Wax laces on X60

Recommended Posts

Am currently in X60's coming from Graf Supras with Graf wax laces. I am digging the X60's, but when trying them on in the store I realized the Bauer stock laces were not for me. So I purchased some wax laces at the counter, not even paying attention to what kind they were. Suffice to say that they are not helping me much.

When I was in the Grafs I could tighten my skates quickly and easily, but in the Vapors I have to do the thing where you tighten the lace, then pin down the area where the laces cross each other against the tongue with your index finger while you set up to do the next eyelet on the rung. It feels so tedious, and if you release pressure for a second, you often have to start over again.

The Vapors are stiffer compared to the Grafs, and I like that, but that stiffness, and the X60 tongue, I think, make them more of a pain in the butt to lace.

Is there a brand of wax laces that works well with the Vapes? Might Graf wax work/adhere with the X60 boot and tongue? Some other brand? Thanks for any responses.

Try your graf laces in the x:60. Sounds like you just need a better brand, with a higher wax content. The graf laces are great, the heavy wax A&R aren't terrible and easy to find in most shops.

For the record I have purchased a pack of elite waxed laces in the past and they were not waxed, could be the same deal.

I use the the Pro-Guard wax laces since that is what my LHS has. Seem to work fine in my x60's. I think once the skates are bit more broken in that the eyelets will fold over bit more and be easier to lace them.

what wax laces are GTA members using? It seems only thing around here is Elite and Tex which unless you buy the red or green laces have no wax in them.

Mostly Elite and some Sidelines. Just bought a pair of Elite Oval laces and we'll see if it's any better

Did you bake the skates? I don't know about the other brands but tex-style (the suplier for graf skates) and sportstape (suplier for bauer) are great but still too narrow. What I seen on a friend's skates are tex-style non waxed which I liked very much because they were wide and stayed that way, really solid knitting there.

I'd love to hear your thoughts after you get a chance to use them. I was considering picking some of those up myself. I probably will anyway the next time I'm at a store that carries them as it's a cheap experiment.

Im usin the elite wax laces on my x40's and they are workin great as far as staying tight. I dont get much resistance or retracting after I tighten. Although I do agree with some of the other comments like they are too narrow, and mine started ripping after about 10 games at a bunch of eyelet spots

I don't know if its a US thing but the Elite wax laces in the UK are CAKED in wax. A&R seem pretty consistent so that would be your safest bet

Another random thought : After tying and selling countless pairs, I absolutely HATE Bauer stock laces. Often too short, too feathery and killer on your fingers.

I have had elite laces on both ends of the spectrum.

Just picked up a pair of Bauer waxed laces today. I had elite waxed on my skates that started to rip in less than 10 games. They had a good amount of wax on them but I felt they were also too narrow. The Bauer laces are definitely wider which is nice and seem like they have a good coating of wax. Will see how they work tomorrow during my game.

I bought two pairs of elite waxed laces, one pair of them had no wax at all and other pair which was waxed but became too thin when you laced them up.

Probably should avoid them.

I have tried regular elite laces and not liked them, to narrow and hardly any wax on them. Just last week I bought some elite ovals and they are by far the best laces I have ever used, thick and tight in the eyelets and very heavily waxed. Awesome !!

With my Bauers I used Graf wax laces because they were so stiff I needed the waxed to hold my foot in place (my foot was moving around inside the boot). When I switched to Graf skates I went to Bauer unwaxed at first to avoid lace bite, but moved back to Graf waxed and loosened up the lacing a bit.
