Much more like Brodeur, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm going to take some video from various angles this weekend so you guys can see what I'm doing wrong :)
-
Yes they have smart straps only (the Gnetik 5.0 has both, I think). I've been playing with the tightness of the straps and my issue is that I'm not really sure how tight or loose things should be (because I've never worn pads with normal straps) but once I get it where I lik it I think I'll really like the smart straps. Toes point outward like they should, I just have a tendancy to open my legs when I go down so I have a good foot between the top edges of my pads in the butterfly. I also seem to have trouble with the pads not going back into place properly when I stand back up.
-
Thanks, but I was talking about WITH the pads on.
-
Thanks, but I already got them :)

Thats cool. I asked the local rink about private 1-on-1 instruction and they said it was $50/hr. That's a price that's pretty easy to swallow; I was expecting it to be much more. I'll do 3-4 sessions of that just to get some fundamentals once I have the rest of my pads, and then try the beginner pickup (tuesday nights its an hour of drills and then an hour of pickup, all meant for beginners). In the meantime, stretching, stretching, and more stretching.

There were a number of guys in my officials seminar that were required to attend by their team so they can understand the other side. Brilliant idea, imo.
-
They have a pretty strict "no hockey equipment" rule during public sessions (even when they're totally dead during the middle of the day). Maybe I'll see what the policies are at the other rinks that are semi-local.

Holy crap! Price drops!

Ah, great idea. I'll try that, and post it. Oh yes, I'm 100% sure my flexibility is bad. VERY bad. Maria Mountain videos are fantastic and I'll be trying her stretches out. Ah! haha okay then. I'll keep looking but even this one isn't half bad, if dated.

The part I'm now having the most difficulty with is that the butterfly position is kind of uncomfortable. It's an awkward movement, I have a good foot of space in the 5-hole, and it kinda hurts my knees when I go down. I should mention this is while on skates (with guards on) at home, as I don't yet have all my gear to be able to even consider hitting the ice. Maybe my mechanics are bad. Does anyone have suggestions on videos or something that shows the fundamentals? Unfortunately starting this as an adult there isn't a whole lot of practice opportunity and I'm not sure jumping right into pickup is the best idea either. Is the ProHybrid series any good? Does it go over fundamentals or does it assume you already know the basics?

When I did my ref seminar I noticed every time I bent over to pick up a puck I had a line of sweat right down the middle of my visor. I don't know why I didn't put my no sweats in that helmet. -

Get some No-Sweats. Amazing. -
The amount of junk calls and emails I get when I use sites like that is astonishing. Sure, I'd love to do a 3 month contract on the other side of the continent for half what I'm making now, absolutely! I'm a firm believer that real jobs aren't found on Monster/Dice/etc (at least not in the IT world). New vent: Just bought my goalie mask from IW yesterday afternoon, and now they just sent me an email with their Labor Day 20% promo code. Dammit, guys!

Where are you located?

Ouch.
-
They're all listed as Buy It Now, so same price as on here except $5 extra for shipping on eBay.
-
No need, all the same items are already available in this thread. Heh UPS wouldn't even take sticks wrapped in bubble wrap. They wanted $80 per stick to ship. USPS on the other hand took the bubble wrapped sticks happily for $7/ea

Well I tried my first game without my neoprene sleeve on my ankle in probably a year. No luck, still mako bumps. Oh well, I'll just keep wearing the sleeve I guess. It's no hassle, I just wanted to try.
