Sort of, it was a bit of a bad description. You know the motion I'm talking about though. Both hands come together (or often one hand on the stick) trying to reach out and chip the puck past the guy. It's not like I tried a forceful chop at his stick or anything. I tried to find a good photo of the play I'm talking about but couldn't really find anything good. This was the best I could find: Imagine I'm Karlsson and I take a horizontal swing at the puck just trying to chop it past Seguin. It's not like I was angry or hacked at him or anything.

they make my butt look FABULOUS, thank you.

So the guy Whos stick I slashed in my last game as I mentioned in a previous post... He plays pickup with us on Tuesday nights. He took slap shots at my head all night, regardless of whether he was at center ice or 6 feet in front of me. Even from the bad angle along the goal line... Big windup and high slapper. I guess he's still mad at me. Though you'd think he'd try to score on me rather than just shooting it right at the guy wearing massive padding. *shrug* Like I said, goalie is calming for me. Definitely not going to let THAT kind of nonsense get to me when I have to focus on making saves. I'd really have put this in the sweet spot thread if I hadn't been referencing the earlier post. Zen... Calm... Have to make saves. Stay focused. I had a pretty good pickup session actually :)

Hey now, we get about a month where it drops under 60F consistently and rains.

I love summer. I love the sundresses that go with summer even more.

Finish a 40 page network assessment for a company. "Hey, can you convert this into a powerpoint to present to management?" Uh, sure. It's not like I have 3 other projects due this week or anything. Let me go ahead and waste a day on this.

Other than higher shipping charges, but that's reasonable. -

Hmm now would be a good time to order then :) -
Yup. Every time it goes in you have to think about what happened to allow that to go in. Of course then there are the goals that were just great shots or a fantastic pass or whatever. I don't even count those in my head when I play pickup. I only count the goals i should have had.

Probably contributes to it ;)

Hell, at least you have a coach! :) Keep at it, and if the other guy got lit up after switching teams you know it wasn't YOUR fault :)

Heh sorry, "right on" just sounded dismissive. Yea, I need to either take the summer off or figure out a way to reduce work stress. Almost everything makes me angry. Seriously just about everything.

Odd reply.

2: Slashing. Battling in the corner and the guy had body position and I had to chip the puck past him so I swung at it like an axe (you know the motion, when you're really reaching just hoping to get a piece of the puck). Actually got puck but hit stick too. 2: unsportsmanlike. Told the ref this league was a f**king joke, bulls**t call, yadda yadda. 10: abuse of official. Told the ref to go f**k himself, called him an a**hole, after he decided he was going to start talking back after the unsportsmanlike. We found out just before the game that one of our players was being disallowed from taking part in the playoffs because he was too good. He was completely eligible (played the min number of regular season games). This is also in the league where there are teams where the entire team is being moved up a division because they hit double digits in almost every game they played. But one of our guys wasn't allowed to play... Totally fed up with this league. Anyway, the game started to get ridiculous. They even had one guy who would wind up with a slapshot from the neutral zone, not even aiming for the net. He was aiming at our players. I just had enough. It was a single-elimination playoff game, we were losing with zero momentum and they were still pulling that crap. I'd just simply had enough. Anyway. No excuse for what I said, no matter how much I think he deserved it. Which is why I think it's time to take time off. Work is kicking my ass and it's clearly affecting me. Luckily goalie is the exact opposite for me, it's very calming. Kind of a zen thing out there.

2+2+10+Game (and in our league, game = suspension). I think it's time to at least take the summer off, work stress is obviously getting to me.

I guess I'm done playing hockey, as a skater at least.

Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
IPv6Freely replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
For me I'm looking at it as though it will do my weekly sharpening so I always have a fresh edge, but also understand that doesn't mean I won't likely have to take it to a shop if I get any deeper nicks in the blade, etc. As a really poor analogy, it's like buying a vacuum for your house to do the weekly cleaning, but hiring somebody to come in with a steam cleaner when necessary. I've already backed it. If it works well, then great. If it sucks, then it sucks. Wouldn't be the first crappy Kickstarter project I've backed. But, it's worth a shot and I'm happy to support a friend. -
Welcome back!!

Not doing too bad in my first season playing goal: http://icetowncarlsbad.hockeyshift.com/stats/player/42/91/league//34227

Yea, totally true. Instead of skating in and taking a shot, they skate in, fumble with it, guys swing away at it, it goes off 3 different players skates in front of the net and goes in. All the while I'm being screened by my own defencemen! The one thing I have noticed though at lower levels is that players have zero confidence in the backhand, which makes reading dekes a bit easier... you can almost cheat a little bit to their strong side knowing theres little chance they're going to try to go back to the backhand. And even if they do, they aren't skilled enough to get it out to the side very far and it becomes a fairly easy pad save.

New mitts. CCM 4-Roll Prime 13" Black/white My EK15s were getting REALLY smelly (never had that before, my gear has never had any smell to it) and decided to try something different. I ordered these, some CL500s and some Bauer Nexus thinking if the CL500s don't fit right I've been wearing tight gloves for a long time and figured it was worth trying something on the other end of the spectrum. The CL500 felt WAY too small. Easily could have gone to a 14". The Nexus were big and floppy as I expected, but these 4-Roll Prime gloves were somewhat tight in the hand but insanely comfortable. It's also nice because they're half the price of the Nexus 800 and CL500s. Will be sending those back today :)

It's a lot of fun, I actually prefer it over skating out at this point. I also stopped him on another breakaway with a minute left :) That's actually a pretty good idea. Though this isn't a normal league, this is a true beginner "league" (really just two teams who play each other every week). We have coaches and non-USA Hockey refs. Really good for learning the game.

Won 3-2 last night. Only two goals I let in were by the guy who wasn't on their roster and was literally skating circles around everyone. Literally. Really bugs me that in a beginner league they would let this guy play because they "were short" (they "only" had 9 skaters). This is a league where we only started doing face offs two weeks ago and only started doing penalties this week. Some guys had never put hockey gear on until two months ago.
