Again I'd like to echo that the main character is nothing like Stifler at all. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the movie, was a laugh and entertaining. Moreover they really nailed the behind the scenes stuff and relationships between players.

As for the Slapshot comparisons, it is inevitable.

Just saw it today and I enjoyed it. SWS as a hockey player isn't all that bad. Sure the acting could've been better, but take it for what it's worth, a hockey movie about the enforcing life, and it's a good movie. I may be in the minority, but Slapshot is a terrible movie.

Was hilarious to see the cutout people seat-fillers at Doug's only assassin's game. Low budget, but ok movie. Glad I caught it before I had to spend more money in theater.

It was all right, nothing special or memorable.

Anybody catch any mistakes in the movie? I caught two: (these are not spoilers for those who haven't seen the movie)

1. At like 25 minutes, the goalies starts whacking his stick because the penalty is ending, except it's the goalie of the team killing the penalty whacking his stick...

2. At 42 minutes, the faceoff to start the period is in the neutral zone, not at center ice...

Anybody find anything else???

I rented it from Comcast OnDemand.

I'm pretty sure when one GWG crosses the goal line with seconds left and then the clock continues to run out...no faceoff at center ice with the remaining time left.

Personally, I thought it was good. Not great, but good. I also expected it to be awful, so as long as it wasn't terrible I was going to be pleasantly surprised.

***If you haven't seen the movie yet, my comments below could spoil parts of the story***

I thougth it touched on the different roles on a hockey team, and the dynamic between them. With several tough-guy/enforcers in professional hockey having had cases of depression and suicide publicized recently, it at least raises the issue of what it might feel like to be in that position. I also thought it was nice that Glatt doesn't end up a skilled hockey player after the training montage. He learns to skate well enough to fight, but doesn't become a goal-scorer overnight.

The fighting scenes were a little to "Rocky" for me...repeatedly trading haymakers that would likely cause a KO or at least end the fight...but I suppose that's to be expected in a movie.

Did you see the actual fight scenes during the credits? The guy who wrote the book threw some gnarly hay makers just like the ones in the movie. He is a pro fight coach now. Pretty interesting, the guy was a brute!

Saw it yesterday and I laughed out loud more than a few times. Much better than I expected in every way. Even the hockey scenes weren't that bad.

Yeah. I also saw it on Itunes. The locker rooms scenes with the captain were so priceless. "You are all adonises" lol

Not sure that number 1 is really a mistake. I've seen the shorthanded goalie do it when his team was in a rush or had control in the other team's end as the penalty was expiring.

Its funny because a beach ball is bigger than a puck.

The locker room stuff was the best.

Ahah indeed. The parts with his ''love interest'' were awkward as hell tho, I'm glad they were few and far between

His love interest is Jay Baruchel's/his buddy in the movie's fiance in real life. I can see how that would be awkward.

I was happy with the movie. Knew going in what the movie was going to be like so my expectations weren't huge. I had some laughs, it kept my attention, and I enjoyed it for the movie that it was. I also liked that they kept Doug as a low skilled player that could fight and no more. I think it spoke more to the role as an enforcer this way. Also loved that they gave some thought about how enforcers feel about their role. Doug mentions how he would do whatever was necessary becuase he was sticking up for his team and that's what mattered.

Definitely worth watching even if a few parts are pretty outlandish.

Wife watched it with me last night. She liked it, and she thinks fighting in hockey is stupid (I have a hard time explaining why its there and what a disaster it would be if it wasn't).

Saw it on the weekend. I went in not expecting much, but it was actually pretty good. Jay Barshel is ridiculous...The goalie is awesome. The locker room stuff is good...Lots of legit funny stuff. Even the basic storytelling is pretty good. Rally around the under dogs...blah blah blah. The guy who plays the Coach was great. I didn't even mind the Doug/Eva angle. SWS plays a really loveable dummy, not the rude, brash Stifler type everyone expects him to be in every role. At the end of the day, he's a team mate I'd want to have. "I'll do whatever the team needs...If they need me to bleed...I'll bleed"

(I couldn't hear Liev Shrieber deliver a line without thinking about HBO 24/7 though...LOL...I hope they do that again next year.)

A lot of the hockey action scenes were decent...at least shot to look like an actual game. Skimmed through the credits to see if I recognized any names...no one jumped out.

The game in "Quebec" was obviously filmed in Winnipeg...LOL...why they'd bother to repaint a logo on the ice, but not remove the MTC Centre stuff is weird, and the rink boards had Canad Inns, a Manitoba based company.

Watch the credits...The Doug Smith stuff at the end was good too. I think most of it is used in that TSN feature already posted.
