NHL Stick Brands in the NHL

Recommended Posts

Yes, what I'm saying is Easton wouldn't have to pay as many players since a lot go off of their rep from having used them a lot of their life. Someone would be paying for houses if I was in the pros and they wanted me to use CCM or Rbk.

sticks and skates are hotly contested categories for manufacturers. Easton has made alot of money off of their pro exposure and they paid for it. Warrior brought nothing new to sticks and to say that a new marketing campaign had everything to do with it is wrong. Alan Dowling made the rounds for years and many players were aware of Innovative before Warrior came along. New Balance helped bring the money necessary to sign high profile players.

I don't think Warrior pays anyone to use their sticks; I think the big reason was they were quicker about getting customs to players so that turned a lot of people onto them. Players sure as shit aren't using them because of their witty ad campaigns.

I think you are confused.

A statistic that I'd like to see is how many players are paid by company x as opposed to players who aren't. It'd be interesting to read, even though we all can probably guess what the spread sheet would look like.

you want to know how many players are getting paid by mfg x??? it will look something like the list Marcello provided earlier. my comments were not directed to MACK concerning Warrior and their marketing ( many people in general say that it had everything to do with their marketing ). at the end of the day the sad truth is that the companies that spend the most on pro exposure get the business. where this really hurts is that the dealer has to take MUCH SMALLER margins. still confused???

There are threads on guys still using woodies so check there. Sounds about right when compared to names in those threads.

Unfortunately Krev, you'll never get manufacturers to give you a true list of who is getting paid in some way, shape or form.

If NBH or RbK give a 3rd/4th line player a $2500 gift card to one of their factory stores, is that considered getting paid? How about the smaller companies like Eagle or TPS that give players equipment for family, friends, or charity, or, pay for lavish vacations in lieu of hard cash? What if Easton gives a 3rd/4th line player a mountain bike or a stainless steel fridge for using stick/gloves/pants, or Mission gives a player a plasma/LCD TV for wearing their gloves...or was that $5k for the lid? ;)

The bottom line is that more than most get something and more than most get nothing. Make sense? LOL

At least Roenick gave his helmet check to the locker room guys when he was in Philly.

I know, but it's a nice idea to toy with in my head occasionally.

5k to wear an intake? For real? No wonder there were so many guys in it and then out of it the next season.

On a related note, what about the AHL guys that HAVE to wear it in the A....probably not huh? But do they have some sort of incentive to keep THC stuff once they hit the big league?

Couldn't pick a version from back when they were good and on drugs?

Much appreciated. I'll put you on the "nice" part of my "who's naughty or nice" Christmas list. ;)

Why dont the guys in Lowell have to us THC? Just curious...thought it was a league wide thing.

Zach

They didn't want to be part of the deal and there could be some legal problems if the league tried to force them into it. Every other team wanted in on the deal.

As to Warrior paying players to use their sticks, I was told by the national sales manager that last season(2006-2007), the only players they were being payed to use warrior sticks were the guys who have Retail patterns(federov, smyth, kovalev ect...) and Shanahan. Everyone else used the sticks because they liked them enough and warriors turnaround time on custom patterns was quicker than bauer and easton.

Maybe a question for SRI or JR, but I've always wondered how certain pros get chosen for mass retail patterns.

For instance, Alyn McCauley doesn't necessarily seem like a logical choice for a 'name' pro to have a retail pattern available. While Alyn killed in juniors, he's a pro that's flown under the radar and had an underwhelming career.

On another note, Peter Mueller (yotes rook) just switched from RBK to Warrior sticks. It was said that only now he was 'allowed' to switch. Not quite sure what that's all about, but I found it interesting. And as far as Warrior is concerned in general, I really don't know why so many pros are switching, because I find it hard to believe it's the performance, and am guessing they get killer attention from factory reps. TPS sticks, for instance, seem to crush Warrior in the quality and performance department, IMHO, but their factory rep department may suck.

As mentioned before, players are switching to Warrior sticks because of the quick turnaround time on custom patterns. Also, I'm sure that people are switching because other people are doing it as well (everyone is doing it so it must be great).

Also, out of curiosity, who is the single Salming user?

I saw Rikard, who is Salming's international sales manager, in Detroit. He said about 5 or 6 players are using the sticks, although he didn't mention names. Somebody's obviously wrong with their info.

There's a differnce between the number of guys trying them and the number of guys using them.

And some guys are good like that.

I know of an NHL player who was once paid big $$ via brown paper bag, in cold hard CASH!!

Methinks it was probably Tie Domi. My father-in-law works at the Fairmont Paliser in Calgary and he was on a service call to Domi's room while the Maple Leafs were in town. Domi had the cash spread out on the bed and mentioned that he "just got paid by the stick guys."

i think the trainers of each team have a decent say in how many guys use certain sticks. there are clear trends some teams like colorado for example are almost all easton users. last year i noticed a bunch of guys on nashville using TPS, there are other examples out there like this

Some pro reps are better than others as well.

Because if their player/EQM is getting exceptional treatment from the pro rep, getting the other guys to follow suit is a drop in a bucket.

More often, you will find that a team's preference follows that of a team's star.
