One thing I really don't like is teams can go from being garbage to contenders overnight,

That aspect is in my opinion the number one reason to have a cap. It forces the talent to be spread around. The whole league will be more evenly matched. More games will be decided through coaching, and effort. A Wild vs Blackhawks game will no longer be a snoozefest. No teams will start a season expecting to not make the playoffs.

How is that not a good thing?

No loyalty to the teams. Players up and leave at the drop of a hat. This year, and probably the next one or two, should be a little different than the rest. It will take time for teams to settle in and get used to it, but if every year is like this, I'm not a big fan.

Any word on what Alison is getting? I think he may be looped into the injury bonus clause where it won't hit the cap at all. Maybe 1ish if they go the bonus route, 1.5 they don't.

I'm hoping the Leafs don't go after a D. Give Cola and Pilar a chance this year. If they wanted a D, they should've dropped Berg.

As reported by Sportstalk on CKNW radio -- a reliable source, for those not familiar with the program -- Vancouver Canucks top scorer and captain Markus Naslund re-signed with the club on Tuesday night. Contract details will apparently be released tomorrow.

I don't understand all the fuss around Nieds. I think over the past few years he has been one of the most overrated players in the NHL. He has been fortunate enough to play in NJ which is very solid defensively. Plus it doesn't help that he is backed up by Brodeur. I think if he had to play on a team who didn't trap like the Devils, his defensive skills wouldn't seem so impressive.

i think his offensive side is more of an attraction than scott's defensive side. he's shown sparks in the past of being a fantastic rushing d-man. he has the wheels to do it too. take him out of the trap crazy devils system and he'll shine. despite playing in that system, i think he's pretty good defensively. at least a certain + player.

The Devils system is perfect for him. His speed allows him to rush the puck there, everyone cover, most of his rushes come with little support. He doesn't have to think, which he showed at the World Cup he can't do, and they give him free reign offensively. Do what you want at their end, do these 2-3 things in our end, and were good.

Why would Van want him? Ohlund, Jovo, Sopel? He can't fill many of their roles. I really believe this will be a terrible year for him. I'm thinking he'll put up similar numbers to Berard.

Seems like he's off his game alot in international play. Pronger and Blake would eat up alot of his playing time. He was a #1 for Canada this year, but played like a #4. Only time will tell, but I am confident he is not as strong defensively as people belief. Offensively, he'll put up numbers, but after that, I have serious doubts about his leadership and defense. I expect him to be offered the max. He may take 6 mill from someone, but he'll recieve offers of over $7.5. He's put in a category where he should be one of the best D in the league, when really, he isn't. Guys like Blake and Pronger, Redden and (god I hate myself) Chara, produce on many more levels than he does.

Montreal has enough soft scorers with Dagenais/Ribiero. At least Kovalev has the ability to give/take a hit (although he doesn't always)...Satan can go to NJ....just for the headline.
