Montreal Canadiens 2011-2012 Thread

I don't think he questioned the fight, moreso the response to it. I would advocate sending them both home, cool off for the afternoon, and come back with cooler heads ready to play. Leaving them both in practice might get one of them hurt, as tempers would still be very high.

With a relatively new coach, you have to take every opportunity you have to get players on board with your system. Sending those players home could set back that process.

I don't think any coach on a struggling team would be upset with a couple of his players squaring off in practice. The common phrase after is probably something to the effect of "Good.......I want my players to be angry........now if they just show that emotion in the games we might finally pull ourselves out of this funk."

I don't think I've ever heard of players getting sent home after scrapping in practice. 99% of the time, once the scrap happens that is the end of it.

TSN is also reporting he was dismissed, and sent back to the hotel after the 2nd period. Weird.

would they really send him to the hotel? hes not allowed to stick around and say bye to his teammates?

Interesting deal. Under optimum conditions, Cammalleri is a 40-goal, 80+ point producer; the Flames have been playing the hell out of Bourque and he doesn't look capable of breaking 30/60. But Bourque adds some grit - or at least annoyance - to a lineup that's pretty soft. For the Flames, Ramo's got potential: he's been doing really well for Omsk the last couple of years, and he's always looked to have great ability.

Cammalleri is a talented player, but wasn't really earning his 6 million dollar contract in the regular season with Montreal. He did play very well in the playoffs, but his lack of regular season production wasn't helping the Canadiens get to the playoffs this year. I don't know a lot about Bourque because I don't watch a lot of Western confernce games, but at least his cap hit is about half of what Cammalleri's is and he did have a 27 goal year last year and adds a bit more size.

I would've rather read that Gomez and Gionta were traded (that would really free up some space), but that's probably just a pipe dream (especially Gomez...a buy out or demotion to the AHL are probably the only two options).

Stupid of the GM to trade him while his value is at its lowest.. I mean.. its bad enough he was having a subpar year.. but when the guy goes out and makes comments like that the day before you deal him other GMs have you by the balls in my opinion. Bourque adds some size but I agree he's nothing more than a 30/30 player and a 30 year old 'power forward' that supposedly wear down faster than other players..

Would have been smarter to hold until deadline if he really wanted to get rid of him that badly.

Bigger issue is, get traded for speaking what everyone else thinks?

I think the value going back to Mtl for Cammalleri shows his value is quite high. Both teams got good NHL players that should help each team. But after calling his teammates "losers" something had to be done. You just can't have that said publicly by your top offensive player when you're struggling and the team is struggling.

I think Cammalleri's words were taken out of context, just as some of his teammates echoed in sentiment earlier today. He was trying to make a point about the team, not insult it. Just so happened that he mentioned his decreased playing time in seeming frustration and that's what turned things on him.

Makes you wonder if he caught word of this and maybe that's what sparked it for him. Was it last night's game or tonight's game that he left after the 2nd period and went back to the hotel?
