You'd be first generation if you or your brothers/sisters were the first in the family to play, second generation if your dad/mom were the first in the family to play, and third generation if your grandfather/grandmother were the first in the family to play.

It depends on how you count. On my side of the family, I'm first-generation; my dad took me to see Huskies games when I was a kid in Iowa, but we never played or anything (I don't even think we ever went ice skating).

My wife's grandfather was big into hockey, though; I think he was a pro (though not in the NHL, in the minor leagues) for a while. I never met him, since he died before we got together.

Im the first generation that I know of.. I was raised in MN, so im sure that SOMEBODY in my roots played. It will be a long lasting tradition on my family. My girlfriend (who I will end up marrying) plays too, so its a good foundation to build on.

second generation. I come from a big family (14 aunts/uncles on my fathers side) we use to organize a game every year nephews and uncles. it was a good showing every year. The old men caught us by surprise a couple times.

You know Canadiens, only 2 things to do in cold weather, play hockey and fornicate!

Second generation, my dad and uncles all played hockey. My dad, stopped playing hockey after finishing college, and then restarted about 2-3 years after i began playing. My dad being a goalie, can lead to some fun competion at times.

Let's see: my kid started playing before me; I got into it as an adult soon afterward, so does that make us both first generation, or is she first generation and me second, or vice versa?

My brother and I are first generation. I followed my older brother onto the ice. He played baseball at University of Vermont in early 70s and found his future wife. End of hockey and baseball career. I continued on in hockey and was more afraid of a baseball than a hockey puck. I'll die with my skates on. No kids to follow in my footsteps. My brother's sons played in Massachusetts(Division 2 State Champs in 2000).

My dad and uncle started playing in high school, they won a state championship, and both played in college. Now my cousin and my two brothers are the only ones to play.
