Glove fit similar to Bauer Supremes

Recommended Posts

The Sherwood Nexon series fits like the previous gen Supreme gloves. The knuckle area is stiffer but overall isn't as nice of a glove though.

What other brands' lines offer a similar snug fit like the Supreme line?

Easton RS are super tight fitting, way too tight for my liking

This is a great question and topic. I too love the fit of the Supreme NXG glove. Not a fan of the palm though. Would hate to drop the $$$ only to send a new pair of gloves off to have them repalmed.

I thought that the NXG felt like a handcuff in the wrist when I tried it on in the store- no mobility whatsoever for being able to snag the bad passes headed toward my skates. No other glove felt as restrictive when I was at HM trying on every pair of gloves on the rack in Dec 2013. I did like the fit in the palm though- nice and wrapped like a regular glove.

Covert DTs have similar fit in the hand, but not as restrictive in the wrist. Nice and durable in the palm too.

Let me clarify. I loved the OLD supreme fit. I can't stand the new fit and that's why I started looking for something else. The NXG feels horrible on my hand.

That's usually how i describe both the Warrior and the Sherwood EK fit... Like a supreme in the hand and a vapor in the cuff.

Ah ok, I was wondering why anyone would want a fit like the NXG. I mean sure, some people are masochistic, or maybe have fond memories of being arrested and handcuffed, but I like freedom myself- in life, and with cuff mobility in the wrist. That being said, I am not thrilled with the cuff/ wrist mobility of my DT2s, I would say it is between NXG and Vapor. I do love the feel in the hands though with the DT2, the glove really feels like it is my hand. I have not yet tried the EK15, and will give it a shot. Also gonna try HSX and 30K.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm coming from One95s. My LHS mostly carries 4 rolls and few new vapor & Supremes. I'll look online for those models mentioned. The RSII or DT2 might work and save a few bucks.

If you're looking to save a few bucks, the old Nexon series is virtually the same fit as the EK.

I ended up switching to Warrior Luxes on clearance pricing because I couldn't find anything I liked as much as my Nike Bauer Supreme One90s. I didn't need new gloves, but I wanted to try something different & I got the Luxes for under $100 shipped. I really like them, but they are more of a Vapor fit (I think).

I found that too, I didn't care much for the Luxe because of it. The Koncept was a tighter hand but more like a Vapor cuff, which I fell in love with.

Eagle Talon and RS II

The new HSX are pretty snug fitting as well

Josh - how do you find wrist mobility in reebok 30k vs. Easton hsx? I tried on a pair of 30K the other day and they felt perfect in the cuff, not as tight in the hands as I like though. Is the HSX as mobile in the cuff as the 30K?

IMO, less, if not the same level.

I have large but not meaty hands, longer fingers, and liking 'old school' glove fit - snug to just before the wrist. I got some Vapor Pros and really like them. The hand is nicely snug without feeling restricted and then the glove opens nicely to give great wrist mobility - way better than the really old school gloves of the early 90's and earlier...

Like them much more than the 4 rolls (CCM & Bauer) I used before them.

Light, good cover over the wrist, good feel thru the palms and fairly quick drying after use. Given the materials, they should wash up nicely when the gunk starts building... have about 3 - 4 mos in them now and glad I got them...

The HSX has more mobility in the cuff than the 30K

Not a huge difference, but I tip the odds to the HSX

However, the 30K are a tad more snug fitting. And have a much better thumb than the HSX

Funny, I thought opposite (had a chance to try on 14 inch gloves in both)- I like how snug the HSX is in the fingers, and how it really tightens like a noose at the lower cuff. Mobility wise, I feel like the HSX is a bit restrictive. I should say, regarding cuff mobility, I find most gloves are all the same (except handcuff gloves like NXG), except in the backhand. So, I find most gloves to be 95% as mobile as I need them to be- the HSX is 95% mobile as well. There is always that little bit though where I get jammed up. That is where I love the 30K. In the one spot that I get jammed up with every other glove, the 30K is hyper mobile, due to their little band that they use to let the 2 parts of the backhand open up when the wrist hinges toward the backhand. However, the 30K feels loose in the fingers, maybe because it does don't taper in at the lower cuff like HSX, so it does not feel as snug. I like to be able to shake my wrists, and see that the glove does not move at all (except in perfect unison with my hand). I also like full range of motion in wrist mobility. Am I really asking too much, because I am yet to find. If I could just put the cuff (and I guess the thumb) of the 30K onto the rest of the HSX then I would be happy. Oh yes and I like to punch the glove as hard as I can on the backhand. If I do not feel it on the gloved hand, but the punching hand hurts, then the glove passes lol- very scientific, I know.

