Totally man! Especially at the beginning when they were warming up the goalies. It was just a constant barrage of shots, that drill when players skate out to the blue line and circle in and get a pass from the corner. That is fine and dandy, but it was wearing me out fast at the rate the players were coming in. So having to share the net was more than welcomed by me! I have looked at her videos, thanks again for mentioning her.

i had so much fun last night, I attended the adult skills clinic at our local rink. It was a great group of guys and the dudes that put it on did a really good job. There were two other goalies out there, one of which had only been on the ice as goalie for 7 times, the other was a gal with about a year of experience. Having one extra goalie was cool because it allowed me to take breaks during the various drills we did. I felt so much better than I did at sticktime on saturday. My stamina was better, I was receiving instruction and I even took one shot square in the juevos! (one off the mask too). We did various 2 on 0 drills and it was fun tracking the puck and then doing a very half-assed butterfly slide across the crease to make some saves! I cant wait until next mondays clinic! In the meantime I will continue my stretching routines.

i do have a go pro. i should try that one time at a stick time.

thanks badger! one of my goalie buddies is going to come out to a stick time with me and work with me. those drills sound fun and essential to learning the fundamentals of the position. i like the video of yourself idea as well. nothing like seeing what you actually look like vs what you think you look like!

This was my first time in all my pads on the ice. I tried everything on at home, but pretty much was just standing in place. I wanted to do a public skate with my goalie skates before I geared up for a stick time but that didnt happen. We are doing a public session Sunday, so that will be more time in the skates. It did feel a bit awkward at first today, but only when skating and turning. The longer flat portiin of blade on the ice was certainly noticeable. I was just so relieved that I didnt experience any foot pain in the skates. I mades sure not to crank the laces down too hard and that worked out great. I was trying to do some basic goalie drills on my own, but without have someone there to watch and correct my technique, I kind of gave up on them. Also, it got kind of old just having people coming in an essentialy doing breakaway attempts on me. After awhile if they didnt shoot from the top of the circles I just let them do their thing and didnt flinch. I wanted to try to work on covering the posts and have people shoot from different angles, but that disnt really happen either. It was a fun first experience and I cant wait to get some instruction come Monday night.

well i survived my first stick time as tendy. it was fun, it was exhausting. i felt a bit dehydrated out there so i made sure to drink plenty of water every so often. there was another goalie out there, a high school kid who was legit! this was pretty much free for all and we did a lil cross ice 3 on 3. so i got some taste of trying to see the puck through traffic! i felt awkward, bulky and silly at times but i did make some saves when people were taking shots from outside. i stopped a few deke attempts but towards the end, i was too beat to go down to try to make a save. i was trying to concentrate on my angles, and telescoping. i did make saves with each piece of equipment, so it was cool to see how they all felt when being hit with a puck. my right arm was also feeling very fatigued towards the end of the session. this was my first time wearing my goalie skates on the oce and they felt great, no pain at all! (graf goaler elite) monday nights clinic should be exhausting as well but at least there will be a goalie coach out there to offer up instruction.

alright fellas, gear has been acquired! I'm going sunday afternoon to a public skate to break in my new goalie skates and plan to do the monday night adult skills clinic!
-
Thanks fellas! That is the plan. My buddy is a manager at Goalie Monkey so I am going to go visit him soon to get sized up for stuff. Just been researching like crazy for the past few days. I was already having minor panic attacks about my first start in adult league as a goalie, lol!

I'm thinking about making the switch to goal. My only experience on ice was many years ago when I played Bantams, but that was temporary until we got a full time goalie. Thanks for all of the great info in this thread!

My RPD Team+. Best feeling skate I've ever worn, on ice or roller. (I've skated Bauer, CCM and Graf)

I wore an 8 in Bauer (older Supremes), and my Grafs are 7.5(Ultra G5). I initially went with a 7.5 Team from Alkali but it felt too snug in the toe cap. Ended up with an 8 RPD Team+ and they have more more room without being too much room.

It is 74 degrees in SoCal today, I wish we had an actual winter! (probably won't get much sympathy, lol)

I was debating on Labeda Grippers "medium" (80a) or Rink Rat Identity Thefts(80a) to replace my 76a Labeda Milleniums on the ends of each skate. I ended up with the RR IT. I was leaning toward the Grippers because of their legacy but was very curious to see how the RR IT would be since there wasnt much out there as far as reviews go. I may skate them tomorrow morning, if not I will use them Monday night for sure. Just mounted them up right now.

Yes. I'm thinking of trying 78a on the ends though to try to get a little more speed out of my set up. Like Wicked3Aussie mentioned, my first skate out I did feel like I was slightly bogging down a bit with the 76a.

i would say the fit is more like a Supreme or Nexus. It is definitely wider than a Vapor. I also skate Grafs and would say the forward lean is somewhat similar but a straight 80mm set up makes the wheelbase feel longer. Meaning the forward lean is still there but the straight 80mm set up kind of made it feel flat to a degree. My Grafs have a decent rocker to them so the forward lean feels more pronounced than it does in my Alkali RPD Team+.

I will keep you posted on how they affect mine. Granted I had used the wax laces for nearly 10 games or so on ice, so they aren't brand new. But they still hold really well. Tonight when I get home from work I will look at the tongues of my skates and see if there is any residue/wear on them.

As a fairly new member myself, welcome! I also went up a 1/2 size from my ice hockey skates (7.5 in Graf), went with an 8 in Alkali RPD Team+. I have about 4 games played with them and they are amazing. Last night before my game I swapped out my laces that came with the skates, (they were really long) for the wax laces that came with my Grafs. These were amazing, didn't over tighten them and they stayed snug the entire game. I'm playing an Ironman tourney this coming Saturday, I know my feet will be comfortable and locked in all day long! I think we play at least 3 games?

I'd recommend trying on both sizes if possible. I wear a 9 in street shoes and initially tried a 7.5 in the Alkali RPD Team, but felt like my toes were too crunched, switched them out for an 8 in the RPD Team+ and am in heaven. :)

Time for another update. After one game, I felt that the 7.5's (last years RPD Team) were not working for me, my toes were more crunched in the toe box rather than feathering the toe box. After going through a lengthy ordeal with initially ill fitting Grafs for ice hockey (also a 7.5) I didn't want to go through that ordeal all over again with my Alkali's. Worked out a deal with my LHS and ended up getting a pair of the RPD Team+ (they didn't have an 8 in last years RPD Team) in a size 8, these fit MUCH BETTER! No ifs, ands or buts about it, my feet felt comfortable, my toes had room, but weren't swimming. This time they were baked for the proper 9 minutes in the skate oven (last time the sales associate only did it for 5), and I sat, then stood after a minute or two, then sat for the remainder. (i studied the Alkali bake video) Last night I used them for the first time and during warm ups I noticed that it was tough to get forward flex, as I had them laced all the way up. I skated my first shift like that and knew I had to undo the top eyelet to get that flex. Wow, this made a HUGE difference in my skating, as I could get my proper stride going. My heels stayed locked, and my foot was able to move in its natural position. I'm still adjusting to the full 80mm set up, but I have a feeling in another game or two I will be dialed.
