New Stick

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm looking for a new stick and will spend any amount of money. In my past sticks I loved the MX3 and hated the 1X. I'm a forward who tries to get fast snapshots off but loves to bomb the occasional clapper. I tend to shoot better with mid-kicks but have loved low-kicks too (Easton Stealth RS & RS II). I did not like the 1X because my shots were weak with it. I'd love to get the new MX3 LE but I have graphic problem (sorry I'm picky). Now, my question is on the new LE does it say Supreme MX3 in the middle of the shaft or top? Top being where Bauer is listed on the original MX3. I'm a Bantam who's only 5'3 and cuts my Intermediate sticks and does a long handle on top. I'm just hoping it says MX3 in the middle of the shaft so I don't tape over it. I will provide links after this post. Anyways, if it's not in the middle I'm looking at the QR1, is it durable? Does it have nice pop? And you guys can suggest other sticks if you can't figure out the MX3 LE graphic issue.

EDIT: Is the Stealth CX any good?

I'm not good enough to be able to tell the difference between models and brands so I admit a good part of my decision making process is looks.

When you worry more about aesthetics than performance then you are your own worst enemy.

Bingo

I don't know many carpenters that care what color the logo is on their hammer.

If I spend $260 on a stick I want people to know it's a $260 stick. How would they know if it's the MX3 or 170 LE?

I've used a Covert DT1 LT intermediate stick for the past year and I like it. DT1 LT is one generation behind QR1. I can take a pretty nice slapper with it, even though it's technically a low kick point stick. So you might like it, because it would work for both snap shots and slap shots. It will probably feel a little heavier compared to high-end Bauer sticks, but personally, I don't think stick weight matters that much as long as it's not too heavy. You get used to weight pretty fast.

The DT1 LT is on sale everywhere, but getting hard to find in certain flexes and patterns. I guess everyone is buying them up since this is the cheapest they will get before disappearing completely.

That's a crappy reason to spend 260 dollars. Also, starting to think you're a troll.

No it's not. I never said I didn't want performance either. I want people to know I'm not using a crappy stick I guess, how would I be a troll?

Just make sure you tell everyone. Have a notarized list of all your gear made up, and hand it out to opposing players every game. How else are they going to know what shin guards and shoulder pads you're wearing?

OP is a kid, not a troll.

Starzkyy, youre getting advice from a bunch of adults who've been there.

None of that name brand bullshit matters. The sooner you accept that, the happier you will be. If you never learn that, you'll be the miserable guy with the hot but bitchy wife, a house you cant afford, a boat youre making payments on because its the model bigger than your neighbor's, and your kids hate you because you work 70 hours a week to pay for it all and you drive your Porsche 150mph into a bridge abutment because you hate your life.

Buy gear that works, spend your money on ice time, be a great teammate, give back to your community, and help someone who needs it.

The choice is yours. Good luck!

Yeah, sorry, think I was a little cranky yesterday. Thanks for checking my negativity MTHockeyDad.

I still think that worrying about whether the MX3 logo shows on the stick is a little ridiculous, but if that's really your concern, just go with the regular version where it's printed all the way on the bottom of the shaft.

When I was 13 I was using a wooden VIC hockey stick with a curve I hated because my dad paid for it. I personally think that at age 13 it doesn't matter what stick you use because unless you're some early developed monster you aren't going to be able to even utilize the technogy the stick provides like an adult with strength and good technique.

The most important lesson is, what the stick costs shouldn't matter. I know kids and adult even that work out the guys with the top of the line gear and price point skill. My buddy has pro stock everything, custom APX2 skates that cost him $950.00 and he also has a Nexus 8000, 1X and MX3 for sticks...

He's not a bad player but he isn't good enough for his gear and people don't have good things to say about it.

If I see a 13 year old kid on the ice with all top of the line brand new stuff, especially skates and sticks I just think "spoiled brat". Having a 1x stick that you say you hate is all I need to know to tell you that you should humble yourself. It's not your fault that your parents are willing to spend $200 for your stick but it is your fault that you actually care that other people know it's a $200 stick.

FYI, most NHL players don't even use the sticks you think they are using. Patrick Kane for example has never used an APX/APX2 or 1X in a game. He uses an original Bauer Supreme TotalOne stick from 2010 painted like an APX2 and 1X. Players use and continue to use what they like even if it's older technology.

I in fact use a Nexus 1000. I could buy any stick I want but I keep trying to get these because it works and I like it more than the newest MX3, 1X and Nexus 8000 which I have used. Anyone that sees it knows that it's a 3 year old stick or doesn't even care. It scored 4 pretty goals for me just fine last night.

Thank you. Thanks everyone.

I think I'll be going with a Base Nasty R as it's $195. If not, I may or may not get a MX3, but you guys sure humbled me. Thanks.

It's more fun to beat people when you use crappy gear and they use top of the line stuff.

I like to have high end skates and stick though because it helps me perform better. Everything else I don't care really.
