Easton Gretzky Aluminum

Who actually owned one of these? One of my team mates from a few years back had one and it felt like a pretty good stick. Anyone on this board own one? I have a regular Easton Aluminum but I'll still say the Gretzky one feels more consistent for some reason. (Sorry for anyone that wanted to bid on the stick)

In 98 he used the new paint shafts though (the ones that everything flaked off of) that looked like the classic and a/g series.

edit: if he hadn't moved to hespeler yet

I owned Easton Gretzky Aluminum. They were really cool when Gretzky used them. It was a great stick, very stiff for an aluminum shaft. I think Tom Poti of the NY Rangers was one of the last players to use it when he was with the Edmonton Oilers and Rangers.

I heard a story that easton gave shanahan about 200 aluminum shafts since they weren't going to make them anymore and he was the last guy that used them. I think there quote was "this should last you a while"

Isn't it funny how durable products are discontinued. When something will last 10 years, its hard for a company to make money, so make something less durible and you get repeat customers often.

I know right now if I had 100 aluminum shafts in the store, I would sell them all within a week. Many of my customers still use them, others want them.

I always wanted one of those, mostly for the looks. But they were kinda expensive, and most people used either the gold or silver aluminum Easton shafts instead (I don't know what the difference was other than the color, or if the chrome version was any different than the gold or silver versions). Personally I ended up with a Christian aluminum shaft instead (still have it)...

I also wanted one just for the looks. I can't express how much I wanted one when I was a kid, but my gut just wouldn't let me spend 100 dollars on a stick then.

It was way too tall and stiff for me anyhow, and I couldn't bear to mess it up. I'd love to have one to mess around w/ and one to have auto'd nowadays though.

They'd last forever, but they'd also loose stiffness and become really weird to use after a while. I have an ancient silvertip and it's no-where near as good as my flyweight. Supposed to be a 105 flex, but it feels like an 80 and there's just something missing on my shots when I use it.

I have had an Aluminum since '96, besides looking like it went to hell and back, I still use it everyonce and a while, mostly for outside. The thing is a tank, to bad its like a 200 flex, and weighs more then just about all my composite sticks combined, Sometimes I put my Focus Flex in it to mess around.................and it actually isnt that bad.

Shanny actually got 2,000, not 200 shafts from Easton. He bought out their entire remaining supply because they stopped producing them. The silver Gretzky shaft was great in its time. It was actually fairly light for an aluminum and lasted forever. I still have mine in the basement.

planned obsolescence, every manufacturer does this to make money.

I had the junior black one, then the gretzky, then the silver tip. loved them soo much

Ya, I owned a Canadien one and another one but I can't think of the name, it will come eventually though.

I have this aluminum shaft made by Franklin. It's supposed to be a street hockey stick. However, it's 48" and it's as hard as a rock.
