Does anyone know if the Winter Classic sticks will be sold to the public?

From Bauer's Facebook, "Bauer has created custom sticks for both the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers for this year's Winter Classic. The sticks will be signed after the game by the players that use them and will then be auctioned off for charity. We will provide all the information regarding the auction as soon as it becomes available."

Check the sell thread on Jan.3

Why would they be? It's a keepsake for the players. It's not like you're playing on NY or PHI on Jan 2, 2012.

I am a fan though something that may only happen once in

My life time with the team i cheer for i as well would like a keepsake to remember this game by. They sell everything else why wouldn't they sell this as well?

Why wouldn't they be? If there is a market for something, don't you think Bauer would investigate it?

Because sometimes mementos should just be for those who actually participated.

When I worked for Tampa Bay, the item that was requested the most at the sales I used to conduct were the equipment bags. And we said no every time.

In soccer, when teams play a World Cup Final or UEFA CL Final, the event name, date and participating teams are embroidered on the jerseys the players wear. While they will sell fans jerseys with the event patch, you don't get the embroidery. Same concept applies.

But I'm the asshole here for saying it.

no one called you an asshole, i simply asked what the big deal was in someone really liking the custom WC twigs and asking if they could purchase one? i understand the the fact that they are momentos for the players and rightfully so.... not a big deal at all

I'm all for fans wanting to get a piece of very exclusive gear but I will darned if these sticks all end up on eBay for $800 each from scalpers/dealers who tend to get to these first.

I absolutely hate the idea that these will all be sold for crazy prices anyway.

This is old news:selling/auctioning off game used gear from special events, especially hockey. Once the World Jr tourney ends, Hockey Canada will probably auction the player helmets, jerseys, and gloves on ebay. They have been doing it for years now. I got a pair of Vapor XXXX gloves from the 08/09 team that way. I still use them, too.

agreed 100%... the sad thing is these are going to be auctioned off for charity, so if you are the lucky SOB who gets one, you should be happy and hang on to it as a keepsake, but sadly there most likely will be a few greedy people who arent even real fans that will throw these up on ebay and ask astronomical amounts of money, rather than appreciating it for what it is

You can bet those sticks will sell for $1000 or more each. Not from "greedy people" selling them for that much either. Its because they are cool looking, money goes to charity, and people with deep pockets will pay, especially ones that live in those two cities.

See how much the 2011 Nike MAG (Nike Back to the Future shoes) charity auctions went for? Every pair went for more than $5,000 each, some went for close to $20,000 at the beginning.

Sorry if this seems an obvious question but are these Bauer repaints just that? (as in a repainted T1, APX, X:60 etcetc.) and only for current Bauer players to use them, or can any player (save for contracted maybe) now request them?

no no im not saying the people who win they by paying for them in the auction are greedy. its when they go up on and jack up the price even more just to make a buck.

Really? Just remember that they are able to "participate" because we care enough to watch. No one wants a stick I used last year playing pond hockey with my buddies.

I don't get why some people are getting so upset that they can't get one of those Bauer Winter Classic sticks. Just because you want one, doesn't mean you deserve it. I mean, I would really like one of those silver sticks they give to players who reach 1,000 games. I don't think I'll be getting one of those anytime soon though.

Well, no one produces those silver sticks in the weight, flex, and curve of actual players that members may actually desire to use. I don't find it ridiculous at all... if you we're looking to avoid the hockey equipment whores, you've stumbled on the wrong funnyfarm.
