I agree that the PVD coating helps edge retention and does provide additional protection but I don't think it changes the glide, bite, feel, or sharpening. I am fairly certain blind testing would show 90% of players would not be able to tell the difference in a controlled environment.

I was in a similar situation trying to find skates that felt more like the old 90's style skates. I was in Graf 705's which were so comfortable but those began to fall apart (the holders were replaced so many times from cracking that the outsole began to deform and the materials started to dry out, being stored for a few years while I stopped playing didn't help either). First I tried an old pair of Bauer Supreme One75's which weren't bad (kind of wish they still made skates in that one90 style), then I had Bauer Vapor X700's, middle of the road Vapor but it felt way too stiff and felt like it was a really high cut on the sides. I then finally found something that felt like my old skates, CCM Ribcor 78K's. The Ribcor line is made to allow more flex than other lines (they have some fancy lingo for the "tech" that allows the boot to flex more), aside from that it felt like it had more ankle padding allowing for a really comfy fit similar to my old Grafs. I wouldn't hesitate to go and try on some of the Rbcor models, no need to get the 100k or 80k, like x-axis said, going mid tier will actually get you a slightly less stiff boot which will probably feel better to you.

I had a bunch of the first run of addictions do that back in the day. Labeda was great, sent me a new set and said by the way the wheels with the cracks should be fine. I used the wheels and despite the cracks, labeda was right they performed fine, wheels wore as usual otherwise, not really an issue.

Pat & Ken over at Custom Pro Repair in Montreal do amazing work, dunno if they're accepting non-pro orders right now though....

Carbonlite steel is terrible. It doesn't sharpen well and I have seen a lot of breakage. Pulse TI vs Pulse, they are both the same set of steel. The TI then has a PVD coating applied after polishing. They sharpen the same and feel the same on the ice. The PVD coating supposedly helps with better edge retention. I personally think its more for looks.

Millenniums always do that for me, you might be too heavy for them. Either way, serve that picture to Labeda and they will take care of it. They're great about this stuff

I can’t believe they did this, I hope all of the feed back they’re getting online assists them in reconsidering. Otherwise I plan to convert hyperlites.

Profile #3 - Quad II (7-10-13-16) on CCM Ribcore Titanium 9 1/2 size Steel - stock XS1 blade 280mm Hollow - 11/16'' About Me - I started playing/skating when I was 5 then played at good level until 13 in novice/minor leagues. Then stopped and played only maybe 8-10 times/winter at local public outdoor hockey rink just for fun until mid 30s.Then restarted in beer league at 35. Now in my late 30s. I'm a forward. I'd say a good skater and a tad faster then average skaters. Almost 6' tall and 185lbs Review - Before Quad II, I tried CAG one 30-65 (or 35/65 cant remember), then 9' single radius, then Quad 0.5. I didn't like the CAG BTW. overall the Quad II is my favorite so far. The balance is better than Quad 0.5 imo. I feel a little bit more forward pitch which I like. But difference in balance is minimal. The gilde and mobility are the things that are improved vs the 0.5. Way easier to initiate turns with the quad 2. And shorter/faster turns are easier to do with it. With the Quad 0.5, I felt more resistance while trying to do quick turns. As far as glide/speed, you can also feel top speed is higher and less fatigue during a game. Skating backwards felt similar to quad 0.5 but I'm not a defense man so didn't spend a lot of times backwards. Played one game with 3/4 ROH. Felt I missed a little grip in some situations. So the day after, I had the skates sharpened to 11/16. Maybe lost a bit of glide but felt more dialed to ice. I think I will end this season (until June) with 11/16. Acceleration - 4 Mobility - 4.3 Stability - 4 Speed - 4.5

I think there are a bunch of pics on his facebook page. This is the pair of Team USA Nike gloves. Went with gray palms to match the underarms of the jerseys that year.
