Congratulations to the girls and coaches, fine job!!

Any day you get to play hockey, win or lose, is better than a day you don't get to play hockey. Now I'm going to sit in my chair, rest my old legs and hydrate.

Just proud dad stuff... First, my son's first year of travel, just 3 years ago yesterday. Crazy when I look at the photo. He's proof, you don't need to push your kids. Let them go at their roll. It was all I could do to get him do more than go to practice(he just wanted to play games), but found love at around 14. Has done just fine. And the young one....who can't get on the ice enough. She bugs me when I don't want to go.

^^^ Just as a side note on that. My daughters clubs auto defer to the docs, have to be cleared as soon as concussion occurs. Sidelined, no practice or games, until cleared by physician. I just think the younger the brain, the more cautious approach doesn't hurt. There is also reportedly a bunch of research coming out(soccer) that girls apparently appear to be more prone to some of this due to neck strength. Don't quote me, but I watched something on HBO Real Sports re: it. In a nutshell, I just don't think pushing the envelope with pups is worth it. Hopefully many games/seasons ahead, boys or girls. Not to mention, life, school ect....hockey/sport at a competitive level(not counting beer leagues) ends soon enough, but you only get one brain at best...

You're doing the right thing.

I'm not venting, just ughing. I've never not traveled with my '05 and her boys team is rolling this weekend. Man I wish I was there. Flip side, I did travel a bit with her brother and his team won in 3OT to advance to the finals of the Wasatch Cup. Just odd...never sent the girls off.

You'll have to make a point of getting the girls on the ice with her, MTHockeydad. Yesterday was even better, broke out the 14's from the 19's(19's going today, just 14's yesterday). She is so personable and gave my daughter a big, what appeared to be genuine hug, after as we were leaving the arena. Stuff like that goes a long way, my daughter thinks Lyndsey is the greatest thing ever. Lyndsey is a great ambassador for women's hockey, I'm a big fan and I don't think we'll ever miss something she does here.

^^^. Nice on the hockey & the new pup! My little one was able to get out on the ice with Olympian Lyndsey Fry for 1.5 hours tonight. Great session/clinic and Lyndsey and her parents are a nice as it gets.

That stick swinging is unbelievable. Crazy a league supervisor would see video of it and do nothing.

Both my dogs came home with Kennel Cough.... It was a ROUGH NIGHT.

When traveling for a hockey tournament, rule 306, always keep your fridge stocked to stay hydrated....

Couple of the young one this past weekend, went 3-1, but didn't advance. (Edit for - for some reason these were deleted from my PB account?)

Learning hockey at 20 years past an advanced age

Good on you and keep it up!! Played my first "real" hockey game a little over a year ago(I'm 45) and now play on 2 different teams(Rookie League & D-League). I'd play 4-5 nights a week, plus weekends if I could swing it. -
Sending positive JuJu to you Chad and to your player, MThockeydad.

Holiday can be a bit hectic and whatnot, but I really love the opportunity to get together with all my immediate family. Also, something special gifting someone something they really want and have no idea they're getting....those smiles and sometimes tears, priceless.

Priceless right there...makes every hour worth it. AWESOME!!!Buccigross is going to wear a @skatinutes #cawlidgehawkey jersey tonight on SportsCenter... I already loved the guy and have a ton of OT challenge and CawlidgeHawkey stuff, but this sends me over the top. Love me some Bucci!

Started at 6:00 AM, finished at 10:00 PM. 3-1 (2-0 with her 12U's and 1-1 with her 14U's). We'll take one banner from here, with some magic maybe 2. I should sack out, rolling tomorrow morning early. Side note, not sure how these cats schedule, but her 14's team had 2 games....6:00 AM and 8:50 PM...really?

On the road for the 4th time in 5 weeks for hockey tournaments for this one. Colorado twice(Vail & Steamboat Springs), Wyoming once(Jackson Hole) and now Idaho Falls, Idaho. First time this year it's just dad/daughter. Plan on putting the hurt on some teams tomorrow.

Think Howelsen opened in '96...

My daughters 12U girls team went to Steamboat, Colorado to play in the Adele Dombrowski Tournament. Undefeated tournament champions. My daughter didn't have a bad run either, netting 13 goals in 4 games. Fun weekend!
-
The Avs won @ NYR, my son's ACHA West #2 Skatin' Utes went on the road and beat #3 Utah State 5-2, I played(lost, but it was a fun game, I'm beat) & I'm headed to Jackson Hole.... Life could be worse.

learning hockey at an advanced age

No. Assuming you are not even on a team. Honestly, at this point, you just want to be placed on a team & then put in a position where they feel you can fit in. Then you work your tail off to get comfortable where you got slotted and hope to be called up to play at the next level. Then you're placed whatever position they feel like you can fit in. When you're good enough to say "I'm LD", it doesn't matter, because they may need you at RF and you'll just roll with that. That's my opinion & im sticking to it. -
I know, the bragging on the kid thing.... That said, my 10U was ask to play for a U14 team playing in Colorado this weekend. We jumped and though there was a bit of a flare up(meltdown) in our program(we have 14's that she's playing against in this tourney), it's all good. The team in 0-2, but have competed well, 60%+ of the girls are 12's(this program can't field 12's & 14's, so just 14's). Oh, guess the bragging...other than being ask as a 10 to play 14's, she's got 3 of their 5 goals. Scored 2 goals against her programs 14's, who they will not allow her to play up for.

^^^^AWESOME STUFF, MThockeydad, the whole thing!

She has had a little jump, taller and leaner....
