APX vs 7.0 - More Details

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have read a bunch on the new APX skate, but I have some questions that I hope can be answered in one centralized location. I realize that the skates are not out yet, so I am really reaching out to those "in the know" or reps/dealers who have tried them on.

I have been using the Vapor series since the XX and am currently wearing the x:60, which I love, but I also love to try out the latest and greatest from the Vapor line as they continue to impress. Now I fit in the Vapor series pretty well; lengthwise they are pretty much spot on, volumewise they are a TINY bit too roomy. The supreme line just does not work for me; they kill me feet and just do not fit well, which is the way it goes when it comes to Vapor vs Supreme.

My main concerns are, even though the APX is considered to be a standalone, is it a similar fit to the traditional Vapor series? Has someone that likes the x:60 tried on the APX and liked them as well? Is it a larger feel? Is there less room in the toebox because of the changes there? Would I be the same size (9D) in an APX?

I am trying to place a preorder and am trying to narrow down my decision.

Sorry if some of these questions have been answered directly/indirectly in other posts, but perhaps I haven't seen them...just trying to get the best compare/contrast. I'm fine if they are a standalone skate, but just wouldn't want them to fit completely different.

THANKS!

As I stated, I tried the skate in October and the APX was roomier than skates of Vapor past.

I never could put on a Vapor skate and have it fit well, let alone comfortably.

Hi JR, I did read that, but wasn't sure if it was prior to baking. Also, was the toebox smaller; would 1/2 size up be required? Thanks.

Baking the skate would not really have the potential to make it fit nay noarrower or smaller unless you are talking about a thermoformable unibody of some sort. I haven't looked into the discussions about the APX that much but did not get the impression that is was utilizing that type of technology.

I agree - baking expands the skates, and while with Alive it's possible to compress & mold the boot somewhat it's just that much easier to get a bit smaller boot & bake it to make it fit perfect then the other way around

I was under the impression that baking the skate while wearing in the compression/heat ovens would mold the skate to your foot better.

So if there is more "volume" space, but the toebox is more "closed", doesnt that sound like it would make for an awkward fit coming from the x60? Just curious, as it sounds like a smaller size would be good for the volume fit, but tighter lengthwise.

Just curious, but why would you risk $800 on a skate that you can't try on? What's the advantage of pre-ordering vs. just waiting for them to be released so you can make sure they fit?

I won't risk it, I was looking for people that transitioned from the x60 to say they fit well. I can always sell them if they didn't fit the way I liked.

Even going off others' opinions is risking it, I would assume no other board member has your feet. Why not just wait and try them on, seems like it is the most efficient thing to do.

I never understood why I fit in a Supreme D but not a Vapor D, I know they made Vapor skates narrower but not sure why they made it that way.

I'm hoping the APX will be different

yeah i'm hoping that too. i hope the APX D ist volumewise like Supreme D because the Vapor D is too narrow and the EE a little bit wide. And i hope there will be a Limited Edition, the new graphic design isn't lookin good to me, but i would look over it if the fit is great.

So they can market skates to two sets of customers.

Unfortunately, both narrow and wide footed MFers want the latest/greatest moreso than the proper fit.

Pay the extra 100 and go custom at that price point the extra money is worth it to get all the custom options. They are taking orders for APX now, I just had my son fit for a pair I'm told they will be at the store on launch day.

That's a good point, where did he get fitted? Did you order straight from Bauer?

Wow I didn't know you could preorder a custom skate for models prior to its launch. Let alone receive the custom skate by or on launch day. I always thought you couldn't put an order in until after the fact.

I am scheduling an appointment with the Bauer rep once I have some time. Not sure is I will go APX, 7.0 or Total one customs.

I dont really like my total ones so it may be 7.0

How do you find these reps that can fit you appropriately?

Talk to your LHS.

The rep said the 7.0 will be available after April 24th or sometime around there or can get a X60 now.

Just have to find time to schedule and decide if I should go around me or go see Darstar

Supreme retail D last is an oversized last. A D is an E.

Vapor retail last is a true last. A D is a D.

hi, i just turned 16 and have always had fit problems with skates, vapors fit me the best and i was thinking of going custom with apx's. im a little small, 5'7 140 but have large feet that i think maybe have stopped growing ( having not seen growth for the past 4 months) size 11 shoe. So yea, i work alot in the summers and have made some good money. my parents are willing to split the cost of the retail price as a birthday gift. as i said i have had fit problems in the past and bauer vapors fit the best so ya, i was wondering if it were worth it to spend the extra 100 to go custom.

thanks

What does "last" mean, when referring to the skate? Is it the boot's bed? Volume?

It's the form, in the shape of a foot, on which the boot is built. Differences in the shape of the last result in differences in the shape of the inside of the boot.
