RE: Announcers: Jim Hughson did play-by-play but I never found out who was doing color. Hughson can put the blinders on, for sure, but the color guy brought very little to the table. who was the color guy?

Rematch is tonight in Calgary. Load your guns boys, its gonna get rough!!

With Hughson you never hear the color guy.

Hughson seems to be the colour guy. All he does is talk and never does any play-by-play. <_<

When I watch hockey with Hughson (play-by-play) and Millen (colour) on CBC, it seems like there is so much gabbing at each break in the action that there is information overload. Both want to make points or analysis during the shorter breaks in the action. Maybe the director or producer is working on that in the truck...

It used to be Cuthbert (play-by-play) with Millen (colour), and that was a good combo because Cuthbert knew when to be quiet; he let Millen be the expert opinion, and "tee'd him up" for some really good comments.

Maybe it will just take some time for Hughson and Millen to mesh their styles.

Might as well cut Millen, Hugheson and his ego are a tandem and any other people in the booth create a problem.

notice when he say phanuef begin to fall he turned his head and went to the bench...if you look at his arm, he def. gave a tug, but not enough so that phanuef should have fallen like that. :o

For those of you that think Ruutu isn't pulling on Phaneuf's leg, why do you think that one leg goes way up in the air, and why do you think Ruutu's stick comes back so fast? His stick comes flying back at him, because he was pulling on the back of his leg. Its so obvious.

That's what I saw as well.

Oh good lord, why do I keep visiting this thread? You guys slay me. Hate the Canucks as much as you want, but that won't repeal the laws of physics. Ruutu must have some wicked upper body strength to send Dion flying like that without moving his arm. Watch Ruutu's right elbow: No motion, at least not what's needed to up end a 200 lb man. I'm surprised you guys haven't accused him of being the cause of cancer, and the shooter on the grassy knoll, too.

I'm only going to say this one more time

RUUTU DID NOT TRIP PHANEUF.

IF you watched the game you will KNOW that Phaneuf was assessed a 2 minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct for dropping his gloves on that play and trying to goud Ruutu into a fight.

What is my point? One of the ref's MUST have witnessed that play to asses the penalty, MEANING if Ruutu did in fact TRIP/INTERFERE with Phaneuf, he also would have been assessed a penalty. This WAS NOT the case.

Regardless of if you like Ruutu or not, Phaneuf fell on his own and that is the END OF THE STORY

Like someone mentioned earlier Ruutu fought earlier in the game, and actually kicked Ritchie's(?) ass pretty good. In addition, it was a pretty heated game where there was alot of that crap going on and alot of the Flames seemed to fight whenever they felt like it. Linden got jumped, and Goren was forced to fight and it actually cost them a great scoring oppurtunity. So I am not going to jump on Ruutu for this at all, it probably would've worked out better if he fought Phaneuf. I mean Ruutu's 4th line energy and Phaneuf is a top 2 D-man. From the initial replays I saw, Ruutu's stick wasn't near him and Phaneuf fell on his own. Obviously this replay shows a much different story, so I don't know what to believe on that. I actually looked at Phaneuf's legs when I saw it on TV and didn't notice anything at all.

From that video. Ruutu's stick is inbetween Phaneuf's legs.Dion was transitioning backwards the stick got caught under his knee, and the fact of Ruutu turned to go to the bench and because of Dion's speed he lost his balance and fell.

ok what i remember seeing when i first saw it, the stick he tripped over was a Synergy ST grip (bright green, kinda hard to miss) but Ruutu uses a vapor xxx, correct me if i'm wrong but Phaneuf tripped over his own stick

yes Ruutu did kick Ritchies ass (i think it was him anyways)

I realize I'm probably just going to get flamed (on pun intended) and called a blind Canucks fan, but Ruutu did not trip Phaneuf. The replay on CBC clearly showed that when Dion threw his stick down he stepped on the blade of it and took a tumble. A player at that level does not take a fall like that because someone tugged at his knee. That fall is the type that occurs when you have the "rug pulled out from under you", such as if you step on a puck or on a stick blade. Just as a second piece of evidence, if Ruutu had pulled something like that, I think you would've seen a very angry Phaneuf. He looked pretty embarrassed when he got up and tried to quietly pick up his gloves and stick and move on. So there it is, that is the absolute truth, now go ahead and rip me if you like. However, I'm not a blind Canucks fan, I love Dion Phaneuf and have followed him closely since he started playing for Red Deer...but that was one play that Dion is gonna look back on and laugh at.

I think we are all seeing something different here, and we are not going to be able to convince the other side whether he was tripped or not. It seems about half see it both ways, I don't know if one half are Canuck fans, and the other are Flames, but I don't think we are going to get a concensus.

I saw that yesterday, and what a joke Ruutu is.  A player who will break you with a check and then when the marbles are the table he won't fight you.

And doing something like that could really hurt someone.  Break an arm or something.

he had a fight on saturday but for the most part ya you are right he mostly plays the agitator role. And i am a canucks fan and it looked like he did get his stick between the legs to trip up phaneuf

I do not think that anyone, I don't care how big you are, could trip an NHL player, especially Phaneuf, with one hand on the stick.

If his stick would have gotten stuck there while Phaneuf was falling, that would be a different story. He definitely fell on his own.

Next time you meet an NHLer, shake his hand(which is usually the size of an oven mitt) and then feel how strong it is, with the grip that could strangle you. Now add that strength to his stick and with the snap twist of his wrist, oh yeah an NHLer could pull a player down with one arm. Isn't Dion skating backwards when the behind the knee tug is pulled? One arm, one twist, on the ice.

He obviously pulls his stick, pretty vaginal move, but I guess some players you just expect stuff like that from.

LMAO

As Grinder said on page one, a classic case of a rookie getting his head jerked around by a veteran agitator -- regardless of how he fell.

That looks like a pretty blatant trip to me...I'm not going to say anything about risk of injury or anything like that, because, to be honest with you, it really doesn't look that bad. But, I am going to say that's a pretty chicken-shit way to get out of a fight...
