  1. Longer edges wear down faster/have the ability to get bruised easier. I used to sharpen my skates every time I skated with ROH - I have my own machine and I sharpen less frequently now.
  2. Tired of getting rejected for jobs. I really think it is time for me to give up on hockey altogether. 10 years in the industry and it has taken me absolutely nowhere.
  3. Done with Summer Jam, on with Winterfest VI...

  4. Thanks - been needing a DP pic to put on our banner. It's only fitting we honor him.
  5. The black elastic band on top of the cuff roll is the mouthguard holder.
  6. Think that would be better suited for Show It Off, not Custom Glove Gallery.
  7. But it is implying bite. Why make a complicated shape for someone to have the same feeling they had before? Like I've told everyone who has tried FBV - you will have something that will remain constant, and you will gain something you didn't have before. So, for some people (not many), you match the glide. But now, they have gained bite. For most people, you match the bite, but they have gained glide.
  8. While it may feel like 1/2", the difference is it doesn't perform like 1/2".
  9. Follow the sparks. If you're only doing your skates, obviously sharpening immediately will get it dead on from the last one, or at least very close to it. Coming from another skate, especially one that is uneven, just sharpen and the wheel will always hit the uneven edge first because it is a higher point. Unfortunately, when you do witness marks, what happens is you look at it and you're like "Well, it's not centered, because it hit all the way on the bottom (or top)." Then you adjust, and when you are done, you're left with the opposite result. I've always said witness marks are only good if you did the previous sharpening. You know the hollow, you know how tight the clamp was, you know the position in the skate holder. So, sharpen away, and follow the sparks on the wheel. It will give you a good indication on levelness.
  10. Yankees' death trifecta is complete - Ralph Houk died. Played for the Yanks, and managed/GMd in the 60s.
  11. He signed a 2 yr deal with St. Louis, $1.8M and $2.5M for the second year.
  12. I mark my top knob with a notch to denote thickness. With the RR I turn the knob counterclockwise 3/4 turn, then clamp the blade. After that if I am not mistaken it is possibly 12 clicks (as it is 6 clicks to get it to move up a line)
  13. Yep. I made it. Yeah, I would imagine they would change it all now that George died.
  14. Actually, he was on ESPN today. He actually had nice things to say about him. In his HOF Induction speech Winfield said he and George patched things up.
  15. You failed the answer the question. While it may be a flawed system, any owner can whatever they want with their franchise. Must I bring up Carl Pohlad? Bigger net worth at his death than Steinbrenner's at his death (3.6B to 1.1B according to Forbes) yet when MLB brings up contraction, is first to raise his hand and willing to kill off the Twins for $150M because "we're a small market team." Doesn't the "Gotta spend money to make money" adage not apply? There are tons more owners in MLB who do the exact same, yet have no qualms about receiving a handout from MLB luxury tax. The fact is this - Steinbrenner made it a business. And every move he made, even in the painful 80s for a kid like me, in his mind, thought was going to give him a championship. As a fan of a team, you really couldn't ask for anything more.
  16. The Yankees operated well into the black before YES came around. YES was a by-product of the team's success - why criticize him for having the foresight? He wanted to win, and he spared no expense in trying to achieve that goal. And he didn't go broke doing it.
  17. Received some ruby wheels for my X02 = LOVE. Sharpened with it last night and dressed great, healthy sparks and everything.
