Hiller was an allstar.

Just because he was an allstar this year doesn't mean he isn't underrated. Considering the seasons he's had in Anaheim with a less than stellar team, I'd say he doesn't get nearly enough credit.

Pretty sure someone who is underrated is not recognized as a great player despite being great, so to make the all star team you would have to be recognized. They only picked 6 goalies so I guess I don't see how hes underrated.

Matt Cooke is getting way to much hype for a goon

Goon implies that he fights and we all now Cooke doesn't answer the bell when someone challenges him.

Underrated - Oshie, Leino

Overated - Phanuef, Bouwmeister

Phanuef used to be overrated. Now everyone seems to realize how terrible he is and just don't talk about him anymore. Except McGuire, but everyone ignores him anyone.

Come on now, he fights. He went with Evander Kane, remember?

Speaking of Evander Kane... underrated.

Underrated:

Rick Nash(In my opinion, top 5 player in the NHL)

Steve Ott

Darren Helm

Cal Clutterbuck

Logan Couture

Scott Nichol

TJ Oshie

David Perron(this was going to be his breakout year)

Alex Burmistrov

Evander kane

Tomas Vokoun

Mathieu Darche

Jeff Halpern

Andrej Meszaros(I've said he was underrated for three years)

Jordan Staal

Steve Downie

Teddy Purcell

Mike Lundin

Alex Semin

John Carlson

Overrated:

Olli Jokinen

Brian Campbell

Joe Thornton

Scott Gomez

Phil Kessel

Not sure Couture is underrated. Kind of hard to be overlooked when you're the consensus frontrunner for rookie of the year. Vokoun is considered by many to be the prize of the deadline goaltenders so I also don't think folks are underrating him.

I also wouldn't say that Thornton is overrated. He is the top assist man in the league since the lockout and one of the top point per game men, as well. He has also made 40-50 goal scorers out of some less than stellar players who never came close to those numbers without him.

I think Couture and Vokoun are better than people seem to think they are. Vokoun in particular, much like Nash, people know he's good but underestimate how good he is.

Thornton is a great passer but he makes soo many dumb mistakes over the course of a game that it brings him down as a whole.

Had to jump on this thread to mention Phanuef.

I watch almost every Leafs game, and it boggles my mind how bad this guy is. Can someone explain to me how he EVER scored 54 goals in 3 seasons? It's completely ridiculous. I almost think he must have changed his blade pattern, or suffered some kind of injury that affects his shot, or something. I just can't believe a d-man with such poor accuracy on his point shot could ever score 20 goals in a year. And outside of shots from the point, he gets honestly zero scoring chances. So I really have no idea how he did it in Calgary.

And I don't even need to get into his play in the defensive zone.

He simply isn't good. The fact that the team gave him the 'C' so quickly is a disgrace.

Steve Ott is a piece of shit

Would you still be saying that if he was on your team? He has been a very versatile player for us. Mostly plays on 3rd line, but when needed to, can step up on the first two lines and be a 20 goal scorer. Did a great job of replacing Morrow a few seasons ago. Hes ALWAYS sticking up for his teammates too(whether he should be or not...), no matter how big the other player is. Maybe if he wasnt on the Stars I would hate him, but seems like a guy I'd wanna play for.

Sticking up for his teamates? I've only ever seen him run from a fight.

Please reference Tuesday night's game against San Jose Sharks. Thanks!

One honest move does not make an honest man.

And citing one specific reference doesn't mean there isn't more.

True, however, the overwhelming consensus among the hockey intelligencia is that Ott is a less than honorable player. It was funny last night to hear Ott's rant about Heatly and protecting players followed by a color commentator's comment about stones and glass houses.

And before we get into the whole, "yeah, but you'd love him if he was on your team" thing, no, I wouldn't. I can't stand that Brad Marchand is showing similar tendencies at times. If he continues to develop into that kind of player then I would rather him gone than be an embarrassment to the B's.

Sorry, but that general consensus you're speaking of doesn't exist. Just so happens that the people that get angry about his play style tend to be the loudest.
