I'm not sure if you're aware that the first band Clapton was in that hit was the Yardbirds. Then Cream, Blind Faith, session work in Delaney & Friends and, finally, Derek and the Dominos. He then had a hiatus (I think due to drugs), before friends talked him into doing a concert (Rainbow Bridge, I think.) That apparently spurred him to go solo.

What a career he's had, huh?

One of my all-time favorites. I have Layla and the Blind Faith Albums on vinyl. The one that got banned in the US. Most people don't know that Steve Winwood was the singer in Blind Faith.

This past week a local radio station played the Top 50 albums as voted by the listeners. Sgt. Pepper's was third behind Joshua Tree and Dark Side of the Moon at number one.

What I found interesting is they played interviews by George Harrison and Ringo, in which they said the album was supposed to be a concept album, but after recording "With A Little Help From My Friends" they said screw it. They said that perhaps the theme of the album artwork, along with Sgt. Pepper's reprising may have made it seem like a concept album, but they actually quit on an album entirely about the journey of Sgt Pepper early in the recording process.

the new Boys Night Out cd called trainwreck is like American Idiot, the whole cd is a story. some guy gets in a crash, almost dies, doctors try to save him etc etc, it's a pretty wicked album.

American Pie-Don McLean

Live like you were dying-Tim McGraw

Escape-Rupert Holmes

It wasn't me-Shaggy

All Apologies-Nirvana

Couple off the top of my head, that I guess I can relate to in some way which sort of makes them stories I guess, it's hard because I think most songs are a story to an extent.

Smoke on the Water-Deep Purple

An outstanding choice, particularly since it is based on the band's experience.

It's funny, but it's hard to come up with "stories." I've been driving around the last few days going through songs in my head, and wondering, "Well is that a story, or just a song about nothing in particular?...."
