Too Old

Bye bye Bin Laden.. .now what?

Recommended Posts

Will this cause a ramp up in terrorist attacks? Do they really have a nuclear bomb stashed in Europe to use? Glad they finally got the man who caused so much pain and suffering for thousands of innocent people.

I won't cry for this piece of garbage. I hope we can all agree to a truce and come to a reasonable stance now. No more terrorist attacks or intentionally bombing civilian targets.

There were terrorist nutjobs before him, and there will be after. I just hope someone doesn't try to claim his post by doing something crazy. I don't have a great feeling about it to be honest.

Not entirely sure why my previous post was deleted, but due to the significance of this event and my hard-headed nature I'll try again. I'm certainly am glad to hear the news that Bin Laden was killed but I don't think it will change anything in the war on terror. That being said I'm glad that a man who caused so many people pain haa been 'brought to justice'. Some day it will be interesting to hear the stories from the men who were sent in to take Bin Laden out.

It would be dumb to think there isn't another hatemonger waiting in the wings, but it brings some closure to someone that caused so much strife here and abroad.

For some his death brings some sort of closure for people they lost, for others it gives them pride in our military. As others have mentioned, there will be others willing to step up and take his place. Very few of them will have access to his money, contacts and his experience/ability to coordinate a major attack like the one on September 11 2001.

I agree with some of the analysts on TV, don't get too happy. Terrorism cannot be stopped by the killing of one man, no matter how powerful he is. It's an ideal and as long as that hatred lives on in people, terrorism will never stop, it might diminish slightly and that's the best we can hope for. I also think there will be a rash of perhaps slightly less- coordinated attacks coming up soon as these factions want to still proclaim to the world that they are indeed alive and relevant.

Quite the story. I hope in the coming weeks we can gather more information that details the leads our intelligence community got, how they tracked it all, and most importantly the awesome military operation that concluded this saga. That would be extremely interesting to me.

It's a great day to be an American and a great day to celebrate the death of this most heinous maggot.

Pakistan meanwhile has serious egg on their face. We went in there without even telling them about it. They deny that. Obama is playing nice about it to keep them happy as well. But it's clear as day they couldn't be trusted and this was a US effort that was acted out to get Bin Laden. Here he was living in a freakin suburban mansion 40 miles out of the capital city of Pakistan and the ISI didn't know about it?

All that being said, what does bother me is that they gave him a 'proper burial' at sea in accordance with Islamic procedures and tradition. First it gives the mongoloid conspiracy theorists a chance to claim he isn't dead because we don't have pictures out there of his body. Second, this maggot murdered thousands of people and they were never allowed to be buried properly. A lot of them have never even had their remains found. And here we are giving this subhuman piece of garbage a proper service? I say put the body and champagne on ice until Dec 31st and then drop him instead of a ball in Times Square.

In the end, it seems a bit hollow to me and that is what upsets me the most. We won the battle in a war we've already lost that will never end.

God Bless America. Definitely a big day for America and the military with the war on terror. Though I am happy this has finally happened, I do feel as if there will be minimal change in the middle east. With the removal of Osama Bin Laden there will most likely be another person to take his place.

terrorism has been going on for longer than Osasma has been around and will most likely be a part of the future as well (not to be a downer or anything).

No reason to cause an international incident. Even less reason to embarrass or shame a corpse. He's dead, sunk to the bottom of the ocean. As long as he cant plot another attack, thats as close as we'll get to justice.

I, for one, think that there shouldn't be a single detail about this operation revealed. Two reasons: first, why tell the enemy how you were able to find them and kill them? Second, no need to endanger the assets, personnel and families of those involved.

i think its important to explain some detail. like the fact that pakistan was willing to assist, when the very broad perception from the north american public was that pakistan was supporting Al Qaeda and assisting Bin Laden in hiding. All Pakistan wanted was verified intelligence that he really was hiding in their country before they took action. The US proved it (apparently in August 2010) and the Pakistani counterparts assisted. Obama didn't address which departments were part of the mission (unlike CNN, who speculated it was JSOC), nor did he go into any kind of detail that would endanger any of the personnel involved.

A couple days ago, my wife (who lived in the US for almost 10 years and is still very interested in their current events), said "Obama said in a speech that the US needs good news... I wonder if they'll find Obama" and sure enough, last night, the news was announced.

Agreed, we should be better than that. Though I'm sure the images of people partying in the street over his death are going over wonderfully in various middle eastern nations. Much like the videos of some of them celebrating the deaths in the US on September 11th.

Another stereotype towards muslims there chadd. Vast majority (99%) of muslims hate him just as much as us. He's killed more muslims then jews or christians or hindu or w/e. Wont be surprised to see people everywhere doing a celly just like all across the US.

Only reason why I can't imagine much of a celly in the streets is because there are still crazy ducks over there bombing people, al-qaeda or not. Here we are a lot more secure than lets say Syria or QAE or Iran, so more likely for a terrorist attack to happen there then here, and if everyone was in the streets doing a celly, that's prime target with mass casualties.

They might not be having a party in the streets, but, they sure as hell aren't mourning outside or in their homes, they're partying inside.

edit-

just saw on news, they're dancing in yemen. even with taliban links in that country saying they're gonna retaliate.

and in pakistan people were taking to the streets while again, they are saying they'll attack pakistan for this.

yes people will retaliate for it, but once all of them die of either nato/us forces, or blowing themselves up by taking a few with them, they'll be gone. and yes, there are people mourning this, but just like here in the USA, the nutjobs get a voice too and are heard, and for the arab world, seem like the voice for america, when they are a super minority group of people.

Not at all, there are extremists on all sides. Just saying that some people will not take to kindly to the visuals. If Gitmo is a recruiting tool, so too will be the videos of people dancing in the streets.

The other thing I left that was interesting was how this information came to light. The key was a courier and one of his most trusted people. They got his name from... a prisoner in Guantanamo Bay.

Now... who here still thinks waterboarding is a bad idea? Not me.

Hold on, now. While the information may have come from Guantanamo Bay (and I am skeptical if that is true) there has been no evidence that such information was acquired through the use of some form of torture.

Perhaps, and I never said there was... but I highly doubt detainees are giving up information freely for a nice big slice of apple pie or a bacon double cheeseburger either. I have to imagine they are put under some duress - a form of torture one way or another.

Either way, I'm still fine with waterboarding and whatever else is necessary.

The Samuel Jackson movie "Unthinkable" really takes you to the limit of what is acceptable in torture? (not a great movie in general) but makes you think, Jack Bauerish

Congrats to the US troops(Seals) for going in, not losing a man and giving justice and to the Pres, who said US will bomb in Pakistan, US will send in troops like it or not and US will kill him. Well done.

Surprised that a terror expert on CNN declared terrorism over, must have been caught up in the moment. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of young men to take up the delusional cause.

Leadership, funding and tactics hopefully are disrupted.
