Favorite player you miss seeing play

Recommended Posts

Pretty much everyone already said. I would just love to see more of the game from the early 90's and 80's, or back in the days of Gordie Howe.

Yzerman, and definetly Lindros, I love watching ESPN classic and the days of Lindros in the WJHCS, such a powerful and amazing player.

+1 for Mario. He was just unbelievable. I never saw him live, but I really wish I would've had the chance. If I could pick only one superstar to meet, skate with, or grab a beer with, it'd be Mario. IMO, Mario was arguably the best player to ever lace 'em up (when he was healthy anyway).

Gretzky. And I miss the super pests like Esa Tikkanen and Claude Lemieux. Sean Avery couldn't carry those guys jocks but he's supposed to be the best pest in the league right now.

The old Blackhawks with Roenick, Amonte, Chelios, Larmer, Suter, Daze, Eddie, and Nicholls.

And Savard and Smith and Belfour and Weinrich and Jo Jo and a young Keith Carney. I really miss those teams.

Did you get to see Kenny Linseman play? Best pest of all time...

To paraphrase Esa Tikkanen:how many cups he got? I loved the multiple cup with multiple teams guys.

Well, he won one with Tikkanen.....does that count for anything?

I was seven/eight when that team was still together, and I loved them. I couldn't understand why all my favorite players weren't on the team anymore. It was my introduction to the bad side of professional sports.

How does one explain Bill Wirtz and Bob Pulford to a child? Especially considering the fact that most adults couldn't understand them. Those teams were money in the early EA hockey games too. My buddy Mike and I had some epic Ranger - Hawk wars.

I saw Mario live once, when he was still playing with Jagr. Unfortunetly, I couldn't REALLY appreciate it like I would now. Amazingly the Lightning beat them! Even more unfortunetly, I lost the ticket after the game, one of the few tickets I don't still have.

I would have loved to see Gretzky play back when he was with the Oilers.

Late 60s/early 70s-

Bobby Orr- He did not just change the game, he owned the game. First defenceman to lead the league in scoring. Unheard of when he did it.

Bobby Hull- Complete package- awesome speed, world's best slapshot and tough as nails. He feared no one.

Late 70s/early 80s-

Guy LaFleur- The image of Guy streaking down the right wing boards in the Montreal Forum unleashing his deadly slapshot is forever imprinted in my memory.

Mike Bossy- The guy was a pure goal scorer with incredible accuracy. Trottier to Bossy was an automatic goal. Career cut too short by the bad back.

80s/90s-

Gretzky- The best part was watching a player of his talent polish his game into a rock hard diamond of a career that is untouchable. And they said he was too small and couldn't skate fast enough.

Mario- World's best pair of hands ever. He invented the term known as dangle.

I used to love watching Tom Barrasso and Grant Fuhr in net. Their abilities in the crease still have me impressed.

As far as skaters go, I'll go with Bure, Mario, Paul Coffey, and even though I hate the Rangers, Mark Messier.
