Chew...

Recommended Posts

Guys on my senior team do it, but spit into a bottle, also 44 wannabe (on msh) is on my team and is partial to a good chew! I think it's pretty nasty though

Dam right :P Seriously though i was up to about half a tin a day and it hurt my gums to drink juice/anything acidic. So now im down to 3 or 4 dips a day, still trying to go lower. My GF HATES it so another to reason to quit because i get nothing if i do it in front of her, if you know what i mean

I agree with what the other guys have said, just quit now. I've been dipping skoal for 10 years now (since 17) and am currently in the process of quiting, like JR said it isn't easy. At $4 a can, at least one can a day, it makes me sick just thinking about the money I've wasted over the years that could have been used for other things.

one can a day for 10 years at $4 a can is $14,600

Think of all the cool hockey stuff you could get with that.

honestly chadd?

I have never argued anything youve ever said and i want to know whyy

you always have reasons for what you sayyy

There is no health benefit from dipping or whatever people in your area call it. There is a chance it can cause serious health problems and no decent chick wants to get nasty with any guy who has a mouth full of dirt. ;)

Plus - 0

Minus - everything

Pretty simple decision to me.

dip increases dangles by 33%

Quit now

No kidding! :o

There's absolutely NO reason to dip. If you need to "chew" anything, buy some gum.

Chewing vs Smoking Facts

Not advocating either here but i just thought i'd throw up some facts. I do dip about half a tin a day and in no way think it benefits me at all.

The article you linked to was published in 1995 before use of the nicotine patch was common for quitting smoking.

The article basically advocates using smokeless tobacco as a stop-smoking aid but touts it as having minimal health risk.

It is total BS as it is not a commonly shared view in the medical community.

On that note, here's a nice brochure from the American Cancer Society.

I think I tried Skoal once, maybe twice, when I was sixteen.

After seeing the ACS brochure you just posted, am I glad I didn't like the taste or the jitteriness I got from the stuff!

a sacrifice true hockey boys make

I realize you are speaking tongue-in-cheek, but there's a tendency to feel invincible when we're young. Or maybe it's hard to appreciate the 10-20 years we might lose 40 years from now due to our actions today. But I can guarantee every one of our younger colleagues on the board that, particularly as you establish families, you won't want to give up even a minute.

I'm 43 and, in four months, I'll have outlived my father. I don't know this for sure, but I imagine the last few months of his life, when he knew he was terminal, he was probably constantly questioning himself about what he could have done differently earlier in his life.

A buddy of mine used to dip quite a bit. It destroyed his gums so much his dentist told him if he didn't quit he wouldn't have his teeth much longer.

that would be a terrible way for your parents to find out you dip. or even worse if they find out becuase you had mouth cancer.

Good advice here. I'll try to keep it in mind...

of course im sarcastic but a dip a day will take like 40 years to kill you

In some cases it will never kill you. In other it can take much less than 40 years and even if it doesn't kill you it can adversely affect your quality of life.
