Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
VegasHockey replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I wonder if its a specific hollow or type of ring that causes the steel to burr more than others. -
Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
VegasHockey replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
This seems reasonable. -
General feedback is that players felt much slower though more stable. Even after adjusting the blade profiling, pitch and ROH the players all felt too far back on their heels or that they were digging in too deep. What I noticed is the higher the level of player the more they disliked the Marsblade. The other feedback was that it felt like there was a delay in the holders and they were not as responsive. Maybe with a revised version if they cast them out of some material other than carbon composite they will lower the weight which might help resolve these complaints.

Played with one and hated it. Wayyyyyy too light. Not sure if any of the players using it in the NHL are even using the real.thing or just something dressed to sell.... It felt like a shaft with no blade. It was weird....

VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne
VegasHockey replied to dsjunior1388's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
The customer said it was a factory defect. Not sure as we didn't fit him and he got the skates in Vancouver. I swapped the holders for him though and sent TRUE an email with the customer's information. First time I have ever seen a VH/TRUE holder with a defect. -
Out of the 10 holders I have installed 9 of the players have gone back to their previous holder. Not a lot of positive feedback so far.... What other feedback are others seeing?

Sad day when a customer comes in with this...... -
90% of Edge holders make noise. Use a little bit of tape or even some wax to snug them up.

I used a gummi stone. Cheaper and likely works the same, or even better. Its also cheaper. -
Speedplate 2.0 cutting off arch-support
VegasHockey replied to hockeydad3's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Pic of your foot on the speedplate please, from the side view (arch) -
I have a demo pair of the FT2 currently. The heel is, in fact, wider in the FT2 than the FT1, but is still extremely narrow. They are the same stiffness but there are more foams in the FT2 so I would imagine they provide a bit more protection and comfort. If I was going to compare retail FT1 vs FT2, the FT2 would be the better choice. If you are going custom or pro stock in the FT1 I would say its better option than the retail FT2.

What is under Super Tacks skate "coffin" vent?
VegasHockey replied to Bulldog21's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
If you can find the pics of my stripped down Super Tacks you can see what it looks like without the vent cover. -
Asking 550. Excellent condition and hardly used. Half size too big. Would consider trade for FT1 or Vapor. Size: 7.0 Width: D Holder: 263 Steel: Bauer LS5 Profile: 10' The Bauer Supreme 2S Pro Skates were built with one goal in mind; to provide the most effective and efficient stride a Bauer skate can possibly produce. The 2S Pro accomplished this with a new Carbon Curv Composite boot, the Reflex Pro Tongue, the SpeedPlate Custom Footbed and the Tuuk LS5 Carbon Runners. Completely new to Bauer, the 2S Pro boot features Carbon Curv Composite that is lighter and more heat-moldable than the standard Curv Composite. While the boot anatomically wraps around the sides of the feet with elite-level support, the new Reflex Pro Tongue utilizes moldable composite inserts for a custom fit on top of the foot too. Similar to that of the Vapor 1X, the Reflex Pro offers 20% more protection and the small flex inserts help the tongue to spring-back during the skating stride. Completing the 360-degree custom fit is the heat-moldable SpeedPlate. Unlike traditional footbeds, the SpeedPlate forms personalized arch and heel support for 20% better energy transfer since it adapts to a player's unique foot shape, eliminates negative space and enhances stability. The LockFit+ Pro Liner helps to secure the foot inside the boot with a tacky bottom portion while the upper portion focuses on abrasion-resistance and moisture management. Sitting inside of the Tuuk Edge Holder are the innovative Tuuk LS5 Carbon runners. Bauer used a soft inner core coated with carbon-nitrate which results in the best edge-bite and edge-retention they have ever offered. The amount of edge-bite is so significant that most players will go down to (larger) hollow to get the same feel they are used to, which then improves glide. While the 1S skate featured a Supreme-specific lacing system, the 2S Pro boasts the new Reflex Pro. Bauer softened the design and re-shaped the bottom half in order to achieve better wrap over the foot. Bauer also included a second set of three eyelets, giving players more options when it comes to different methods of lacing up the skates. The C-Flex Tendon Guard is another avenue in which players can customize the 2S Pro; remove the insert for maximum flexibility or use the medium insert for a more traditional stiffness.

We tried that and its not the case. The Marsblade holders dont have the same aggressive height and pitch when compared to VH/TRUE holder, for example. They are very neutral. I also think that since the front is "locked" while the rear of the holder flexes the current profile players are using will likely feel strange. We are seeing players use an aggressive toe with a very long heel. 8-10 in the front and 13-26 in the rear. It all depends on the specific person though and their skating profile. I'll report back as more players provide me with feedback. I am concerned there are no replacement blades available yet as profiling, especially if you go from one extreme to the next, takes off a decent amount of steel every time.

Step blacksteel profile and sharpening
VegasHockey replied to Jscott40's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
STEP XL is slightly longer than regular steel and while it is a 10' radius the toe and heel are different. If you want to copy your current profile just find a store that has the new ProSharp machine and they can match the profile exactly. We do it for customers all the time. Check out this video: -
VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne
VegasHockey replied to dsjunior1388's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I dont lace the top two eyelets in the AS1 or FT1/FT2 and dont lace the top eyelet in the TRUE skates. I think in my next TRUE order I am going to ask them to use fewer eyelets and not to put in a top eyelet. -
Anyone know why CCM doesn't use D30 in any of their skates?
-
Interesting. That explains why so many people are asking me to profile them.
-
Thanks, I will send him an email.

Have a customer who has a pair of Vapor 1X skates with the pro stock fabric grip liner. The liner is really worn but the rest of the skate is basically flawless. I dont know of any places that will replace a liner and its definately more work that I would be willing to take on myself. Does anyone have any suggestions? Whats the cost for such?
