  1. Love them L29s baby. I just dyed my pair jet black last week. They were rangers pro stock and they were starting to look haggard, so I just dyed them up. Got nervous from how heavy they got, but they dried up fine. Mine is as follows: Helmet: Easton e700s Shoulders/pants: mostly play roller, don't wear them. Have some eagles and Eastons for ice Roller pants: Tour, unify pro, some other team pants Elbows: Easton synergy NHL 700 Gloves: Easton EPros Shins: Easton stealth S9 PS Skates: true tf9/sprung and tf9/tuuks Sticks: z bubble shafts with ak27 Gionta retail blades
  2. May I ask what size and line you wear in Bauer/CCM? Would love to hear your comparison to custom Trues as well
  3. Yeah I think he told me that once he paid off the machine he stopped charging the guys on the team. Other players he charges them a few bucks though, but I'm sure if he wanted to he could make decent money. That's actually really cool and probably more of a threat to pro shop business. Where I grew up there were a few rinks with full blown GD-style lot scenes before and after games. Drop a dude with a Sparx in his car into that environment and he will be paying his mortgage off early.
  4. Pretty much all the guys I play roller with are on a team together in an ice league. One guy bought a Sparx unit and that's what they all use. Nearest shop is by the rink about an hour from us. He paid off the machine in a couple seasons
  5. I think you might not need a wide. Your foot is the same width as his, but it's longer, so the larger size that you take might be ok in a regular width... Just food for thought
  6. Yeah I'm also undecided. To add to all that, I just saw a Dr. About some pain in a broken bone in my foot and tendons around my ankle. He said that it's most likely the stiffness of my boots on a sore area that was previously injured. I figured stiffer boots would be more supportive, but he said that if they're creating to mush pressure, I will feel it. He suggested less stiff/more comfortable boots. He also suggested I wear my old ankle brace, which doesn't fit into my 2s pros... I'm probably going to wait until local shop gets the Trues in to try them on since this is yet another factor to add into the mix. The only boots that ever were ok with the brace were Tours... In thinking that I might be able to mold the Trues around the brace and then remold them again if I stop wearing it.
  7. Just ordered a couple sets of Konixx Pures +2 for my sprungs. Hoping they do well on smooth/painted cement.
  8. What about width? I've heard tapered fit, wider in the forefoot than heel. Just wondering if it's more if a vapor or supreme fit or some combination.
  9. Exactly. I'm planning on getting a couple pairs. My only question now is what's the difference between widths. I need a somewhat wider forefoot, but I don't know if I can get that extra width from a D with a little bit of molding, or if I should jump up to an E. I guess I can just order both and return them. I'll have to check if the standard IW return policy applies here.
  10. Do you have a link for rebate program? Didn't see anything but I haven't really been following.. Regarding their move to knock down the price, my guess is that they're strategy is to make an offer that nobody can refuse. They need to flood the market with their skates to grab a chunk of the retail market. I think they are confident that once people get their feet in them they will be customers for life, so they just need to get feet in their skates. I think it's quite smart. You also have to factor in the fact that they've been selling full customs at 900 and making money, despite hand making the skates. This should give some idea of how much a Bauer or CCM skate is marked up. If Bauer and CCM are factory producing retails at the same price that True had been making custom lasts and skates by hand, their either True hasn't been making money or Bauer and CCM are laughing all the way to the bank.
  11. Yes. They aren't listed in their accessories page on the shop, but I think if you're in their system as a custom client then they will almost definitely help you get what you're looking for.
