P88 vs p28 stick length

Recommended Posts

I used to use a p88. Switched to e28/w28/p28 a few years ago. Would like to go back to p88

Should I cut my stick to same length or leave a little longer with the p88 type curve?

Length and curve isn't as much of a problem as lie and length. The p88 is a lie 6 and the 28 is a 5. Pending your stance type, you may need to cut a little off the 88. It all depends how the stick sits on the ice while you skate. If it's toe up, you may need to cut it or the lie may not be suitable for your playing style. Likewise, if there's primarily wear on the tape of the toe only, then the stick needs to be longer to offset the lie and stance. I hope that makes sense.

I use 2" shorter for the rockered toe curve, for the shots, than for the other types of curves.

They are both lie 5 sticks I don't care what anyone says but he is right, typically one must go shorter to correctly load/shoot a Kreps curve. The P88 is a more simplistic set up. You can always start little by little and see where you feel good at.

The P88 is not a lie 6. It may say lie 6 on the stick but a P88, P40, W88 is a lie 5

No it's not. The numbers really don't mater anymore but a Modano/Forsberg/e4/PM9 has been a baseline "lie 5" for almost 20 years, with the p88 having a higher lie than it. It's a 5.5 if anything, and the p28 lines up closer with the pm9 as being a few degrees lower.

Again. The P88 is not a lie 6. It may not be a PM9 lie 5 low but it's not a 5.5 either. You're not going to tell me that a Bauer P88 is the same lie as a Reebok P87a (lie 5.5) or P91a.

According to MSH's own database, the P88 is actually a 5.5. The E28 is a 5. While I hear your argument, if the Bauer print isn't right, is MSH's database wrong too?

Depends on where you measure and what scale you use. If you use Bauer scale, it's a 6, with Easton it's a 5.5 and with Warrior it's a 5. Everyone measures in a different way and you need to be specific about what scale you are using.

I have warriors in the pm9, p28, and p88 (the w88 I got was the lie 4 widow back when it was available in 4&5 lie) curves as well as a p87a. With the middle of the blade flat on the ice, the w01(pm9)is the lowest lie, followed by w28, w88 L4, then the p87a, which is only slightly higher than the w88

We used the same scale across the board when creating our chart, that's why the numbers may not match manufacturers in certain situations. Measuring with the middle of the blade down and level, regardless of where the heel and toe are.

I figured this much. I was more or less playing devil's advocate to the earlier comments about the data on the sticks being wrong. Thanks for clarifying what I thought.

As a side bar, if I may ask a question. I purchased a P45 (Tavares) CCM Superfast a few months ago. In the database, I noticed a C91 Tavares. Are the two the same within the database? I never found a 45 just a 46. I figured while I had you here, I would ask. Thanks for your help!

To be completely honest, I don't have access to that info right now. I will check into it and get back to you as soon as I can.

Bauer has the P88 at a lie 6 and a p92 at a lie 6. Owned probably 15 of each. The damn p88 isn't a damn lie damn 6 dammit. ESPECIALLY if the p92 is a lie 6.

The only thing worse than being wrong is being obnoxious.

You weren't saying I was wrong but you were saying I was wrong AND sounded like an asshat. Well get in line with everyone else's in America that gets offended by everything. I don't give a crap what Chadd says or if he's a moderator. The P88 is not a lie 6 and id say it to his face. I'd also compare resumes look him dead in the eye and smile. I don't care if you like what I have to say or agree with my opinions.

I think what's important here is that when you are wrong... It's important to double down. You know... Really let people know what's up.

But most of all... I really wish I had something better to do on a Friday night than to argue with somebody on the internet.

Thanx for the PM ... I appreciate that you want to turn this into a dick swinging contest, but it's late and I'm tired.

I'm sorry, there is nothing that I can do to assist with your reading comprehension issues.

I do. My P92 is shorter than the P45 and P38 CCM sticks I have. There's more blade on the ice with those sticks given lies and depth of curve. The 92 I cut shorter not only to have more blade on the ice, but I wanted to also try out how much of an impact a short stick made on my game.
