  1. I don't agree that most people go to True because they can't fit retail. I looked into it before covid but just never got around to scheduling a scan. I fit retail Supremes very well. No pain, no pressure, no issues with durability, minimal negative space. I'm happy with them, but they could definitely be more comfortable. I heard Trues were very comfortable and I was interested. Obviously it is officially competing with Bauer and CCM, but in reality they are offering something very different. A skate that molds to wrap your foot like True (assuming it's like the mako or better) is not something that either Bauer out CCM offer. Also, offering a premium skate at 600$ is not something they do at all. Practically speaking, Bauer bought Easton, so if they see that the True retail sell, in theory they can always remake a mako type skate to complete with true retail since they own the tech. Lot of good points made. I think a lot of us are going on the assumption that these retails will be as thermoformable as the customs and the Makos. I have very little doubt that that will be the case, but it is still an assumption. I just wonder how stiff the TF7s will get after baking and if it will be comparable to a carbon boot. What are other fiberglass boots? Trying to recall if I ever used a pair
  2. Absolutely. It has to be worth it for them, otherwise they're competing with their own more expensive product, which makes no sense. But once you factor in handmade vs factory made skates, it's a no brainer. Saves a lot of time and money for True and saves for the customer as well. I'm hoping some of the quality issues will also go away with the retails.
  3. Yeah I would definitely assume they will fit even more people than typical retail skates. The question is more for those players who wore True custom. How many of them will be able to hop into the TF9 or 7 and be fine. I imagine there's going to be a good chunk.
  4. Nice to see that someone knows what they're selling. That was very helpful and makes a lot of sense.
  5. Maybe. Some will and some won't, and it remains to be seen just what percentage are able to fit the retails. They based the last for the True retail skates on the data collected from all of the custom scans. That means that there is definitely some percentage of previous custom wearers that will fit retail. Additionally, they will mold to your feet, so that increases the amount of people that will do ok with retail. The question is whether you are one of the folks who will fit retail Trues despite usually having a hard time fitting retail skates. The only way to answer is to try them on and see if they can work for you. But there is definitely a possibility that you will be fine with the retails
  6. Yeah it's hard to tell on the internet. I have never seen such a thing. There was a shop on the island that would mount roller chassis to an ice boot and they would keep the holders and runner in exchange for the labor. In essence, to didn't pay a fee for the mount, just the ice skates and chassis. Nowadays it's not a great deal, but 17-18 years ago when reselling a holder was a lot harder, it was more worth it
  7. If you're just trying to make a point, then point taken. The thing is, True did used to allow you to purchase boots only and True had pretty much made their reputation in skates based on customization, so I do think it has given people a different expectation for what True will do to help a customer customize their skates above what Bauer out CCM would do. That said, they obviously have other calculations to make, so I understand making you buy the holders even if you don't want them mounted. If you're sincerely asking, my guess is that they might do it for pros but I doubt they would do it for the avg. Joe. I used to get undrilled Mission ice boots years ago. They came through a teammate, but I definitely wasn't the only one. I would imagine that most people who played roller remember undrilled Mission flyweights or amp 2 carbons with eframes
  8. Oh yeah that was dumb lol. In my mind I keep equating fit 1 with vapor and just automatically assuming I'd be a fit 2 because I wear supreme. I guess this is really a different approach to fitting skates. I hope it works out better for people
  9. Just ask for them to dress it up as some new stuyck that needs to sell😉
  10. That's pretty evident from this thread lol. Did they say why fit 1 is their preference?
  11. That's interesting. You said you've worn Supremes for a while, but now you're in fit 1. This makes me really curious to try on these three fits and see what the difference really is. I would have guessed that it was similar to the three fits that used to be three separate lines, but it seems like that's not the case. And they aren't offering different widths anymore? Just d?
  12. To my knowledge it doesn't really work that way. Heat causes expansion.
  13. This is definitely true. Rinks have been shutting down consistently for a decade+ around me. I'm sure this covid shut down is going to be a dagger for a lot of these rinks too. That said, I don't get dek hockey and I only know of one place here that has an adult league and it's mostly the result of having a lot of extra space in their facility and enough roller rinks already
  14. STX is quality stuff. The gloves are pretty nice, definitely superior to the other offerings in that price range. They are built well but there are definitely details that aren't premium. Sizing always confused me. The old surgeon gloves foyr tight, which I liked, but the rx3 felt looser. Pro stock STX is great ime. Sticks are really nice. As a guy who used the Trilage for a while back in the day, I'm a sucker for a weird stick shape. I like the rx3. I don't own one, but that's mostly because I don't need one these days. When rinks open back up it will probably be the next stick I buy. Flex is a bit whippy like someone else said. Blade feel is excellent. I play d but preferred the rx3 blade to the hpr.
  15. Right, I should say, on the whole over the last decade or two, it's uncommon, but there are definitely exceptions. I'm not familiar enough with the flow of things in this particular industry to know the why's though
  16. I don't know why, but it's definitely not typical. Usually the brands based on na release in na first.
  17. Depends. If the fit 2 is not too loose in the heel. I personally lean away from stretching or punching if it can be avoided. But you're right, I should have said "fit 1 might be too narrow."
  18. Is it possible that they are doing this for dealers but not direct to consumer anymore? It's odd because I have heard for a while now, from all different avenues, that they not longer sell boot only. I'm glad to hear what you're saying, just confused as to why True is telling people the opposite. Saves me a pile of money and the headache of trying to resell the shift holders. Are they offering that option for the TF9/7 as well, or is it just for custom boots?
  19. In my experience this is not easy to pinpoint and usually it isn't just one thing. This could be largely that your feet are not used to skates and are weak, and therefore it will take time to develop the muscles under your foot. Could be skates too narrow. Could be skates too loose and you're cranking down the laces to compensate. This, in turn, puts pressure on your feet. Could be the boot arch is too high for your arches. Could be it is too low and your arches are collapsing. Could be the boot is too long and your arches is not positioned properly in the boot. The point in all of this is to say that this is something you should bring to a good LHS that knows how to fit skates properly, not just a shop that will follow the Bauer scanner without thinking.
  20. No idea why anyone would want to run when they can fly around on wheels. This comment correlates with my waistline after 4 months of covid lockdown
  21. I believe this had changed and he's right. I was also told this by True shortly before the covid lockdown. I never ended up getting into the shop for a scan before everything shut down. I was planning to buy the boots for roller chassis mount so I have absolutely no need for holders
  22. They are more thermoformable so you can get a better fit, more comfortable, significantly cheaper for the same level of performance. There have been issues with build quality which will hopefully be improved in the retail line.
  23. Hopefully your shop is decent and this is just a mistake on their part. A few people have posted on here that due to Bauer's new fit system, they have supposedly made the boots more thermoformable. I would guess that the guys in the shop didn't take this into account since this line is fairly new and they might not even realize. Definitely let them know. Even if they can't do anything for you, they might not screw it up for the next guy if you bring to they're attn.