  12. My younger brother played on a very competitive LL baseball team and he used to wear the heart gard thingy. Not sure how much it worked but it gave my parents a sense of control, which I guess calmed their nerves. My father grew up playing competitive college and minor baseball in the 60s and 70s, so I would imagine my mother was the one who was more worried lol. My best friend died in 9th grade in the middle of football practice. Someone threw the ball at him between plays, he wasn't looking and it hit his chest and he just dropped dead. They thought for a long time that something like that was the cause, but it turned out that he had a heart defect that just gave out, and they think it was just a bizarre coincidence, but not causative. But, I digress. Shoulder pads, yeah
  13. Depends what exactly you're looking for. If you're looking for a specific tongue that you just want to have the Velcro thing installed, any hockey repair shop can do that if you get your hands on the tongues you want. If you're looking for Trues you should be able to get them from true directly. And if you're looking for customs then BAHR in SF does it or Nash sports in Canadia. Also check sls. I've seen a bunch of people trying to sell custom tongues with the True Velcro system.
  14. Yep, this is what I heard as well. 3x for Bauer, 4x for CCM. Didn't hear about the new models being good for 6x though. Thanks for the info
  15. Ha Black Ice got past the Snipers without PJ, Matt White, Terry and Cannone lol. And Redman had to borrow someone's else's pads for some reason. Still nice to see the LI teams in it. Roadrunners played like crap honestly. They looked so intimidated
  16. Like someone said, drill another home right beneath the end of the crack so it can't spread. I'd just contact psh and try to get a partial refund and use them, but if you play with guys who can shoot and it itches your peace of mind, then just return them. To me the peace of mind is there biggest plus of good pads.
  17. Anyone playing this year or watching? Last updates I got were Roadrunners and Black Ice in the finals. Live stream link
  18. Yeah, care to elaborate. Not crazy about the look, but helmets in general are functional first.
  19. Dude, they are 15$ wheels. Your measuring this by the Australian shop which had to import them from Europe, which imports them from the US, which doesn't even sell them. In Australia they're marked up like crazy, but in Europe they're 15 bucks. If you try calling RR, which is based out of Rhode island, they will probably get you a set if there are any in the US. They're a small company and the guys all love hockey and are really great about trying to help with anything they can. They'll probably cost you less than 13$ if you can get a set from here. It's still double the asphalts, but if they are either more durable or better performing or both, you can decide if that's worth it. In an interesting turn off events, the wood rink near me actually switched the flooring to smooth painted cement over the covid shutdown, so I'll probably try pures+2. Hopefully they'll perform well. Thinking to use a harder wheel in the back since my rear wheel gets destroyed with the sprungs
  20. And then Bauer rebranded the M11...
  21. I rarely play ice hockey and if I do it's organized pickup or subbing for higher leagues for guys on my roller teams who play ice together. That said, my general calculation is pretty simple. If I don't make a play because my pads are too restrictive, I'll probably be upset for a few minutes, maybe a day if it was a really big or critical play. If I get hurt because I didn't have sufficient padding, I'm going to be pissed and it's going to affect me for much longer. So I prefer more padding. That said, the only shoulders I own are Eagle Aero pros, which are not heavy duty pads, but that's mainly because I barely play. If I would play regularly I would definitely use more protective. Obviously I'm not trying to play hockey in a straight jacket, but I wouldn't ever sacrifice protection. I have little kids to run around after and work to get to. It's just not worth it. I also have had multiple shoulder surgeries.
  22. For reference, True had put out retail stock in junior sizes for a while. They have always been medium volume boots with a wider forefoot and tapered but not narrow heel. I would imagine the adult stock skates will be similar. Looking forward to trying them on though, since that's exactly my foot shape.
  23. Some of have to wash gear the old fashioned way... And for some reason you can always kinda smell the other dude, no matter how many times you wash it. I bought one pair of used shins once. Never again. All I can say is that I had some mice infesting my kitchen. After I left those pads out there were no more mice. True story
  24. Whichever stinks less, since they're pretty similar design from what I remember. I had CL that I sold pretty quickly for some reason and rbz 150, which was not top of the line. They were similar style though. I would just pick whichever are less stinky. Sounds funny but I find used pads to be gross. I guess if you have no choice you gotta do what you gotta do
