NextBobbyOrr 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2010 With a far road game coming up this week, there's a lot for me to look forward to. One thing however, is the dressing room. At the rink I'll be playing in(Squamish), the visitor's dressing room is terrible. It's small, cramped up. The showers are disgusting and the toilets-Oh hey, there aren't toilets. Plus the home dressing room is actually nice. The best I've been to, is one on Vancouver Island. It's brand new, really large with NHL style seats. So with that I'd like to hear, what's the best and worst dressing room you guys remember using?
hamstercaster 2 Report post Posted November 14, 2010 Beaudry arena in Gatineau. The infrastructure itself is very nice with a solid wood roof with huge pilars. The change rooms are small, only one person can shower at a time and the crappers have no doors.
ndlancer95 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2010 Best room I've been in has to be my HS varsity room. Approx. 40x30, 3 ft wide stalls, storage underthe seats, hooks, bose sound system, and NHL style wall stick racks. Then a lifetime stock of all types of tape, and walk in game/practice jersey closetWorst is south Windsor arena. Don't be fooled by the huge pro shop, the place is a hole. Locker rooms are 15 ft long by 5 feet wide, and shower is a 5x5 foot area at the end of the locker room with a shower head, drain, urinal, and a toilet
Chadd 916 Report post Posted November 14, 2010 Best was the visitors locker room in Hershey, we used to get that every once in a while when we rented the ice. Close second is the referee room there. Perfect for two or three guys. Then again, you should probably expect that in a pretty new AHL building.
BuckleyHockey15 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2010 Best is my brothers locker room at Plymouth State University's new rink. Each player has their own stall, pretty wide, compartments, shelves, airflow system in the stall, toilets, showers, flat screen, maybe an xbox not sure though, really nice. Worst is the locker rooms at Kimbull Union Academy in NH, two 5 foot benches, and thats it, we needed atleast 4 lockerooms for the whole team, we only got two, such a disappointment for a nice rink. mug25 2 Report post Posted November 14, 2010 BEST: Palm Beach Ice Works - West Palm Beach, FLI only have one pic of the locker room but this place is insanely nice. The locker rooms are pro-level and the facility itself is just top-notch. It's unfortunate they're in a bad location and don't get a lot of business.WORST: Skate Zone - Lake Worth, FLThe facility itself is decent. Good ice but their locker rooms are just flat out terrible.RUNNER UP WORST: Glacier - Lighthouse Point, FLThe facility itself is an "F". Locker rooms are big but very rarely clean. People spit dip on the floor, garbage usually all over the locker rooms. Saw a huge Palmetto Bug (Roach) once.
JR Boucicaut 3803 Report post Posted November 14, 2010 My friend is the director of facilities at PBIW and I'm currently consulting with them concerning their proshop. However, don't read too much into it - just giving them ideas. Not sure what they really plan on doing wihi it in terms of growth.I hear it is a very nice facility. I'm sure you know the story behind how/why the rink was built so it should be no surprise when I say that their "pro shop" is mostly figure skating products. Too-Toos, tights etc., LOL They definitely need some help in that area of the facility so I hope you help them out. Right now, the only decent pro shop in South Florida is at Incredible Ice/Saveology.Facility is definitely top notch otherwise. Hopefully they start getting more business. BarDownGinos 3 Report post Posted November 14, 2010 Best Rooms:HC Liberec; Liberc, Czech Republic- Went to a training camp there, BIG lockerrooms. We took two teams to camp and everybody fit into the same lockerroom with at least one stall all to themselves. Showers were sketchy but its the Czech Rep. what do you expect.EV Schwenningen; Schwenningen, Germany- Big, clean pro level lockerrooms, pretty cool when you're 12. Rooms were hospital clean, it was crazy.Worst Rooms:Buccaneers Arena; Des Moines, IA- Visitors dressing rooms were old, rank, super tiny, and we always seemed to get the one that had no hot water and no pressure regulator in the showers. There's nothing like getting hit with an ice cold pressure washer after a hard game.Five Flags Arena; Dubuque, IA- Visitors rooms were super tiny, had to dress in an empty zamboni pit with a curtain pulled half the time. Fire0nIce228 1 Report post Posted November 14, 2010 We had to change in the rinks lobby once during a tournament cause other teams were slow getting out and the schedule was all jacked up. That sucked.
PJaeggi97 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2010 Everyone's "worst" sounds amazing compared to mine.Worst place i've gotten dressed, and i say it like that because it wasn't a dressing room. Ramapo,NY. Rink was in the middle of the neighborhood. The rink was a piece of ice, fencing and 4 truck trailers. Yes, we got dressed inside of 2 trailers. Not to mention the floor looked like a mosh pit. No one showered that night. The one time i didn't mind stinking up the bus for 12 hours.
badger_14 601 Report post Posted November 14, 2010 PJaeggi, ouch, I think you win the thread. Most of the rooms I've been in have just been the average box-with-benches. The nicest were probably the ones at the Sky Rink/Chelsea Piers in NYC, for being spacious and clean and relatively warm. The ones at the rink in West Roxbury were pretty nice, too, lots of space and clean. The worst were the ones at my old college - word from those in the know was that they built the rink onto the athletic center, and then just crammed the dressing rooms in where they could. And it shows. They're all different sizes, mostly cramped, always cold, smell rancid (more than usual), one of them is some weird zig-zag shape. And if they run out of rooms, you get to change in the hallway.

