the_game replied to cougarscaptain87's topic in Roller Hockey Equipment

The only issue I had with the toebox was it stiff & rigid prior to baking, almost like putting my forefoot in a vice grip. Once I baked the skate and skated in the CA9 RPD over a period of time, I do not have any issue with the width or stiffness in the forefoot of the skate. Additionally, I never experienced any discomfort caused by friction from the connection between the boot & the toe cap.

I am of the group that went up a size from the Bauer APX compared to the Alkali, in my APX I am a 7.5 went with an 8 in the Alkali and the fit is perfect. In regards to the width of the CA9, I think the baking here is the key. If they are too narrow, baking them is gonna open up them so much. The advice about standing after the bake was they key factor for me & changed the whole fit of the skate. I think if the boot is a little wide, the baking process is going to wrap your foot as well. I apologize for not updating my LTR, I've been on the CA9 a ton and am going to provide some more thoughts & also get some quality pics of the chassis placement for folks.

Check out my Long Term Review on the Alkali CA9 RPD as I cover the topic of how the chassis is mounted. On the RPD it does seem to be mounted a little bit further but as Justin has said to me, Alkali tries to mount their chassis as far back as possible on the boot.

I can't I've never worn an RBK skate so I can't really comment on which way you're gonna want to go with sizing. I can tell you without a doubt that you are going to want to bake the CA9 RPD.

You are right on the money with the sizing for the RPD's, I've got the same set up with a size 7.5 APX & size 8 RPD. The out of the box volume should not worry you, the way the RPD is going to open up after baking and the way it molds to your foot will solve the volume issue. I'll be covering the forward pitch and all 80 set up in the next part of my Long Term Review on the RPD's so be sure to check that out.

2013 Easton Hockey Catalogue
the_game replied to JR Boucicaut's topic in 2013 Product Catalogue Reviews
Guess I'll be buying another Mako shaft...unless Easton decides to offers their 'Darby' pro curve at retail. -
Those gloves are a thing of beauty Krev. I can always take an eBay loss better when I know the item goes to a fellow MSH member. I wanted those Modano gloves so bad I actually considered selling my Cooper Techniflex Glove collection to finance the purchase.

Hey Vet88, I believe Labeda would be the one to contact here & not Justin/Alkalai. Rob from Labeda is on the board here from time to time and does a great job helping folks out w/ issues like these. Just please keep in mind the Summer Roller season is coming up so most companies will be busy.

Um, I'm on Modsquad and know way too much about Hockey gear than any healthy human being should? Easton 'Darby' pattern = Warrior Vanek pattern = Bauer P89 pattern. Once upon a lifetime ago I had a connection to get me Pro Stock Synergy's with the Darby pattern, that dried up until Warrior started making the Vanek Pattern (innovative Mogilny too if I remember correctly), then the Bauer Customizer came out and I saw the P89 was exactly the same. Warrior stopped offering the Vanek at retail and I cannot use Bauer One-pieces, so I started looking for options. Figuring custom one-pieces from Easton or Warrior would either be impossible to order and rather expensive I asked a certain shop that I know what they could do for me for ordering a 'Pro' spec pattern, they said they could do the Bauer P89 no problem, minimum 6, so I went with that.

As far as I know Tapered Bauer P89 blades are not available as a retail offering. The P89 is however available for college, custom, & pro orders, etc, you just need to find a dealer to order them for you. I was able to find a dealer to order me the Bauer P89 tapered blades, the minimum was a half dozen so thats what I went with. I'm still looking for a decent shaft to go with the blades though.

4 Stitches in my leg. How you ask? I blew a tire and went into the boards and somehow managed to have the heel of my right skate blade cut the inner thigh of my left leg. It gets worse, it was on my 3rd shift of the game & there was no one within 20 feet of me.

Justin, Could you give a better idea in regards to the Alkali CA9 team duffle bag, are there any compartments within the bag for skates, etc? And also, is there a difference between "Heavy duty Tarpaulin" compared to another companies "Laminated Tarpaulin"? Thanks

Hey Sdcopp, Can you comment or give a more in depth description on the rake of the boot and how it feels/impacts your skating, etc? I understand it keeps you on the balls of your feet more, but does it impact your knee band at all in your stride/turning? thanks

LFOD, As a fellow hockey gear nut in the same age bracket as you, those Graf 300's are money. I'm sure Graf gloves were one of the most popular during our time as kids, I know I went through 2 pairs, awesome to still see a pair kicking around in such good shape,
