Slapshot9123 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 Im just here to vent what happend this weekend. If you have any input or any experiences please post.In the first game of the tourney for my team it was 1-1 halfway through the second. My team just got onto the powerplay so we sent our 1st line out. Off the faceoff we pull it back to the wing and he gets a shot on net, there is a little scrum infront of then net and the winger who shot it fell right by the dot. Hes on the ice and kid from the other team steps right on him, he held his skate on him for a good 5 seconds then let off. This player skates directly to the bench. The kid who stepped on his arm got no penalty. Isaw the whole thing happen so my first reaction was to go in and see if he is alright. His blood was gushing all over the ice and he got up on his own. I told the coach to call an ambulance. The ambulance came and rushed him to the hopsital. So fast forward to yesterday morning, our player who was stepped on showed up for our game showed up to sit on the bench. Turns out his tendon was cut and he goes into surgery tuesday morning. He had videos on his phone, they peeled his skin and had him move his fingers. We saw his tendons moving arround in his arm and everything. It was a pretty gruesome sight. The kids a trooper being up in the hospital till 4 in the morning then driving back an hour and a half back to the rink to get to our game at 10.All in all he is ok and is in pretty good shape. It will be a long time for our team to not have him for 2 months but the important thing is that he will get better. The thing im really pissed about is no penalty being called for this. All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 Wow, thats pretty sad to hear about. Cant imagine what it'd feel like. A similar story happened at hockey camp four years ago up in Minnasota. We have a break in between ice times, kid sitting in very crowded lobby full of skaters with skates on. He's sitting on the floor in the middle just talking with all the fingers spread out on the floor. Some kid walks buy, well you can figure out the rest. Have no clue what happened to him since it was a one week hockey camp and I didnt know the kid.As far as it goes for injuries on my own team. This actually happened two weeks ago on my team. My guy goes into check the guy, some how messes it up, goes into boards funny and breaks is wrist. He layed down and his elbow was bent backwards. Like put your elbow striaght forward so your palm is up, then put 300 lbs on the top of your elbow. Your hand will go straight up. Best I can really describe it. sc37 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 Haven't seen anything deliberate like that before...but our goalie got into an accident like that at a drop-in where he got stepped on. He made a save, and covered the puck and apparently there was a guy in front of him doing one of the whoa, whoa, whoa spin the arm thing and wound up stepping on the goalies arm trying to regain his balance. Got stepped on between his glove and c/a protector. He's got a nice big scar like all the way across his whole arm essentially, looks like it cut 3/4 way thru. #96 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 If you see the kid that did that to your friend, wait for him to go into the parking lot. Then take a stick and crack his skull, but just enough so that he can take camera phone video of the doctors putting metal plates in the spot where you just cracked him. That's how we do things to people like that. Hidious 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 So it was intentional? And you let the game go like that without doing anything? Man, i don't agree with that... Cheap shots aren't cool and i'm not a fan of them but you should have injure, fight, or at least try something to make this asshole understand this was unacceptable. This is one of the roles af a hockey team IMO. I know some will disagree.

And that place is when a kid steps on your friend's arm with a razor sharp blade. To me, that's assault with a deadly weapon, and any kid that thinks it's ok to do something like, deserves to have his skull cracked.
Meathead 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 If I saw anyone inntentionally step on one of my teammates arms I would run him in a second. A couple of years ago one of my teammates got really mad in the locker room and threw his skate on the ground, it bounced off the ground and slit this kids forearm open. All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 I really dont know how there wasnt a brawl or something over it. I know for a fact at the Midget Major AA level kids always wana fight. Always looking for that chance. If someone bumps the goalie with their stick after the whistle, there will be three guys on his ass before he can say a word. If that had happened in any of our games, just like you guys said, there would have been a fight or a crosscheck to the back into the boads.
DamnLocust 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 I wouldn't have let that kid get to the bench. I'd like to think that most of my teammates wouldn't have, either.
Hidious 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 I'm happy to see you guys are playing the same game as i am. I was expecting comments like: "You don't respond to violence by violence" or "Don't be violent, just tell the referee".Cool.

There's a difference between a cross check, and putting a kid in surgery by stepping on his arm while he's on the ice. If it was the NHL the guy would be run out of the league. Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 I've never seen anything horrific on the ice, but one of my friends told us he witnessed something he wished he hadn't.His teammate drove to the net and either lost his balance or was tripped, then flew threw the air trying to avoid the goalie. As he landed, he screamed. My friend said he could immediately see why, because his teammate was writhing on the ice with one foot pointing toward the ceiling and the other foot toward the ice.It definitely was season ending, but I never had the chance to ask my friend how long his teammate was out. Chadd 916 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 A bunch of years ago I had just closed up the pro shop and was waiting for the last game to finish so my buddy(who was driving the Zam that night) and I could go drinking. A guy goes down and someone from the other team tries to jump over him and doesn't make it all the way over him. His skates came down on the back of his leg and did some majopr damage. It has been at least five years and I haven't seen Gary on the ice since. Last time I talked to him, he said there had been too much damage and he still had problems walking. He went into a bath that night and apparently it just filled with blood everywhere. Thankfully, he has full mobility and skating ability now. I don't think he really had any problems with the muscle.I'm sure it didn't feel nice though.

EBondo 232 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 While on skate injuries. Something happened to my friend at a high school game, I wasn't there to see it but his parents and my friend told me about it. He was skating down the wing with the puck and one guy from the other team comes behind him. He punched him in the back of the head, a la Todd Bertuzzi, and then ripped his helmet off. Then he kicked my friend in the back of the head. After that, he gets off the ice, runs to his car, skates on, and drives away. Crazy stuff. My friend ended up just getting stitches, but I forget how many were needed.

Slapshot9123 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 All Thors Team, im a 1st year Minor on the orland park vikings I was going to be pulled up to Majors but our Board wouldnt allow it. Yea i was ready to deck the kid but the most important thing to me at the time was that my teammate got out of there safely. Most of the kids on my team do have a fighting instinct but mostly we were just shocked about what happened. Everytime that kid stepped on the ice after that we ran him everytime. Seriously there whole team got outta that rink as soon as possible. But, no call or anything for this and 2 of the 3 refs saw it clearly. The whole tourny had bad officating but something that brutal should have been called.
tjl_48 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 Last year we were watching a kids game. I don't know what level but they looked like they were 6 or 7. One kid fell down and his glove came off. he went to make a hand pass and you know what happened. They took him to the hospital and put his fingers on ice. I never heard how it ended up. mack 44 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 What the hell did parents do? I'd hopefully not be "one of those parents" but if I saw my kid take a deliberate skate like that I'm poppin' necks. Player(s), coaches, mascots, cheerleaders. Niedermayer, dead.
