the magic man pavel datysuk.....you don't get as many steals as him without extreme hustle

his points are not as high as everybody elses but you cant deny the fact he is the best 2 way player in the NHL

Would T. Seguin fall in here?

I'd say not yet. He has improved his energy level but there are still those moments when he just doesn't seem to compete like he should. He'll get there but he is just not there yet.

Hossa is a complete player, but he's older, and paces himself a bit more than some of the younger guys. I think he gets plenty of credit, from what I hear in the local and national media. He's often mentioned as one of the very best two-way players in the game. They almost always mention him in the short game previews on NHL Network. A lot of media types have noted how Toews, Sharp, and Kane have seen their numbers improve at different points, when put on a line with Hossa.

this is what I mean . He does get alot of praise , yes. But there's always that BUT thrown in there , because he's played with a more "marketable" player like Alfredson , Kovalchuk , Crosby , Kane etc.... And when it looks like he's paceing himself , its actually because he skates more effortlessly than mostly everyone he's playing with.........i dunno , maybe im being bias , because Ive liked him since the day he came into the league and always get tired of the BUTS.

The answer is Zach Parise. Hands down hardest working player on the ice for both teams. If you want a role model for the kind of player you want your kids to be show them Zach.

Scotty Hartnell...

Is often one of the laziest players on the ice. When he wants to play he's dangerous, but he takes off way too many shifts to be called a "hustler".

Crosby.

Bingo

Combine an intensity that appears to be second to none in the NHL with hands that are certainly near the top and you have the best combination of hustle and skill. Perhaps even the best combination that the league has ever seen.

The reason for that "but" is simply to differentiate the energy level and hustle that some of the younger players have, which is the subject of the topic. Your comments about other players don't relate to my statements; I pointed out that he makes them better, which is more praise for him.

And what I'm thinking of is not "skating more effortlessly" -- I'm referring to the times on his shifts where I see him coasting. The other side of that is that he's one of the smarter players out there, and plays position very well, so often he's coasting in an open area as part of doing his job. He works a lot: plays PP, PK, and Q will often double-shift him. But he is a bit older, and I can't say he's always digging as much as Toews. It's biology.

Hossa is one of my favorite players, and I've got his number on the jersey I wear to games. Don't take it as denigration when we're discussing only the hustle aspect here.

I agree with Datsyuk.

I will look for this a bit more. It is tough since I only catch the Philly games on VS.

A lot of his penalties come from hooks and slashes when he stops moving his feet. He led the league in minor penalties a couple years ago because of things like that.