Same thing. The locker rooms were construction trailers outside the rink while, I assume, they went through a remodel.
Lostkoz 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2010 My son had a game (Mite level) in Youngstown 2 years ago at the rink where the Phantoms play. The locker room his team was assigned had the worst smell I have ever smelled in the 40 years that I have been alive. Our team goalie's mom and I were the first to throw the bags in the locker room and upon opening the door we were almost hurling instantly. We had the kids dress out in the lobby area because without a doubt it would have been like the scene from the movie Stand By Me when every one was hurling at the pie eating contest. His Squirt team has a game at that same rink this February. Think I may have him completely dress at home and throw his skates on in the lobby.
forbs02 20 Report post Posted November 15, 2010 Here's a couple of bad ones:SPA in St. Paul. They decided to build some more locker rooms by putting up some plywood boxes with no ceilings. They are freezing cold, not to mention you are changing behind a plywood board.Augsburg Arena in Minneapolis. The locker rooms here aren't great, but they aren't really bad either. The problem is that they are considered "changing rooms" so you aren't allowed to leave your gear in them or change in them after your ice time. The groups getting on the ice gets the changing room. That means after our ice time we are getting undressed in the lobby and changing our underthings in the public restroom. Unfortunately that is my league's home rink. The rink in Monsey, NY, not Ramapo is Sport-O-Rama. I play there every Friday and our locker rooms are hit or miss! There are 3 shower heads but only 2 work. No hot water when they are filling the Zam or the idiot Zam driver is using hot water to melt the ice chips. The bathroom in the locker room needs an ammonia/bleach thrashing but it will never happen. They finally put new rubber mats down in the locker room after 35 years. The only good thing is they let us enjoy our post game refreshments in the grubby locker room. All of this for $395 an hour!!The best locker room I was in to play was at Tate Rink at West Point, US Military Academy. The home team locker room is first class. The coolest locker room I was ever in was the Canadiens locker room at the Forum. I got in there on the tour over 15 years ago. Pads and jockstraps hanging in the stalls but to think the Rocket and all the greats were in there was pretty wild.
scorpionhockey55 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2010 I've played in lots of places with no actual locker room. Most places I have played at don't have showers. Playing inline sucks when it comes to locker rooms.Best: Bridgestone arena. Worst: if only counting the places that had locker rooms, I would say SGAA dual deck arena in Snellville, GA. about enough room for 5 people at the most. they had 4 rooms. they needed to knock out the walls and just make two. Jarick 5 Report post Posted November 17, 2010 Best - visitors at Xcel Energy Center...huge locker room with stalls and showers and all kinds of amenities, obviously.Worst - the fish house locker rooms at Palace arena in St Paul. It's about 10' by 6', no heat, no ceilings, tiny benches, you have to change in shifts. Usually we just would change in the lobby.

The rink was essentially outdoors with a huge tarp preventing rain from getting directly on the rink, so winter games were the worst. Sportcourt tiles were often not installed correctly so there were gaps in the tile, not to mention how dirty the tiles were. No showers in any of the locker rooms, and the locker rooms were so small as well.
nickyb13 9 Report post Posted November 18, 2010 because I have only played at two different Ice rinks whose locker rooms were about the same, Ill post on on Inline.worst: The Feasterville Sportsplex, some of the locker rooms were in bathrooms and just real crappy all together.Best: The Milkhouse at the Disney/Espn Wild World of Sports Complex.- individual stalls with separate shelves for gear. each locker had a lockable storage bin under the seat for bags and personal Items. Another plus would be the locker room attendant that was on staff for the tournaments that I played there... very reassuring

pby 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2010 Worst experience was playing inline at a place where they were renovating the male dressing rooms. They allocated a squash court as the temporary place for the guys. Not sure if the worst part was feeling like an animal in a zoo with people watching from above, or the fact that we had to walk through the female changing rooms to get to the squash court. That wasn't the end of it, to take a shower you had to run to the pool building which was a football pitch away and it was tipping with rain at the time. Dupont locker rooms with the sloped 4ft. ceilings and floors with a 25% grade slope really sucked. but the ice and the view through the panoramic windows from the stands with the washington monument at center ice and monuments surrounding make it worth playing there in the ghetto.
