Well, I can sort of walk. Like a pirate...
 -
	I don't get it.

I was at my league game (D5) last night in my splint and crutches. Somebody from the other team came up to me and was like "what happened to you?" I said "got jumped in rookie league." "Oh, man. Never do rookie league!" Starting to agree. Seems the higher level you go the less horseshit that goes on. I missed skating out (switched to full-time goalie last year) so I figured rookie league was thursday nights, which is great, and it might be fun to just get out and have a skate without really giving a damn. I also mistakenly thought it might be fun to for once be in the upper range of skill level in a league (since I've always been in the lower half), but it seems to do nothing but put a huge target on your back. Never again. If I want to skate out, I'll hit a pickup.

I was skating out so I didn't bother. Yea, video would have been a good thing.
 -
I think the moral of the last few posts is to avoid rookie leagues... Heh.
 -
Sadly no more updates or videos from me as I'm out for a few months with a broken ankle :(
 -
Jeans that fit over my splint, team jersey on, crutches digging into my underarms. Ready to go see some Ackbar's Admirals hockey!
 -
Thanks. Everything I'm reading is about 8 weeks before the cast will come off and then another 8-10 weeks until I'm back on skates. But we'll see what they say when I go in Wednesday to have the cast put on. if I need surgery it could be significantly longer.

Broken ankle. Season over. Also missing out on GGSU Legends Camp. Also starting a new job next month on crutches. Keeping in mind this is from my perspective... Ran into a guy right off the face off, both of us went down. Basically I pushed the puck past him and went straight for it. We got up, and I guess he didn't like getting run into like that and jumped me from behind, ankle twisted on the way down. All I felt was pain in the ankle. Tried to get up to knock the fucker out but collapsed trying to put weight on it. Only barely noticed the pummeling to the back of the head while I was face down on the ice because the pain in my ankle was so bad. I pretty much had to just lay there with my face on the ice waiting for him to either stop punching or to be pulled off me. Im told there was actually two guys on me. I'm guessing the first guy that basically jumped me, and likely the other guy was the one punching the back of my head. Anyway, I couldn't stand up so I had to be carried off (skating on one foot propped up by two players). I should also mention they also had a 3rd idiot that left the box while it went down. Sent a rather unpleasant email to the league director about it. He said he would talk to the refs and the timekeeper and some of the more respected players on both teams to find out what happened. Couple hours later he said they've both been suspended but he hadn't decided for how long and told me to keep him updated on my condition. Went to urgent care this afternoon, and they took X-Rays that confirmed a broken ankle. Put a splint on it and sent me home on crutches. Will be going in likely Tuesday for a cast. I told him and he said thanks and that he'd let me know the outcome. A couple people have suggested I press assault charges but I don't think I'd get far there, nor do I really want to be "that guy".

Yea mine just slid a little bit too, at first. Eventually I'd pull out the footbed and the toe end of it would be curled. But your footbed should definitely not be sliding at all so I'd go ahead and try something a bit stiffer if I were you. -

I stopped using the yellow foot beds because they kept sliding forward and bunching a tiny bit in the toe box. It was causing me to curl my big toe while skating, and I could barely walk the day after games because of the pain in my foot. Replaced with my custom SIDAS inserts (which I don't find any better than my super feet but whatever) because they're very rigid. Problem went away immediately. I left the red insert in, though, to not mess with volume. -
	Inlaws finally going home today.

+1 for Passau, especially the model with the Maltese gel

Usually, or slightly further. I kept being told in this thread and on the other site I post these that I need to come out further. Ever since I started trying that I've been getting lit up. I'm going back to where I'm comfortable.

That's actually a picture of JR holding my skate, so it's his gauge :) I do need to get one though.

Awesome! This is fantastic. -
I have the $500 "LATTISSIMA TOUCH BLACK". It's paid for itself in 6 months in starbucks savings, and is way WAY better than Starbucks (not that that's hard to do). Not as good as what you'll get at a real shop with baristas that actually know what they're doing, but for having a cappuccino whenever I want for $0.70 (plus milk cost) ends up being totally worth it. I look at the Sparx the same way. To be able to pop in a skate and press play and walk away for $1.25 each time is worth it in both money and time savings, for me personally! Then again, this is how awesome my local pro shop is at sharpening!
 -
Though some of the higher end Nespresso machines are pretty decent! :) Certainly not $10,000 machine levels of quality, but good enough for the convenience of it. There's also something to be said for convenience in sharpening, too. For me, if this thing works "pretty well" its likely still better than the pro shop at the rink (they're terrible). That means I'll actually have regular sharpenings because I won't have to go out of my way to go to another city to have them sharpened, and that means I won't have the whole "I haven't sharpened my skates in two months and now that I just did, I'm falling all over the place because I'm not used to it" thing going on. So, in my case, it's not worth it to take it to the professionals if I can get a decent sharpening in my own home with a decent level of consistency. Also worth mentioning that there's no FBV in my area, so I'd been doing mail-order sharpening for my player skates. The sharpening plus round trip shipping was about $15 total every time. $500/15 = 33 sharpenings before the machine pays for itself, even before the first ring is even used up. Then from there the savings become massive. $50 for a new ring is a $550 savings compared to mail-order for 40 sharpenings.. Of course, my time is worth something too (in the case of my goalie skates that I don't send away). Everyone's situation is different of course :) Like I said, I'm not sure I could justify $800 for this thing, but $500 is a whole other story. For $800 I'd probably just buy an X01 and learn to use it.

You know you're in Canada when the reporter can actually skate. -
Let's play a game. See if you can determine the exact moment where I gave up.
 -
Really? Ouch. That's pretty hard to justify.
 -
Just really really suck at this. 15 goals in two games followed by a 1.5 hour pickup where I made maybe 5 saves.
 -
	I give up.
 -
	Fantastic looking skates.
