It's funny, I'm at a point now where I'm telling the OTHER goalie "great save!" or "man, nice glove..." when he comes up with a big stop. I also understand a bit better what its like for our goalie as well. I stopped a slapshot with my stick last night about 6' from the net, and I just hear from behind me "DAMN IT JONES!" and I'm like oh crap, sorry man... A few years ago I would have been oblivious to why he'd be upset about me sticking my stick out to stop a shot...

After 26 hours, I'm finally home.

I would expect the answer to be yes to both questions. Just email them, they respond pretty quickly -
Nope, never saw a need. Makos have flex where you need it and stiffness where you want it.
-
Yup, agreed.

I couldn't even get them on my feet until they were baked. Even unlaced completely, I still couldn't.

All of the tech labs I built for the students in my class in Brazil failed spectacularly, and looks like I'm going to be taking a lot of shit for it.

Those pants are amazing.

Okay cool. Maybe I'll still send them a message about it. I never had a bump there before, and I never noticed that that toe does stick out a bit, until I bought my first adult hockey skates. Easton SE2 or something like that. They had this nice rough area on the inside where the stitching attached the toe cap to the rest of the skate. Since then it hurts almost any time anything touches it. Even in some of my dress shoes I have to wear the silicone sleeve on my toe (the 'cheap' ones... the good shoes have conformed to my feet and are as comfortable or more comfortable than sneakers now). -

Did you ask for the gel/protectant or did they just do it for you? -
"Inglês?" has become my most used phrase at this point. Heh. I have "Alo" app on my Apple Watch, which will translate my speech and actually speak the translation, but it can be slow because the 3G is slow as crap here. Should have bought a translation book, even a really basic one. But at the same time, my boss told me everyone here speaks English. That's why I didn't prepare at all. But they definitely do not. Oh well. Most of the other places on my list will. (South Africa, Australia, Sweden, Germany, Amsterdam, London are all on my list) Even in places like Germany people will usually speak some English. The ones I said no to were Pakistan, China, Japan and Mexico.

Yup. I'm okay if I have one of the guys I'm teaching with me who can translate but I'm screwed if I'm alone. I feel like a child or somebody who is mute because everything waiters say to me I have to look at him, he repeats in English, and I just nod yes or no. Oh well, only here until Friday.

My only worry is my big toe on my right foot has a bump on it. I have to wear a silicone sleeve on it with my Reactors or it's horrible. No issue in my Makos though. He said they'd build the last around it so it shouldn't be an issue. Can't wait. -
Boss told me everyone in Brazil speaks English and sent me here for a week. Boy was he ever wrong. The guys here said almost nobody does unless they work in tourism (hotel, airport, some cabs, and some restaurants). I feel so helpless...

Nobody was making it into a show it off thread. It was a relevant reply to a relevant question. -

Order placed :D -
You can buy them online from almost anywhere that sells Brians (Total Hockey or GoalieMonkey both have them). They're fantastic. Being elastic they just stretch as much as they need to. Some have had issues with the velcro coming undone, but I have not. Attachment to the pad is cake, just uses the same cord that gets used in most of the rest of the pad. I'm sure you could use skate lace too if you wanted.

If you hate toe ties, change to the Brians toe straps :D Sounds like you're loving the new pads!

Sure, but I mean theres a lot of room for error in just simple things like at what angle you have your pen at when tracing, etc. At what point does the heat moldability start to compensate for some imperfect measuring? Within 1/8"? Obviously the more accurate the better. -

I wonder just HOW accurate the tracings really need to be. -

I just got an email back from them: "Two liners - our tan clarino is our most popular. It is antimicrobial, and very durable. The black wicking liner is great if you play barefoot or sweat a ton." I think I'll probably go with the clarino, just because that seems to be what works for them and their customers. Since I don't care either way, I'll just go with their recommendation. They also said the comfort edge and lundqvist loops are both standard, and they CAN make a maltese gel tongue though it will be quite thick. I'll just go with the stock one and change it if I want/need to (yay easily changeable tongues!) -

I'm debating whether I want the tan clarino or black wicking liner... Can anyone who has VH skates provide recommendations? I'm also thinking of the stiffer tongue. Since its a goalie skate it's really just an anti-lacebite consideration more than an actual flex thing. -
Not a great night. Lost 2-1 in the last minute in the first league game of the season. Unfortunately there's no footage of the first goal against due to the GoPro falling down. Basically it was a rising shot that went off my shoulder and right to a guy who had a pretty wide open net. Pretty crap to lose in the last minute like this...
