Best Player you've played with or against?

One of the coaches in my town's youth program won the cup with Montreal in '93, he's flat-out good at playing hockey.

I played pickup today with Hal Gill, as well as some local ECHL guys and a few OHL players down here for the summer.

You can't imagine how huge Gill is until you see him on skates.

I'm playing on a summer men's league team for the first time this summer. Most recently I arrived at my game and was quite surprised at who showed up to play. I guess it shouldnt surprise me since this players brothers are all on this team as well, but it was funny none the less. The summer hockey rule is if you arent on the roster, you cant play, so obviously this guy was on the roster but he just missed the first 2 games due to some "prior work obligations" lol. In any event, I arrived to the locker room to see that there was an NHLer (as in played 82 games plus the playoffs in 08 ) amongst us. I merely figured he was there to hang out with his fam and bullshit. Mind you, most of the players that play any kind of elite hockey and come back home usually play in the elite summer league here (which this player does). However, there was a bag with his teams' logo on it and he began to suit up lol. Now I'm not the star-struck type, especially since this kids dad used to coach me and was brought to our midget practices to skate back when he was little. Needless to say, we won our game, but our team was pretty good already. I just thought it was pretty funny. I'm not going to name names but i think the guy is a 40+ point rookie though:)

Brandon Dubinsky had 14 goals and 26 assists = 40 points. I met his dad at USA Hockey 2008 National Championships this past April when we hosted the event. Brandon came out to the building during the event. Good people.

i shot on a goalie who played for for poland in U18s at a camp, sick reflexes. next week im going to an elite goalie camp for collegiate and junior goalies. some of the shooters play in the Q, so i'll be the worst player on the ice for sure.

Well done, well done:) His dad asst. coached me for a few years back in the day. They are all pretty good people, easy to get along with, stand up guys. Its cool when guys can come home and kick back and not big-time it, however I can respect when guys dont want to play in lower-level games to avoid injury or just to plain relax in the off-season.

I used to be a social worker, and a new worker came to work on my unit, and I noticed that she graduated from the University of Vermont. I jokingly said "so you probly know Martin St. Louis then?"(because I figured that she didnt know much about hockey, and was a braniac and probly never paid attention to hockey while she was in school lol), but she replied: "Marty?!? Hell yeah, he was a character, he was in some of the same GER classes as me, blah, blah, blah, I heard he plays pro hockey or something now." lol Small world it is.

Played against Kevin Bieksa the other night. This summer league I'm in has tonnes of good players... Corey Locke, a few ECHLer's, retired pros, OHLers, D-1 players.. as well as D-3 players... it gets pretty intense some games.

I've played a charity event with Forsberg and Adam Foote during the lockout, and played open with an old Butch Goring and Ron Duguay. I've also played against Dominic Moore, and when I was a kid I "played" with Adam Graves. I like to name drop.

It amazes me that Butch Goring is not in the hall of fame. But since Glen Anderson got in this year, there's no excuse whatsoever for why Goring isn't in. 4 consecutive Cups, a Conn Smythe, Lady Bing, Bill Masterson, multiple times a runner up for the Selke, coached back to back titles in the IHL, and the list goes on. The arguments I"ve heard is that there are already plenty of dynasty Islanders in the hall. But so freaking what. hall of fame career is deserved of the hall regardless.

A couple summers ago I did the Denver University camp, and they let me stay a little later for the goalie session. Rather than shoot on the goalies, I tried to play keep-away with Paul Stastny. Even then as a freshman, his hands are incredible. and with a wood stick, for sure.

I know this is really pathetic but I scored on Darren Puppa at a promotional thing (with an orange ball) back when I was about 12 or 13, (11-12 yrs ago).

Schremp has amazing skills but always lacked in skating and in his committment. He's spent a lot of time this summer training with other Oilers and NHL'ers in souther CA to beef up and get his body in good condition finally. What was he like to play against?

Hard to make a fair assessment because we were playing on a tiny sheet of ice in a mall. There were flashes of brilliance where you could clearly see he was on another level, but the lack of space really hurt his game. He was never able to get a whole lot of speed or open ice to work with because of the size of the rink. Compared to us, he was a beast as fas as puck possession goes. He was doing the lacrosse stuff in warm ups which was fun to see and dribbled the puck in the air with his stick once during the game and actually made it work by hitting it above a players head and skating around him. Show off.....

I also think its difficult to play in a rec game like that because it is missing the physical element. I imagine its tough to really get into a game when its lacking its usual adrenaline and intensity. All and all I think I expected him to completely dominate, and that was not the case due to the factors I discussed. Can you really blame the guy though? No... he has played at the highest level possible. Compare that to a rec league game inside a shopping mall on a tiny sheet of ice with players nowhere near his ability.

He was playing with Chad Moreau(Ethan's brother) and a few other guys who played wshl and cshl juniors. Supposedly Jarrett Stoll, Kip Brennan, and Ethan will be getting in on a few games this summer while they are down here training. Should be fun.

And just for the record, my team won by 3. B)
