I think going to a good shop with patient and experienced employees is the best thing you can do at the outset. Later you can start buying online (SidelineSwap is AWESOME). I find that I spend an average of an hour fitting players for protective gear if they need multiple items. My recommendation is not to lock yourself into any one brand and choose with your eyes closed. There's always a mobility/protection trade-off, but if you're patient, you don't have to give up too much of either. I would take all the marketing with a grain of salt. For example CCM markets Jetspeed as mobile and Tacks as protective. FT6 Pro pants are more protective (IMO) than AS-V Pros. It's more important that your gear fits properly and accommodates your individual mechanics than what the catalog says. Try as many brands and families as you can and put together a package that works for you. When I have kids that I coach who come with stuff that's not right for them. Often they've made decisions with their eyes. They got what they thought looked cool, or it's what Connor uses, or the coach said to get it, or the blurb online was convincing. All that matters is that it fits you correctly and works with your mechanics. Anyway...that's my opinion. Good luck!

I've been in 100k's since right about when they launched. Whats that, almost three years?? Anyway, I play 2-3 times a week year round. I have had zero issues with the boot or the holder. The only issue I've experienced was a broken runner which was under warranty and quickly replaced. I saw that pic too. I think it was just one of those things.

adult female player here. I switched to a girdle about 6 years ago and I'll never go back to regular pants. I like the Bauer wrap-style girdles. I can adjust the waist and thigh sections as tight or as loose as I want. if you have the chance, check out some Stark MFG equipment: https://starkhockey.com/collections/women-s one thing I've always hated about Bauer women's gear is their ridiculous sizing: WOMENS X-W PANT XS 12+ YEARS 90-110LB 4'7"-5'1" 24-27" S 12+ YEARS 100-130LB 4'11"-5'5" 26-29" M 15+ YEARS 120-150LB 5'3"-5'9" 28-31" L 15+ YEARS 140-170LB 5'7"-6'1" 30-33" this would put my SO, who weighs around 135 in a large. seriously?

Mine are heavily used and holding up fine, as are the AS3 PROs. I will say that modern pro-level gear seems tuned more towards performance rather than durability. I do find it fascinating that we get skates in for sharpening and/or repair that look like they were pulled from a car wreck while others look lightly used. Same model skate...similar ages...similar usage. I'm an example. I skate 5-6x week between coaching and my games. I play D, block shots, bang in front of the net and in corners, and my skates look clean. Not new but not trashed. Could it be weight related (I'm 5'9" 168)? I do pull my footbeds after every skate but do nothing to the outers. I'd like to understand why this is.

It depends. Sometimes yes and sometimes no. An example would be this pair I am selling online that has some upgrades but very few modifications to the actual fit of the skate: https://sidelineswap.com/gear/hockey/skates/6508133-ccm-ribcor-100k-pro-stock-hockey-skates

I've had 100k Pro's for about 8+ months now and they have been great. I skate twice a week as a 45 year old beer leaguer, who is 6'4 and 230 lbs and I can put them through their paces pretty well. So far they have been holding up great. They fit me like a glove and frankly are the best fitting skate I have ever owned. I hope they continue to last bc I really do like them. For the record I also tried on the AS-V Pros in various sizes and widths and skated in the one pair that fit me best. Unfortunately, it was like skating in ski boots, just way too stiff for my liking. The 100K's are incredibly comfortable and plenty stiff with just a enough give to make me feel proper while skating.

I personally prefer to seal the old holes and then drill out the new holes. Too many stores try to use whatever lines up and the holders end up twisted. If you do it properly, it not that big of a deal.

I have had multiple pairs since launch day and would rank their durability as a B+ overall. Because the boot is solid gloss black and the graphics are minimal, it will show every single imperfection, much like if you have a black colored car. Overall the boot and liners are very durable. If you can find a pair of Pro Stock, that would be ideal, since those usually have the upgraded liners (clarino) and extra padding too.

It does make it whippier. People that want to argue just because it doesn't technically change "flex" is bc flex ratings are tested at the exact same points on a stick so it doesn't change the "flex rating" at for example, 50 inches from the heel. But when you and I talk about how a extending or shortening stick changes the flex, we obviously mean the perceived flex at the very butt end of the stick and our bottom hand.
