Interesting comment by Chara on industry's constant change

My favourite line of gear: XXXX, by the time I was able to afford some skates they have already moved on to the X:60 which I eventually got as well. By the time the APX replacement comes out, I'll probably do the same with skates.

But hasn't the G3 profile been around a while?

For pros yes, not at retail.

I'd like to reference the dolomite as an exception to this rule. That stick lasted a long time and at a solid price point.

This was in today's Boston Globe, while discussing his slapshot during the All Star festivities:

Meanwhile, Big Z, who rarely grows animated during his discussions with the media, was clearly frustrated with how equipment manufacturers are so quick to change stick specifications. Based on what he said, every time he gets comfortable with a stick, it seems the manufacturer changes the design - literally taking the tool out of his hands.

My heart bleeds for Chara! The struggles of Mr. 108.8!!

I'm pretty sure if Mike Green really wanted whatever stick it was that he liked, he could get it. Money talks. This is life.

He had to buy HIS game used sticks from fans a couple of years ago b/c he missed the CNTs.

More on Green's Lucky Stick

As you read last night, Mike Green's record-breaking stick, the one that was earmarked for the Hockey Hall of Fame, made it to Pittsburgh in time for the opening faceoff. But Green didn't use the Stealth because he said he had already decided to go with S17.

"I couldn't use it" in Game 6, Green said. "I just got used to the other one. To go back right before the game ..."

Apparently, the hall-of-fame stick wasn't the last Mike Green edition Stealth in the world, as I claimed yesterday. Green said at least a half dozen are supposed to arrive sometime today or tomorrow -- from fans and friends of friends.

"Somebody wrote something yesterday," Green said, referring to my blog post yesterday. "So [stealths] are coming in like no tomorrow. They're coming out of everywhere. Fans and one of the reporters even had one.

"I'll use [a Stealth] in the morning and see how it feels," he added.

exactly they can stock pile it if they really wanted but when your used to getting stuff for free your not going to dip into your own money for it. Wasn't it Brendan Shanahan that bought up all of Easton's aluminum shafts inventory when they were phasing them out?

What is Green using these days? I know he used a Base stick and then switch back.

The dude is a millionaire.

If he likes a certain stick so much, I'm pretty sure he could figure out a way to get a LOT of them.

A) not without significant effort. He would have to track down his own game used sticks.

B) even the largest stockpile would eventually run out.

i think if he really wanted them, they'd still eventually run out. no hockey player will pay manufacturers to bring back their old assembly lines just to build a line of sticks for them. chara's beef is with manufacturers who arbitrarily cycle products when there was nothing wrong with their sticks.

another example is graf's 7 series. endured, for now anyways.

Like I said, if he really wanted them, he would find a way. (even if it took a "significant effort").

We're talking about hockey sticks here, not space shuttles. Did Easton forget how to produce the stick he used? No. Did they lose the capability to do so? I highly doubt it.

As far as the whole Chara thing, I think Warrior is doing a good job with the marketing right now. Good job, dudes. Keep getting the name out there. Sales will follow.

Yes, companies frequently tool an entire production line to produce a discontinued product for one person.

I don't see it as "bitching". I see it as lamenting an inevitability of the sport.

They do? Proof?

In a lot of these cases, it is exactly that; they retool and can't produce the same product.

A prime example is Bauer and skates...there are certain models that not only they don't have the components for, but are to the point that they don't have the tooling to make them.

JR, don't manufacturers have contracts as well with providers of some of their materials/components that also will run out and factor into new production? (materials as in Curv composite, Pittards etc.)

Yeah, wow, next time I'll use sarcasm tags or something. Point is, if they don't make them, they don't make them. And it's not as easy as going out and buying all of the Synergys or whatever in existence, because playing with a pattern you're not used to is worse than a flex profile that you're not used to.

I'm amazed at how people make this stuff up...

I think it was a facetious answer to the poster who suggested Chara has the means to get a manufacturer to start producing again a discountinued product.
