  1. I've had a red CCCP tretiak jersey in my bookmarks for ages. I need to just say screw it and buy it. And heck, I'm Canadian yet I'd STILL wear it.
  2. We have similar during our pickup. Single siren after 1:30 (change after the next play) and a double siren after 2:00 (change now if not already done). Pickups have two lines at two different skill levels so they do this to to make sure you don't have the two skill levels against each other. Works out really well.
  3. I've never heard of keeping score at pickup before, but regardless I think these are awesome!
  4. Keep in mind makos don't fit anything like other Easton skates. Also, they're so heat moldable they should work on just about any foot.
  5. Nothing official yet (and not sure if they've decided on the process yet. It may very well be an invite-only thing. However they said the goal (assuming they get fully funded) is for it to cost nothing. You just have to pay for your own airfare to Argentina.
  6. I'm so close I can feel it... Hoping to try skating next weekend. Just a public skate, since I'm still not allowed to play hockey because of the blood thinners no matter how good my ankle feels. But just a couple laps would make me SO happy right about now. Also I got a message from Passau saying my new pads should be on their way late this week or early next week. Woooo!!!
  7. 10 weeks since the break. The last two weeks haven't been easy but definitely saw improvement. My first thought when he said I had to walk on my ankle was "no way. There is NO way that's going to be possible..." But I hobbled around, with a cane for support, for the first week of work without my iWalk. It got better and better every day. By the time I hit Sunday, I was walking without the cane, and without pain. However, I think I ended up over-doing it and had a lot of pain in my heel all this week. Not in the ankle at all, but right in my heel. A friend of mine (in his final year to become a physical therapist) said it was likely a mild case of plantar fasciitis. He suggested I do the "scrunch up a towel with your toes" exercise. I told him that was in the list the doctors gave me but I didn't feel like I had any loss of range of motion in my toes so I skipped it. Apparently the doctors knew what they were talking about... go figure. Maybe it's just me who has this issue, but it seems like if the doctors would just explain something instead of just saying to do it, I'd have an easier time with all of this. If the first doctor had said "you need to walk on it because you need stress on it for the bone to fuse" would have gone a long way. If the instructions would say "this is for strengthening the plantar fascia and not actually anything to do with your toes", that would have been helpful. Shrug. Anyway, the doc a few weeks back said he wanted me out of the boot and in a shoe with the ankle brace a week before I came back. That's today. So, I hobbled off to work with my shoe and brace, with my cane (again mostly just for balance, and a tiny bit of support until I get comfortable). Surprisingly, it's significantly less painful all around to be walking on a shoe. I'm guessing because my ankle and toes are able to flex through the step instead of being immobile. I imagine I'm going to need my ice pack tonight, though. (I have one of those WONDERFUL shock doctor ankle ice packs I got way back in the day when my old goalie skates would hurt my inner ankle. It has gel ice packs that go on both sides of the foot, as well as the top of the foot. It's AMAZING. Highly recommended!) Anyway... the end is near(ish)!
  8. Sold chest protector and neck guard. Just the flyers shell and a bunch of socks left!
  9. Back to back champs!! We had a strong start, 8-1 to start the season. Then a weak second half, going 3-8 with two of those wins in a shootout. Won the last game of the season, beat our bitter rivals in the semis, and won 4-3 in the finals. Sadly, I was not on the ice for most of the last half or either playoff game. I still made sure to get to every game though. After the game was over and the championship was won, there was the usual celebration, then the handshake line, and then immediately a couple guys came to help me out onto the ice for the trophy raising and team photo. That meant a ton to me that that was their first thought. Next week starts the road to the three-peat. Sadly, I'm still off the ice for about another month at the least, and until the end of the calendar year at the most. Hopefully closer to the former ;) Today feels weird without this beard....
  10. Shame SJ didn't work out for me. I would have had about 3 months worth of sharpening on the blades that you did for me initially. So it would have been a really good comparison.
  11. I especially loved that in addition to the manual, there were videos for each step. Can't wait to get my hands on the sparx gauge.
  12. I would hope that they would refund if you don't play... that's a bit ridiculous.
  13. I have the opposite. I have one calf with muscle and the other just jiggles.
  14. No, because there's no difference with goalie sharpening (unless you do A-Trap or whatever). There's just the height adapter. I just use two different hollows. My goalie skates are 1/2" radius and my player skates are a 3/8 FIRE ring (FBV)
  15. Hah, I suppose that's another option!
  16. Team won last night against our bitter rivals, putting us in the championship for the second season in a row. I hated not being on the ice but I was happy to be there. I had planned on suiting up for the championship, even as a skater, and sitting on the bench for the game but unfortunately I don't think that's likely at this point. The guys I'm sure would be more than happy to help me out there but I'd prefer to walk out there on my own.
  17. Playoffs tonight for my team. Unfortunately I'll be sitting in the stands for this one. Sigh.
  18. I got mine about three months ago. Used it on both my player skates and my goalie skates. They use different cuts, so I have one ring for each set. I couldn't be happier. I'm looking for convenience and consistency, and I get both with this machine. Unfortunately I broke my ankle 8 weeks ago, so I haven't had the chance to use it again since the first couple weeks :(
  19. 7 weeks, 5 days since the break. Doc says ankle isn’t healing because I’m not walking on it enough. Told him that only became bearable a few days ago. He would have none of it. Seeing him in another 3 weeks. He said he wants me walking out of the boot (just the brace) in 2. I asked for a note for a temp handicap permit. He said “3 weeks ago, sure. Now? No.” Awesome. FML.
  20. Saw ortho again today. FML.
  21. It's a bit much in my opinion. The best thing about the older Nexus skates was how traditional looking they were.
  22. I've started trying to walk. Sort of. Still have the stupid boot on, and certainly can't take anything close to a full stride. Bad foot 6 inches forward, bring good foot beside it, repeat. The biggest problem im having right now is that the foot and ankle of my good leg is starting to hurt now just from over use. So much for getting back to normal in 8 weeks... I'm already into week 8.
  23. Anderson is a bit better of a situation as it was a bit of a toss up between him and Gibson for who was the better goalie. Like the Elliot and Allen situation. Martin Jones was an exception to rule though. But realistically goalies are always going to be a crapshoot. Really depends on a lot of things including the squad in front of them. I don't think anyone would have suggested Schneider wasn't good enough to be a number one, but instead he's floundering and Luongo is the one playing really well. Goalie moves like this are always going to be a "wait and see" thing. Impossible to predict.
