  1. Yup, especially with sprungs that are a bit funky to mount and line up. I have been having frames swapped for close to 2 decades, from the old generator and eframes, but I always take it to a pro. I'm very handy and I have a good eye too (I work as a bookbinder) but when it comes to skates I trust pros only. A screw up on these and I could go down hard. I don't really have time for broken anything at this point. To me it's a matter of safety.
  2. It should fit... Just looking at mine, they are fine. I believe this is something that sprungs considered, as they were marketing their frames to be used on ice boots for conversion. That was a big point for them, to convert the same boots you use for ice to roller. I would try to live them up again and make sure to have front and back wheels on them, and they're supposed to be mounted a quarter inch back from center I believe. The better option might be to try to drill out a bit of the frame base plate to enlarge the holes just slightly to the outside, and you should be able to fit the frame onto the main part of the outsole. Otherwise have a pro do it, because you ain't gettin another pair of sprungs too quickly
  3. The reality of comp sticks is that sometimes they break super quickly and totally randomly. That's why they have warranties. I would venture to guess that everyone on here knows someone who broke even a stick that's known to be a tank. There's a difference between durability and fluke breaks. I bought 2 TPS tricore3s about 15 years ago or something (whenever they came out). One broke within a week or so, maybe 5 sessions (2 games, 2 practices, one pickup) judging from how often I played then. The other is still going strong and is my go to shaft. I have probably used over 100 abs blades in it. Both 75 flex, and when I broke the first one I must have weighed 135lbs, and now I weigh 195, and it's fine. (The shop warranted the first one BTW, but if it remember correctly they didn't have another one in Reg flex, so I opted for a different model, probably a redlite). My point is that durability shouldn't be judged by fluke breaks common to all comp sticks. In my eyes it's more about how long did the shaft and blade last on one that didn't just randomly snap. I never owned one, but everyone I know that uses them likes them very much. That said, should you drop to a whippier flex? That's your call really
  4. Maybe put a compression arm sleeve over your elbows. Or some sort of Velcro strap.
  5. Your wheels are too soft! I put 78a wheels on my sprungs initially. I weigh close to 200 lbs and I felt the same thing. Then I put on 82a for outdoor and it was better. Now I'm using 89a wheels for outdoor. With my weight and being a fairly advanced skater I could probably use 82-84a wheels on sport court even. You're missing out. On 89a's I'm flying. They are way faster than standard chassis. Ok, back to the topic
  6. He lives in Florida if you want a general estimate, but you can contact him directly for more details. The shipping is definitely an added charge, but the quality is worth it, and also, I use the site so I wanted to support the services that they offer, even though it could cost me a bit more. I can support my local shop through other stuff. Also, not sure prices by you, but I actually think it was cheaper for me even with shipping. My local shop charges 55 +tax for a full conversion. I got 3 pairs done by JR for 90 bucks, and shipping both ways totaled about 60 bucks. So 3 pairs of skates cost me 150. Local, I would have paid 165+ tax, and it would have been an hour drive each way, so 4 hours of driving total. Obviously depends on your local prices, but in my case the MSH prices ended up being better. I didn't realize it then, but now that I'm making the calculation, I obviously won out. I would have sent them either way, but it's nice to know I saved a few bucks and a few hours of driving. Also, I was having sprungs mounted, and I didn't want to take any chances in them being mounted incorrectly or poorly. I know JR has done many, so I felt much more comfortable sending then to him.
  7. I understand that. I'm wondering what it is in contact with? From the picture it just looks like there is a notch in the runner. There had to be some point of continuous contact between the runner and holder for any suspension mechanism to work. Oh nevermind, I get it, it works off of the fin. Duh.
  8. Right, just saw that. The question is, what pushes the blade back down? The fact that it's recessed let's it go up. A spring is usually used to make it return, but if there's no spring, how does the runner go back down?
  9. Most likely the pro is the 65 flex full height. Usually 65 is intermediate. The blade is pretty close to the e4 though
  10. Thanks for clarifying Jeff. What exactly gives that spring action? In the video it shows that there's a spring inside the holder, but it seems that you're not doing that anymore. What has taken it's place? Is it just a cutout that allows the runner to move? What is forcing it to "unload" following the push off? Trying to understand how this works, as it reminds me very much if the sprungs roller chassis, which I love and can definitely attest to the suspension taking some of the wear and tear off of the knees. My concern is more about, in a suspension system, that energy is absorbed in the springs and then released. In sprung roller chassis, there is a spring that stores and releases the energy. In the BT steel, if there is no spring, where is the energy stored before it is released? In a standard holder it's stored in your knees and your body in general. Trying to understand how it works. Thanks again and best of luck Edit: I see now that you said the blade itself and as a stiff leaf spring.
