Easton Helmet

Recommended Posts

We're talking CSA/HECC cert.

They don't need it to be certified to wear it in the NHL. They've paid the fee this year so if Lidstrom wanted to wear it in a game, he could.

Now the question of the day is - how soon until Total Hockey "pimps" this helmet?

haha, You should see their shop. I was there yesterday to buy some One90s(easy thing turned bad, got a 9 Left and an 8 Right which is being fixed tomorrow luckily) and they had 8ft or so banners advertising the PMS(Pimp My Skate) crap. Then every single color on the wall next to the skates has areas where not as much dye adhered and white shows through all over.

Thanks for the pics, JR. The angles and lines from the side view definitely give it a hint of "Questiness", IMO. Always great to have another choice in equipment.

It looks goofy on him because he's been wearing that HT2 since he's been in the league.

I almost didnt recognize him at first cause im so used to him wearing the CCM.

I think it is pretty slick looking.

Would be awesome if it's deep fitting, most helmets on the market sit too high on my head, only the Bauer 4000 has a decent fit.

Everything else makes my visor sit way too high.

Doesn't Lidstrom seem further away from retirement with the Easton helmet on? Maybe it's just me.

Does it really say PMS on a banner? cause that would be hilarious

I wonder what its unique selling proposition will be.

- Light?

- Vents?

- Fit?

- Materials?

- Innovation?

- Good quality for cheap?

As an outsider following this thread, right now I can't see anything that makes this bucket unique.

It's an Easton helmet?

...that would be unique.

I have to agree... I think that will be their overall marketing point. Their protective line really doesn't feature any innovation or revlutionary design. They stick to the fundamentals but always do them well

Yep, 3 banners all say P.M.S. Pimp My Skates, I was there just two hours ago to pick up my One90s.

I hear there'll be a backstory to the helmet. But for us, it is pure speculation right now. I haven't bothered to ask - maybe they will feed me some info soon.

Just out of curiosity(certainly not asking for you to disclose your source or anyone's information) but does MSH have any, that you know of, higher ups as active members(as far as logging in, not necessarily posting)? I'm just curious as they don't seem to keep up with their own message board; I wonder if they bother paying attention to a REAL message board.

Without certification, I don't see how.

Maybe he means coming out for professional use, because if I remember correctly, pros don't need a HECC or CSA certified helmet.

Actually, when they take out the ear pieces, the helmet is no longer certified until they put them back in...something pros rarely do.

You have got to be kidding me. Easton perfected the practice of naming "features" and promoting them, at least in the hockey marketplace. Focus flex, z-air, etc... I'll see if I can find the picture that I have from the trade show that has all of the logos on the wall.

That said, the helmet will pass certification and sell quite well. It will fit some people and not others. Personally, I think it's ugly but I'm not in the target demographic. I'm hoping that it's something that will lead the manufacturers away from the EPP based designs that everyone else is using.

They don't create accounts - they just lurk.

Maaaaan...I was hoping that the new Easton bucket would be the first Easton thing that I actually liked, no such luck though. For some reason, none of their products are the least bit appealing to me.

I figured if they were gonna make their first attempt at penetrating the helmet market that they'd do something to make themselves stand out. But by the looks of it, it's just an aesthetically modified Intake (as others have said.)

Chadd,

EPP has been the interior helmet standard since the Bauer 5000 broke out in the mid 90s. EPP had been previously used, with great success, in the bicycling industry. It offers lightweight, superior shock dispersal ability, and longer lasting life than previously used interior helmet padding systems. Every helmet introduced after the Bauer 5000 has featured EPP as the focal point of protection. That said, why would manufacturers move away from EPP as a primary point of protection in helmets? What alternative solution do you think is possibly in the future? I have seen the Cascade helmet with its "honeycomb" padding system. We both know there are pros and cons to that system. I don't see a problem with EPP and just wondered why you think its time to move away from EPP.
