Quick question: low profile shoulder pads
JSK81 replied to GoalForFun's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
1X won’t be any lower profile than Supremes, in fact the caps are quite thick and big. I had the Easton pro 10 shoulders and they’re very close to the Supremes. CCM U+ pros are probably the lowest profile high end pads out there, they can still be found on Ebay occasionally. I’m currently using the QLTs and I like them a lot. -
Quick question: low profile shoulder pads
JSK81 replied to GoalForFun's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
While very low profile, they probably don’t offer the same protection as the old Synergy shoulder pads he has 🙂 -
Got the Super Tacks a couple of weeks ago for a price I couldn’t pass up. Been very happy with them so far.
-
I’ve seen loads of those at a local sports chain store too. If you like the QRL that’s a good deal, although claiming the “normal” price is 349€ is just stupid of them. And yes, that stick is a Covert QRL painted as Alpha QX.

These definitely belong in here...

CCM Ribcor Trigger ASY 75 flex P28 & custom toe curve Grip Time used: 6 months About me 36 years old, pure recreational sniper. I love to get my shots off as quickly and unpredictably as possible and I've always preferred lower flex low kick sticks with toe curves. I'm easy on my sticks and take care of them. Looks The Trigger is a very clean looking stick. Black base with a white CCM logo on the lower part transforms into a green transparency on the handle to show the carbon texture. Blade One of my favorite things about this stick. It's got a nice soft feel which makes it very easy to catch passes with and helps with puck handling but at the same time it's stiff enough to get that really good pop for snap shots. As you'd expect from a top end stick the blade doesn't open up and shooting is extremely consistent. Shaft The Ribcor series has a traditional, square shaft shape - another spec I prefer. It has a great, tacky grip with some texture that helps a lot with shooting. Flex feels true and it's easy to load. The lower part obviously has the concave shape with the pre-loaded fiber tech. Weight While it's not the lightest stick on the market, it's extremely well balanced and close enough to the other top of the line sticks. Shooting Here's where the stick really excels. It's very easy to get a good, accurate shot with the Trigger; great pop and kick with every kind of shot even with minimum effort. I rarely take slap shots but it works fine for them too. It suits my playing style perfectly. Durability So far the stick has held up perfectly. Like I said I'm easy on my sticks but there will always be some slashing and hacking involved. Haven't noticed any deterioration in performance either, shots are as hot as on the first time I used it. Blade is crisp without cracks or splits. Overall The Trigger has stolen my heart. It's got everything I look for in a stick from the square shaft shape to the tacky grip and soft feeling blade. It's very consistent and easy to shoot with, feels balanced and light and I feel it just makes me a better player overall. The blade has held up very well with only some minor surface scratches. Hosel has a couple of inevitable dings, but only on the finish. Grip has actually started to wear off after all the use.

At last week's pick up one of the guys fell into the boards head first. I was on the bench when it happened, didn't see it that well. The others went to see if he's ok and after a moment they yelled for someone to call an ambulance and started performing CPR. Ambulance came fast, the crew started treating him and after a while they took him to the hospital. A couple of days later I heard he was still on life support with a severe neck injury. Then came a message that they had woken him from the narcosis and told him that he had suffered a broken C2 and severed spinal cord resulting in quadriplegia and he probably had days, maybe weeks left. He passed yesterday.

Thermablades, not T-blades. Different product.

Yes. Ramonedge is a Finnish company. They're quite popular with the Finns playing in NHL.

Easton Pro elbow pads Size Medium Time used: 2 years Fit / mobility 10/10 First of all, the protective gear I'm most picky about are elbow pads. I expect them to be light, as low profile as possible and not hinder my arm movement at all. These pads have a traditional 2-piece design with deep fit and a floating bicep guard. The forearm piece has a nylon strap which locks the pad down securely, while the middle strap is a neoprene one that has a little bit of stretch for comfort. These pads fit me very well; the wrap is excellent and I don't notice any resistance when I straighten my arms. I've tried every brand's top of the line products and nothing has come close to the overall protection / mobility on these. The liner is very soft and comfortable and dries fast. Protection 10/10 These pads are built sturdy with thick foams and plastic inserts all over. The elbow cap itself features a thick soft foam which protects you and the other players as well. I've had my share of falls and slashes on the forearms but never had any pain wearing these pads. Weight 9/10 Not as light as the newest offerings from Bauer and CCM, but still light enough for you not to notice them. Durability 10/10 I've had these for over 2 years and the only wear I've noticed is on the middle strap that has stretched out a bit. The straps still hold the pads down securely and there's no movement at all. Very happy with the durability. Conclusion 10/10 At the moment, there are no retail elbow pads for me that come even close to these fit, mobility and protection wise. Fortunately I bought another pair for backup when these are done.

Bauer Vapor APX2 Pro gloves Size 13" Time used: 4 months Fit 9/10 Vapor series gloves feature a "tapered" fit, which means they are form fitting through the fingers and the backhand while the short cuff flares open to offer excellent mobility. However, they aren't as tight fitting as some other manufacturer's tapered gloves. These particular gloves feature an overlayed Clarino palm which makes them fit a bit tighter since the thicker material has less give than the thin AX Suede Quattro one. (This seems to be a running change for the European market since all the APX2 Pro gloves I've seen lately have had this more traditional pro preferred palm) Protection 10/10 Protection wise the gloves have the traditional pro spec dual density foams with plastic inserts all over the fingers, backhand and cuff roll. The cuff and side hand pads feature single density foam and plastic inserts. They have a 3 piece free flex thumb which prevents overextension as well. The backhand liner has a Poron XRD insert in it, providing excellent protection and comfort. Weight 8/10 Because of the solid (and pretty traditional) protective materials, they aren't the lightest top end glove on the market. They're light enough for me not to notice the weight when playing though. Durability 10/10 Very minimal wear for me over the 4 months I've had them. No rips or tears or scuffs on them, stitching has held and the palms are still in very good condition. (I use Tacki-Mac grips which minimizes the palm wear) Intangibles The gloves were a bit stiff new and it took a while to break them in, but after that they have been very comfortable. The only thing I miss are mesh gussets, my hands sweat a lot and the gloves tend to get a bit hot. The gloves have the 37.5 liner which helps them dry pretty fast. Conclusion 9/10 Overall, I like the gloves a lot. They look and feel great and are just solid overall.

Needed a new visor. Almost ordered another Oakley straight small online but got lucky and found this gathering dust at a sports store under the new HDO ones.
-
IMO they're fine and do their job, but to be honest they should have added just a little bit cushioning on them. I need customizable footbeds because of my high arches, and I find my molded Footbalance footbeds more comfortable. There are and has been lots of other customizable footbeds on the market, the Speed Plates are nothing new.

Then you shouldn't call it a sauna. :)
-
FYI, that's how a sauna works. Not sure if the stove has stones on it (there should be), but the whole point of a sauna is to pour water on the hot stones to make the water vaporize. One of the most common misconceptions about electric sauna stoves is that it's an electrical hazard to let water contact the heating elements.
