  1. They should just go to composite or metal with a maximum allowable COR like they do with golf clubs. Require the manufacturer to certify that it is legal before shipping with large penalties for shipping an illegal bat and spot check each team randomly.
  2. Just finished six days of flying, get home at midnight. I have a 90 minute drive tomorrow morning for a USAH ref clinic that starts at 8AM and a 12 hour day of work on Sunday.
  3. I would feel bad about finding this funny if I wasn't already on an express train to hell. Not safe for work language. http://strangebeaver.com/2010/09/tourettes-karaoke/
  4. Without quiet parts, the loud parts just don't seem as loud. You lose a lot of dynamics when you compress everything and crank it up. Nice video, the band does a pretty good job in the end. It takes more time, but it produces a better product in the end.
  5. Taco's are fairly tough vehicles, glad to hear you are ok. Hopefully you enjoy your new car.
  6. It started with pop stuff and drum machines a long time ago, but they've only recently decided to remove the soul from just about every recording.
  7. For the most part, it's virtuosity for the sake of virtuosity. Most progressive stuff is like that and it's also why it is rarely a commercial success. As much as I used to like them, you rarely find yourself humming their tunes when you're doing something else. It's great stuff, but it just doesn't stick with you as much as more simple musical fare so often does.
  8. Most recordings anymore fit the beat to the click so they can cut and paste things more easily on the computer. It's the loss of "swing" and feel in songs that makes them sound so sterile. When I was working in the studio, that was my preferred method. Record the band live until you get a good take, then punch in any dubs. Obviously it does depend on the band and the style, but most bands put out a better recording that way. A lot of players just aren't comfortable with the method of building a song track by track and you lose a lot of energy in the song.
  9. He'll probably make a few more bucks at the new gig. As much as I like DT, it's not like they are selling out stadiums and millions of discs right now. I met Mike a couple times when I was still in radio and he was great to me, really friendly and welcoming.
  10. I broke an 8 iron at the range a few years ago, shaft snapped about six inches up from the blade on the follow through and clocked me in the back of the head. Worst part is it was a tri-gold shaft and they were club specific, I ended up replacing it with a dynamic gold S300.
  11. I haven't been able to hit my driver for a while, it's my go-to club off the tee on par fours and fives.
  12. Broke my 4 iron today. The shaft snapped just above the hosel and the head ended up 90 yards down the fairway.
  13. Drunks at concerts. Some jackass was so hammered that he was stumbling around and running over everyone. Stepped on my foot and fell into my leg, re-injuring my sprained ankle that was finally almost completely healed. Later he kicked over a couple of our drinks and during the encore, he ends up falling down on the lawn chair we had with us (lawn section, amphitheater) and broke it. He did the same types of things to a few other people around us too.
  14. I always hated dealing with that stuff when I was a network admin. Rather than deal with individual desktops, I just blacklisted sites that got too much traffic.
  15. 100/75 I would give it at least two skates, but it will just take a couple extra passes to put the added depth back on for a traditional ROH.
  16. Well, you're in the right place. It's like an AA group for hockey equipment, except we never quit.
  17. most of my guys that were on half inch went to 100/50
  18. Quite a bit of NSFW language, pretty much sums up my weekend.
  19. A lot of people like them because they offer different cuts and they're as good as anything else out there.
  20. If you note, my objection was to giving a discount simply so someone could experiment. It had nothing to do with squeezing every last drop of blood and was simply just not giving away a service for free. I fixed issues caused by my partner or the one guy that I didn't train for free a couple times, that's something every shop should do. As for the nickle and diming, shops have to deal with customers that use their shop as a fitting room for online purchases, it's very easy to see how some can develop an adversarial relationship with some people. Consumables may only be $100, but the machines aren't cheap. Nor are the rest of the costs that go into running a shop. That said, I never charged extra for anything other than new skates purchased somewhere else or severely abused slates that took a long time to fix. Like the Amish guy that used a bench grinder to make a point on the bottom of the skate.
  21. Click tracks and pro tools have ruined the recording industry almost as much as autotune, they just did it more subtly.
  22. Why should the shop take a hit on your experimentation? Do you get to use a bunch of different sticks until you find the right curve or flex?
  23. If he has complaints, try the hollow that may help resolve the complaint. There is no "best", other than what makes you feel the most comfortable.
  24. With all the weight I gained and conditioning lost sitting around with a concussion over the winter, I feel like a slug out there. I appreciate the compliment, but I know what I'm capable of doing and not being able to do that is very frustrating to me personally. As for taping, I tried that before the game and it didn't really help. Nor did trying the stiffer RBK skates, in fact, the stiffness caused more pain. I do have some neoprene wraps that I use when I'm home, but they don't fit well in a shoe or skate. In your case, something like a neoprene wrap or bunga pad would probably help if the pain is coming from rubbing on the surface. If it's just pain, then you might want to see a doctor as it really shouldn't be lingering this long. Friendly pick up groups are a great alternative in cases like this. At least you know those guys aren't going to try and kill you to win a t-shirt for being the league champs.
