The holder & steel will be available by itself. I would expect as well for a lot of elite players to convert to these holders so if they break their steel during a game or loose that edge they wont miss a shift. I couldn't count how many times I've heard stories of the kid losing his edge or steel breaking and there is no one there to help - and the kid can't play the rest of the game.

A good story I remember - there was a kid who was a returning player for a team & he broke his steel during warmups during the all-star game. He couldn't return to the ice until the 2nd. He didn't make the team. Potentially lost a D1 scholarship. If he had these on his skates, he wouldn't have missed anytime, probably make the team & potentially get a scholarship. Having this holder & steel will be huge.

How can the holder promote a tighter turning radius? Wouldn't that be a function of pitch and radius? Whether it be from the pitch of the holder or having your steel profiled? If the radius is 9' wouldn't it be the same as any 9'? I guess I don't see how ah holder would allow for tighter turning.

You answered your own question.

Like I stated, it is 3mm taller in the rear than the previous holder, as well as stiffer.

I was worried when I got the email you had quoted my post. I'm pretty sure I get it. Thank you.

This is a great site. I wish I got a nickel every time I check it. I'd be loaded!

As someone that hasn't seen the holder in person, the worry I have with the new holder is trigger release during play ie. puck to the skates. Eventually, wouldn't this break down the mechanism over time or, in the case of bad batches, even sooner?

The mechanism is inside the tower - it should be fine. I was told that it was tested extensively, and I've been to their factory and have seen them test. things. And it's in a good spot as well.

You don't need any special holders or steel if you break a runner or lose an edge, just a spare set of sharpened steel that fits your skates, ready to go in your bag. Runners can be changed in 2-3 minutes.

And with this, :20. Toolless. And the skates stay on, without someone else helping you. It's a good concept.

So for equipment managers who sharpen skates between every period, this will be a life saver. Also if a guy wants a different cut based on ice conditions it can be swapped out without missing a shift.

Unless you have a bunch of guys in EPros.

They're just going to have to stock up on sets of steel and keep them paired and labeled for each player. And have a steel rack next to their Stick rack on the bench lol

It’s a lot easier to buy someone out rather then develop it from scratch.

Warrior

Irony.

Although I will argue that Warriors success in buying out others did lead them to developing alot of cool stuff from in-house. (Dagger taper, Axy-sym, Krown 360, etc)

What a concept having extra steel ready to go if something happens, or ice conditions change. Anyone that can drive a nut driver can swop out a set of steel in 1 or 2 shifts. I wonder what the added weight will be for the new holder?

I think you are missing the goal here - while you may do that...the masses don't even know it was possible to do that, especially with a Bauer skate.

Think globally here.

It's an attempt to create a new revenue stream so the stock price will go up and the venture capital guys make more money selling off their remaining shares.

I agree it's a very good idea, just not really required for average Joe to spend extra $$$, when it can be done so easily on the current holders. I know thousands who routinely rotate runners and have spare sets, it's not difficult at all. Now if we were talking Tuuk+ holders, I'd recommend everybody change!

Many people could also benefit from fixing the screws on their helmet by purchasing a helmet repair kit, but they'd rather come up to the pro shop and wait in line for a screw and borrow a screwdriver. How often does the same kid come into the shop for a pair of scissors to cut the tape off the heel of his stick? This isn't going to stop some people from going to the shop to change out the steel, but it might cut it down and also add to more runner sales.

To me it appears that Bauer came up with a product that will keep people buying Bauer steel. I hope that they will keep the LS2 holders available for custom as my son will be ready for a new set in the spring. He's 15 and has no problem changing the steel on his APX now.

No noticeable added weight with the edge holder and steel slides in/out very smootly. The apx 2 as a whole is incredibly light. Saw and felt the skate for myself today.

How does the APX2 compare to the APX? Have they adressed the issue that many switched from the X60 to the Supreme because the APX was too stiff?

Great concept. Really sucks that blackedge and step will not be available. Couldn't they make the top of the blade a slightly different shape that still fits into the holder correctly?

Another thing I should add - I also played around with the QuikBlade in Vegas; while it achieved the same thing, it was clunky by design; due to the location of the trigger (middle of the tower.) It was somewhat easier to turn the skate over and use your thumb to pop it off.

The Tuuk design is like a gun - the tower is the handle and you use your index finger to squeeze the trigger.

Another misconception that is floating out there is the lacing system. The story about it is instead of layering stiffeners upon leather and then putting eyelets on them, the APX2 system is actually one piece; made of the same material as the holder (not metal as someone said). Since it is a material that is flexible and provides rebound, it adds to the energy transfer story (coupled with the fact that there's no gaps in material as there is when it's made traditionally.) D-shaped eyelet holes help the laces to stay flat.
