repairing a broken blade on a OPS by putting a tapered blade in the shaft, you buy a brand new stick.

I know in the past I would always try to salvage a broken stick and take the time to fix it.

Earlier this summer, I got my first job. After my first pay day, I was so happy I finally got some money. And a few weeks later, I find myself with a bunch of new gear and an almost empty bank account. It pains me to see the money go, but damn...

Also, I keep on going to my LHS to see what they have so many times without buying anything... LOL

I'm in a similar situation. I don't work during the year because of school so when I get money during the summer, I'm ashamed to say I get a little out of control. In the past month in a half I've bought a new pair of gloves, 4 sticks, 2 visors, shoulder pads, elbow pads and I'm currently looking at a pair of pants.

I'm not sure whether I should put a  because I have a problem or a  because I have new gear haha

Luckily, my wife doesn't care. I spent $475 at the Caps equipment sale and I didn't need one single thing. HA!

I do love the Easton pro stock gloves so I bought three pairs... That makes my count of pro stock Easton gloves to be 5 pairs (and that's just the Easton's).

Luckily, I don't have a stick addiction. I know my curve and I just buy closeouts when new product is released. I bought 4 Vapor XXV's when they were like $60 each.

Anyone else buy tons of one type of gear but not the other? I get a new helment every few years, sticks all the time but I have owned two roller girdles ever and have had the same elbow pads for a very long time. I just bought ice skates a few months ago but I think I want new ones already.

I've had the same shin pads since '97. I've contemplated replacing these, but just can't find anything that resembles the fit. Since then, I've gone thru 4 pairs of skates, 7 helmets, 10 pairs of gloves (5 pairs in the past year!) and the rest of the equipment changed over once.

Is it a sign you buy too much gear when the guys at the hockey shop invite you to their weekly pickup game?

I've only had my gear buying problem for a little over a year, but once I find something I like, I just load up on it and stop looking for other options. For a while it was the stick, what curve, flex.... I figured out I love the Bauer One95 and TPS R10. Now it's gloves and I'm close to finding my ideal glove. Too bad none of it helps my game out

You guys are hilarious about the wives. If you just told 'em straight out that you like buying hockey equipment the same way they like buying _______ (if you're married, surely you can identify whatever you wife likes buying even when she doesn't need it), they should be able to accept it..

The alternative is to marry someone who also plays.. but that's can be a problem too. Generally, when either my husband or I get into an "I need new _______" fixation, the other one ends up enabling the habit rather than being a voice of reason. Lots of "I don't know if I need new gloves/stick/etc but I want them anyway" "Good, I'll come with you to the store so I can look at gloves/elbow bads/etc." Good for hockey equipment collections and marital relations, bad for the bank account.

My wife might be even more pissed if I dumped her to marry a hockey player.

I don't know how you y'all do it

today I bought a set of S19 gloves, brought em home, played with them a bit, realized I didn't like them as much as another pair I had and returned them...but it got me thinking

I have 2 pairs, and I flip and flop between which ones to play with...I can't imagine 5+ pairs...sticks I have 3, I have my 2 favorites, and the other one sits at home incase I break another one

and I have a VERY understanding wife, thankfully, lol, I just see myself REALLY confused if I had too many choices to make...I'd always end up using one, my favorite

I don't do any drugs, drink or smoke. So I'll replace stuff when it gets worn with whatever's usually considered top of the line at the time. It's not that I necessarily need whatever's the "best," it's just I don't spend money on anything else. I just replaced my 13 year-old Grafs with X:60 LE's and my Oakley gloves with X:60 Pros. When I first buy them, I feel a mild bit of remorse, then I'll use them and feel satisfied with my decision.

Yup, hockey is my only hobby so that is where my spending goes. I used to have a system where I only bought a new piece of equipment after I won a championship but that went out the door as I got older and it got harder to win. Now I just buy the top of the line stuff and stick with it til it is starting to fall apart or stinks even after washing.

Haha, my tolerance for hockey stink has declined since I joined the beer leagues.

Tell me about it. I don't understand how hard it is for people to hang their gear up or lay it out when they get home from their ice-time. I have 3 or 4 buddies that leave it to bake in their car trunks between games and pick-up. Unbearable amount of funk living in their gear.

Is it bad when you get to the point where you start throwing bids on stuff on eBay thinking "eh, I'm not gonna get it anyway" yet your bid "just happens" to be good enough?

I love it when that happens.

Yep, I'm the proud owner of a pair of Easton GX1408 gloves that I threw out the minimum bid on for "nostalgic" reasons since I had a pair in high school. Just so happened that no one else bid...

Ha, I did that too a couple months ago. Actually played with the gloves last week which made me realize how much I don't miss one-piece fingers! Also did it yesterday on a jersey. I saw a bidding war going on, so I was like, "what the hell, I'm not going to get it anyway." I bid a dollar over what was on there and somehow ended up winning.
