KOR Shift 1 and 2

Just out of curiousity... what's the reason for mounting plates?

Cost savings? Weight Savings?

And is there any downside to mounting plates?

Who knows. It doesn't benefit anything.

Are the Shift 2's being marketed as a better skate then the 1's? Or is it pretty much the same skate as the shift 1's with a higher cut?

Same skate with a higher cut. They have figured out how to lighten the skate and are able to mount the blades with rivets now though.

I actually think the mounting plate is a good idea, the starred part of the rivets probably grip that better than they would do on carbon. Just a guess that's why they did it, to keep rivets from loosening.

Yes, but it didn't have to be that thick.

Like I said, I haven't been able to take it apart. It could very well be that they couldn't find a rivet small enough to work. But what I mean that there's no benefit, is that it was most likely done out of necessity, not a perk.

Anyone out there currently wearing Kors that have high arches (like Flexlite or 709 arches)? In other words, will these skates accomodate deep, wide feet??

Thanks

It'll accomodate pretty much any foot. Slightly narrow, wide, thick, thin, deep, shallow, high arch, low arch, no arch... the boot is very moldable, unlike any other out there. I have very high arches and wear Shift 1s with no arch trouble at all. Shift 2s might lose some of the extreme-molding capability because of the plates used to anchor the rivets--the bottom of the boot may not be able to mold as much as on the Shift 1. But at the hockey show a couple years ago, the KOR guys were able to mold a skate to fit a EEEE-width foot.

Just wondering, how can you make the KOR's wider? I got a pair of Shift 1's in size 6.5 thinking they were the same as a Bauer/Graf 6.5, but they were about a size too small, so I tore out the toe protector. But some areas still felt narrow, is there an easy way to heat this up for X minutes (I don't know if 5 minutes is enough for this skate) to make it wider and also make the length just slightly longer.

Thanks for any help on this. (onestoptoys@hotmail.com)

10 min bake.

What temperature should these be baked at? Can the LHS make the length 1/2 size bigger somehow? When I put my foot in, is there some way to press out certain sections or will the boot be flexible enough to mold itself?

Thanks for any help.

First impressions on the Shift 2 after a few skates (I had Shift 1's prior):

Weight - the Shift 2's are lighter but not "oh my" lighter - but you can feel a slight difference from the 1's and the 1's were not bricks by any means - they were pretty light to begin with. The 2's are light skates by any measure.

Support: The higher cut boot felt great and forward flex, at least to me, feels on par with the Shift 1's. So - I feel like they give the best of both worlds - good forward flex but excellent lateral stability and support. My Shift 1's are pretty beat so I'm sure going to a nice new boot has something to do with that feeling as well. The higher cut boot did not make me feel like I was restricted in my stride though which was a slight concern in the change from the 1's.

They feel very much like the Shift 1's in that you have a very solid - well fit base molded to your foot that makes the skate feel extremely precise. That was my first impression with the 1's was a feeling of precision and I got the same feel here with the 2's. Honestly - most other skates now feel a little sloppy and vague in comparison.

Comfort - excellent - no hot spots. Nice heel lock and a nice long protective tongue - longer than the 1's. Overall comfort - feels like a running shoe but with the support needed for a skate built in....just like the 1's felt.

Protection: same basic construction as the 1's and my 1's were bomb proof.

Negatives: None really. A small picky thing is I personally liked the built in footbeds on the 1's over the mounting plates / Superfeet insoles on the 2's. I am not aware of the reason for the switch but I assume it serves a purpose or the Kor crew would not have changed the design.

So far I'm digging the skate. The precision feel they provide gives you alot of confidence for hard turns etc. - you always know exactly what your edge is doing.

I thought the 1's were the best skate I have ever tried..the 2's look set to carry forth the same impression.

There is my 2 cents from a few skates. I'll let you guys know if my feelings change as I get more ice time on them or I see any problems arise.

220 degrees. They don't streth long very well. They will stretch on width.

what about the area near the toe cap? Will that part also stretch slightly?

Has anyone else worn the Shift 2 yet; I've noticed they're on Amazon for $499 US. Also, is the updated version of the Shift 1 still slated for release?

You might want to read the thread.. this post is 3 up from yours

probably has to do with the shipper they use and the size of the box.

If I wear a 10 Vapor xxx skate will I be a 10 in Kor? I want to buy the Shift 2's from Summit but they only have up to a size 10, from what Ive heard I would need a 10.5?