Regarding the thumb, I did not really assess, but helpful to know that the 30K is better. So, I gotta figure out which way to go, and clear out my glove collection in the meantime- I feel like my sister-in-law regarding how she is with her shoes.

You're looking for the 2010/2011 Warrior Projekt gloves (the 2012 versions are just a protective and tight through the fingers and back roll, but also have a tighter cuff). They meet all the criteria:

http://modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php/topic/56439-warrior-projekt-gloves/

You may still be able to find new old stock somewhere or find a pair that pops up on eBay. EDIT: seems like TSR has some in stock for $83: http://www.tsrhockey.com/browse.cfm/warrior-projekt-sr-hockey-gloves/4,882.html

Read through the reviews I linked to and take a look at the video JR made where he's hitting the backroll with a stick pretty hard and doesn't feel anything. I'll quote my own review regarding the fit and protection.

Warrior Projekt Gloves, 2011 model

Size: 14"

Time used: 2 years

Fit:

Snug through the back roll and fingers and open up at the cuff for excellent wrist mobility. I prefer this type of fit, but those who like a loose fit should look elsewhere. Due to the protective bone system and the rounded shape of the rolls, the back roll sits a little higher than most gloves and this adds a little bulk.

9.5/10

Protection:

The bone system (a combination of foams, plastics and a pocket of air) is used throughout the entire back roll and all the fingers. Some other gloves in the Warrior line, like the Luxe, also use the bone system, but they only use it through the mid-section of the back roll and fingers instead of the entire back roll and all fingers. The bone system does add a bit of outer volume as mentioned in the fit section, but also offers amazing protection. I’ve never used a more protective glove than the Projekts.

10/10

And here's what JR said after using the gloves:

This glove is probably the TIGHTEST glove I have worn, and that is not a knock on it. Which is crazy, because you simply don't feel any knocks on it.

Range of motion was excellent in the glove - and you have an absolute death grip on the stick. Really enjoying the cuff - was able to move my wrists without any problems. I took about 250 shots today with it (and the '11 Dolomite).

The only piece that restricts me on the 30K is the bottom of the wrist (Is there an official term for that?)

But as I said, it is a very small difference between the two.

The thumb on the Eastons is very stiff for a top-level glove, which I do not like.

I would choose the 30K if I had to choose between the two. But I'll just stick to my RS II's with cut thumbs for my tight fitting gloves :]

And here's what JR said after using the gloves:

Thanks for the tip althoma. These actually seem to be exactly what I am looking for. My only gripe is that the only option in 14 inch is black/ white. I see there is navy/ white left in 15 inch (I like how the navy looks). What do you advise I go with- 14 or 15 inch? I am 14 inch in:

-Bauer vapor apx/ apx2

-Easton HSX

-Reebok 30K

I wear 15 inch in:

-Warrior covert DT2 Bone X- as I have said before, I love how this glove wraps my hand (I suspect it is a fit similar to Projekt), and the finger length seems right (I tried on 14 inch but do not recall how the fingers were- I think that the fingers were fine in 14 inch- they just felt so tight in the hands that I was afraid I would bust through them- who knows though, they may have opened up with time). The tightness of the 14 did not bother me from a comfort standpoint, I was only concerned with durability. Cuffs are like handcuffs though- not as bad as NXG, but nowhere near as mobile as I would like.

With the finger length, I like the gloves to be just a bit longer than my finger tip so that my fingers are protected from slashes, but if there is too much glove at the end of my fingertips, then I feel like it stifles my stick handling as it just gives a sloppy feel overall to puck handling.

I am not concerned with the cuffs being too short, as I wear slash guards anyway.