  11. Definitely respect the idea
  12. Nat Spooner? I think she's with True hockey now, but I guess it could be hers. That makes sense, actually, since they're 65 flex custom seniors. I play mostly roller and I like a whippy stick. I rarely wind up, but I carry the puck and take quick wristers a lot, so whippy is great, especially in the leagues that used those light roller pucks. I usually use 75 flex or 85 on some of the whippier brands.
  13. Label says E4 PRO, so it's some modification on the Cammy. It looks fairly minor to me, bit more heel maybe.
  14. My understanding was that True had a large stock. Yet another reason to reserve the step steel for custom orders only. I'm sure they'll figure something out when the time comes. They're pretty good at what they do (except the zpalms and those tc9 gloves. Wow those were bad).
  15. This sounds like sprungs for ice. Do they need a specific holder? Does it increase the stress load on the holders and make for potentially damaging the holders or increasing the wear and tear on them and decreasing durability? Sounds like a great idea.
  16. Yup, they are the same wheel, very unique dual pour outdoor wheel. I can imagine this on the old vforms for some beach hockey
  17. Thanks. Just seeing this now, but thankfully I picked up 3 brand new pro stock v9es this morning. Beautiful mid heel closed face curve. BTW, anyone know who Spooner is? Though Ryan Spooner but I'm pretty sure he's a lefty from when he was a Ranger. Could it just be a random name it college player? Would they do a custom pro curve for college players or only in the show? I will be in touch via dm when I'm ready to order some customs. The STX rx3 and the m90 are the two most impressive recent model sticks I've tried. Can you do custom Sherwood, it just CCM?
  18. Honestly, they are offering so much at the TF9 price point that, aside from just having hooves and needing customs, they have to give their custom buyers something premium above the TF9. Meaning, if I were a custom buyer because I absolutely couldn't fit retail, it would make me feel a bit better that for my 350 extra $s I'm at least getting a steel upgrade (obviously in addition to the fact that my skates are being built on a custom last). Now, for you and me who are probably TF9 customers, it's a bummer, but for Johnny Chunkfoot he feels a bit better about not being able to just fit retails and save a few hundred bucks. Just playing devil's advocate
  19. I agree that the TF7s would probably be sufficient. From 12-16 ish is the age that feet grow like wild and i doubt he will break down the TF7s by the time he outgrows them
  20. Yeah I looked into Base, I've used a few of their blades and never loved them, but they're definitely serviceable. I'm still using v9e so I'm obviously not chasing the next techy marketing slogan, but I definitely wasn't crazy about the balance on the Base ops that I've held. In terms of recent sticks, I liked the STX rx3 and the m90 that I've shot with. The rx3 is very limited in only 3 patterns, but the m90 had a bunch, just seems like they sold out most of my flex/pattern combo. I will probably look into custom Sherwood, but in assuming the minimum order will be 6 and that's definitely going to cost, so I'm probably going to wait a bit for that. And yes, psh is probably not getting time of inventory with the covid shutdown.
  21. I was under the impression that the pp28 would be pretty similar to p28/w28 etc. The face is much more open than pm9 in my experience.
  22. Yeah I figured I'd probably just end up back at 88. I might consider a few custom rekker m90s though. That's probably a few months away for me. Thanks!
  23. I didn't see much, but could be I missed something in the search. I only saw a few warriors. Right, 85ish, round shaft is my preference, not particular about shaft shape, but prefer round if I have a choice. I guess Sherwood doesn't make the pp9 or pp96 anymore? Does Sherwood still do customs or am I living in the past? What are the most closed blade patterns available nowadays that are coming found?
  24. If I recall, there was a Sherwood curve that was really nice, I think it was 09. Haven't seen it on any online site, called my LHS they mentioned potentially custom ordering Sherwood or warrior 01 for this curve. Anyone have any experience with custom sticks? Sounds expensive
  25. I'm a long time E4 Cammaleri guy. Still have some stock, few stealth RS, CX and a v9e, since I went to p88 or equivalent for a while. Was just poking around online and I didn't see much available in a similar pattern, such as the warrior 01 which I've used and the CCM 14 I believe. I looked around and all I could really find were Bauer pm9. I wear Bauer skates but I've never liked their sticks for some reason. Some places said that True had a mc2 pattern that's similar, but I didn't find it anywhere. Just curious if I might be out of luck with this, or if there are still options for a mid/heel curve with a closed face. Thank
