Chadd 916 Report post Posted March 20, 2010 i dont know, i was being totally facetious... the dude said "three double minors" when he meant "three minors for 6m"... when it comes down to it, i dont even think a 12 minute penalty exists, unless you get 2 and 10. in which case the ten doesnt count against the team. so, you're absolutely right, he'd get tossed and probably given 5 and a game on the scoresheet. The person in question has cleared up the confusion already. In any case, USA Hockey (he was from St Louis) the only penalty that you can give a double minor for is roughing. Everything else is a 2, 5 or 5+game. Also since a double minor is actually treated as two penalties, three doubles would earn a game misconduct as well.
shotty 7 Report post Posted March 20, 2010 but the question remains: can you achieve three roughing penalties in one play for a triple-double minor????

top 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2010 My team mate fought this guy. After everything was all said and done the linesman gave me the OK to go pickup my team mates gloves elbow pads etc. I was bringing the stuff over to our bench, while i was bringing the stuff over, the other team was chirping me since our guy got pumped, and the bench's are side by side in this arena..... Anyways i bring the stuff over to the trainer. The ref randomly decides to bolts it across the ice from the penalty box to tell the other teams bench to shut up, then he asks the OTHER linesman what was going on, this is the linesman who wasn't paying attention to what was going on. Long story short, i got a three game suspension, one game for AGG37 (Aggressor), and two games for a GRM61 (Gross Misconduct). I didn't say one flipping word, not even one, and i get the boot for nothing. Anyways, we were watching the game video after the game, it clearly showed that i did absolutely nothing, and what happened had nothing to do with me so our team protested the call, entended up getting reversed, so in the end i didn't get suspended everything worked out but what a mess. When my team first joined the local league we would get all our powerplays cut down because teams would just make a real slow line change on any faceoff. Eventually we picked up on it and have started doing it too sometimes. I would love for this not to be an issue.
Hawes_4 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2010 Hit a guy behind the net along the boards, guy kept going and I stayed along side and hit him again. I got called 2minutes for Butt End Hooking. Never heard of that penalty before that night, but it is easy enough to make sense of it. Funny thing is that I hold the butt end of my stick in the middle of my palm, so I see it kind of hard to hook a guy with it.

The league I play in uses the same rule.

goalie30 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2010 2 come to mind for me (note I'm the goalie for both there). First one...shot from out a ways hits the crossbar and drops straight down, so the puck is sitting on the goal line. I cover it up, and then see the ref signal goal. I questioned the call, saying it was on the line, and he said "yeah, it broke the plane". I was going to lose it if he called 10 yards and loss of down on a holding penalty.2nd one...play blown dead on an icing, I head behind the net to stop the puck and shoot it to the ref on the far end. An opposition player plows into me, but he's the one that falls over. I get called for roughing. At intermission, I asked the ref "If I understand, the rulebook states that an opposing player must make every effort to avoid the goalie at all times. Did he make any effort at all?", to which the ref said "well, but you put your shoulder into him". Oh, by all means, I'll just let him run over me next time.Matt

docar15 1 Report post Posted March 29, 2010 Puck is under the lower part of my pad, inside leg, I am on a side after a desperate pad stack. Some F**r just hacks and pushes my pad till it crosses the line. Refs explanation later was that he wanted to make sure I had control of the puck.
Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted March 29, 2010 Next time you catch a shot, just tell the opposition to pick you up and throw you into the net along with the puck -- that's equally legal.
TheGasman 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2010 The ref gave the other team a goal last season on a wrap a round that hit the side of the net. I was playing D and stopped him before it hit the goalies stick. The ref was on the other side of the goal so he didnt have good sight of it. I thought maybe I was crazy but the other ref agreed with me. We ended up losing in OT that game.
furlanitalia 1 Report post Posted March 29, 2010 All these goalie stories brought one to mind - playing d the puck is shot at the goalie and he falls on it so it's under his leg and just barely sticking out. Everyone stops playing thinking the whistle is going to go and an opposing player starts whacking at it. I put my stick over it just to show that it's covered and the other two forwards start whacking at it. Half my team is looking at the ref when our goalie eventually gets pushed out of the way, the puck pops loose and they put it in. Ref said he wasn't going to blow it unless he was sure he had the puck, even though play stopped dead for 5 seconds when no one could see it.
BuckleyHockey15 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 Picking up the puck along the boards in my own zone and trying to take it behind the net to set up a breakout, and a forward on the other team, literally hugs me and brings me down lies on top of me for a good 5 seconds i finally get up and his stick happens to be at my skates when i get up and accidentally kick it away. i get the penalty for unsportsmanlike and he gets nothing for bear hugging me and taking me down...to top it off my coach was pissed and he didnt even see what happened. Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 Mine happened while playing basketball; I never touched the guy as he went to the basket, but still I was called.....
zachary 2 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 My game on friday my winger dropped the puck back to me in our D zone at the corner boards and I got it and threw it around behind the net and my center was cutting towards the net next to me and as he turned to face the net this guy blindsides him even though he never touched the puck. So I saw what number the kid was and looked down at my teammate and he was just layin face down. I followed the guy to his bench and hit him from behind after the play right in front of his team, as I did that someone on the bench grabbed my cage from the bench and pulled my head back so I just dropped and had like 4 people taking swings at me. It turns out they just gave me a fighting major when I threw zero punches and got jumped by 4 players and even had 2 jump over the bench to attack me. Got one of their guys kicked out but I in return got kicked out for fighting when I never once swung at anyone. Kinda bogus. It was a really chippy game with 3 players on each side ending up with DQs. 5 min into the first I had a kid full out with 2 feet kick me while he was laying down. He got ejected but luckily I didn't dive bomb him like I was going to.
