Profile Issue with Bauer Runners for Junior Skates
noupf replied to vetrano's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
What exact model skate did you buy? I know some of the entry level ccm skates and bauer skates come with a runner that has a longer profile or radius for beginners so the blades feel flatter on the ice for easier balancing as they learn. I think Bauer uses a 13' radius, while the rest of their skates have the standard 10' radius. If you bought one of these and he knows how to skate already, i bet its throwing him off. -
The manager is who I spoke to. Agreed that he may not know everything or even be correct for that matter, but I’ve also read some comments from people that claim to be in the know, that the ribcor line will be likely discontinued in the near future, so putting the two together is what prompted me to create this post. We talked shop for over half an hour after asking if they had 100ks in stock ( they had one pair in the stock room ). He seemed relatively knowledgeable from what I could tell. Thanks for the insight on the sizing. Maybe boots today are sizing differently than when I bought my Graf G75’s 8+ years ago. Maybe I am 9 or 9.5 in the CCM’s.

Damn it !! Do you know for a fact that they will be produced again in 3-4 months? The Manager at pure hockey was telling me he believes they are done making them. As for sizing , not sure, couldn't even try any on. To further complicate things, Pure Hockey by me had me use the Bauer scan device, told me my right foot was a skate size 8.75 and my left was a 9. I know 100% for a fact i am an 11.5 in shoes and have a size 10 in my grafs that fit extremely well. I went to a newly opened hockey monkey store near me too, their Bauer scan machine said i was a 9 right and 9.25 left. A full two sizes down..... I'm blown away if any of that is true lol

Went on a hunt at some LHS's and couldn't find much. Most every other model and brand were in stock with plenty of sizes and fits. Online stores have very little too it looks like. Is CCM no longer producing the 100k Pros?
-
Are they still in the process of fixing the mistake? I want to try these, but would rather not risk purchasing some of the affected lot of these skates ( even if they are repaired or inspected ). Wondering how long we should wait until the are coming out of the factory 100% correct to begin with. Were the AS-V ( non pro models ) affected as well?
-
yes, boot pitch. thank you
-
Trying to figure out what sort of forward pitch the 3S Pro's have built into them. Are they pitched forward a bit or are they more of a neutral pitch? Buddy of mine wants to experiment with profiling, but is trying to figure out if he wants the keep the pitch in the profiles or reduce / remove the profiles pitch. Thanks !

Understood. thanks.

Ah, so there is an issue with the cap and rivets where it attaches. I also read that people were annoyed on the top of their forefoot by a lip from the removable tongues. So there's various issues depending on the model and the foot that's in there i guess lol
-
Does the 100k have the toe cap issue that apparently bothers some skaters? Or was that just the AS3 pro and FT4 Pro's? What was the actual issue that some were noticing, as i've heard multiple complaints?
-
Can a local hockey shop with a profiling machine put a flatter profile on youth skates if the runners are not removable?
-
hmmmmm, yea thats odd. Maybe they aren't gonna do discounts on old product anymore. I do remember some distributors in the non-hockey retail world would just recall old models of goods and then sell them elsewhere at discounts when new version rolled out ( I have no idea where they sold them to be honest after they took the products back though ). Covid, manufacturing, supply chains and inflation have definitely turned selling and buying upside down all over the globe, i can tell you that much. Everything from autos to basic goods and services, everything is whacky now.
-
That makes sense at the moment bc this version of the vapors are still the newest model. Once Bauer introduces its successor next year, i'm sure this version will go on sale as well.
-
ahh, ok. Well, when i worked retail years ago, usually you started with a certain percent off and you see how well they sold. If those discounts didn't clear out the inventory of older goods fast enough, you marked them down farther. Usually a month or two after the initial mark down. However, if the goods did sell better, there was no need to mark them down farther until you hit a wall. At that point, a majority of the popular sizes and such were gone and you were only left with odd sizes and such. Risky game waiting is my point.....might not get your size or model.

Don't most sites have last years Bauer models already on sale? Well, at least on sale bc the newest version of that model dropped in the last moth or so?

New Skates for Continued Ankle/Lace Bite Issues
noupf replied to wedgylx's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Some early YouTube reviews of the new CCM Super Tacks AS-V line of skates are saying they have a ton of volume ( even more so than last years ) in them and area even more formable with baking. Also read they are pre-baked around a generic foot mold before leaving the factory so that you get a good idea right out of the box if they may work for you or not.. Add the 90 Day Satisfaction guarantee or you get your money back if you don't like them. I plan on trying some new CCM's after my hernia surgery next week and will be treating my self to new pair once I'm cleared to play again. Cant beat the 90 day trial period. -
Any idea what the issue was? edit: Nevermind, i found it on redit. Warped holders from their pre-bake process at the factory since the skates dont come with steel in the holders
-
different models of the same brands have different fit profiles. Some are cut bigger, some are cut tighter and closer to the shape of a hand. In general, i think gloves are smaller today than 15-20 years ago, even on the models that are cut larger.

Clarino or Total Dri liners...your preference?
noupf replied to Jbear's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
why? -
See, this is the shit i am concerned about with these carbon fiber composite boots. There's a guy in another thread who got hit with a shot on the side of his CCM 100k's and it split the carbon like an egg shell. I also found people complaining about splits and cracks in the orginal CCM AS1 pro skates. Something clearly happened to your boot heel and it will get worse, to the point that the skate is trash.
-
ahhh, ok.
-
Just curious, where did you purchase the 100k's from? You said something about a LHS in one of your previous responses as an option to get the Machs if you had gotten the refund from the place you purchased the 100k's from.......or did i miss read something?
-
Yea, that sucks. Especially if you really liked them. I personally was looking at the 100k's, but I too am now tainted bc of this. Was it likely a one time fluke of a failure, probably, but now that it happened, you'll worry about it all the time. Like you said, tough call.
-
WOW, now that's an interesting twist. Looks like the shop you purchased from is offering you a better option than what CCM is. Granted, you can get a brand new pair of 100K's or a voucher, but if you go the voucher route, you have to purchase another CCM skate, which I believe you are not interested in doing, correct?
-
I think thats the best option, so at least you know what the correct remedy should be for this situation and not necessarily what the shop is telling you. If you decide to try the Machs, i would ask them in advance, what options you would have just in case you do not like them.
